It will be interesting, hopefully we come out on the right side as I think the "veil of negativity" would be in full force if we had another draft bust. Simply looking at "types" I think we made the right choice as the skinnier kids find it harder to transition - however we went with this "type" back in the 2003 draft and ended up with Sylvia & McLean. That draft was pretty shallow anyway and Oliver seems to have a far better head on him but I think it shows that unless there is a standout sure thing it is hard to anticipate how well a kid will transition to professional footy.

It's a but different to if he'd done his knee as I assume he is not allowed to have any contact with the club until November? So we lose that time on his training/conditioning, gameplan orientation etc

AFL must ensure they don't get #1 draft pick AFL must rejig the schedule to get them off primetime - Friday games against Port in Adelaide and the Hawks? Thursday night against WCE in Perth and Dreamtime Saturday night against the Tiges. ANZAC Day against the Pies? These will be absolute disasters.

Reimers deserves a full and public apology from that arseclown McVeigh

Contingency plan? I guess Mitch White or another rookie will be upgraded.

The combined Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia Thread
Dr. Gonzo replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
That's great and so are the academies - doesn't explain why some clubs should get priority pick access to them though. -
Whens the new EBA due? I reckon clubs will find some extra coin once that goes through.

I was too young to appreciate him fully - I only remember glimpses of his 87 season but he was still my hero as a little kid and I proudly wore the number 2 on my back as a 4-5 year old. All I really have to go on are those youtube clips and the odd state game I can get my hands on.

He's the only MFC person in my lifetime who has stood up to the AFL and the power clubs of the game and for that I'll always have a spot in my heart for him. He helped make us relevant and refused to let us be the pushover we have so often been.

One of the biggest tragedies of Flower playing in a poor team is the lack of footage of his greatness. You have to consider those highlights packages you refer to were mostly from the 80's and taken from the few games he competed in that were actually televised.

Essendon Changes Clash Strip - what about us?
Dr. Gonzo replied to GoodAsGawn's topic in Melbourne Demons
Our clash strip should either be a red jumper with navy MFC logo (the intertwined letters ala MCC/Carlton) or a red jumper with navy yoke. Our school jumper was red with navy yoke and it looked great. Whoever decided red is a "dark" colour is a nimrod. -
Brayshaw laid a crunching tackle on the broadcast wing just after being bumped heavily by Enright if my memory serves. It was also Enright's 300th game which was another reason the win was so memorable - the fans and Fox commentators turned up expecting a procession and tribute to Enright but we spoiled the party

The combined Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia Thread

There's nothing concrete other than we're after him along with several other clubs. We're in with a chance but that's it at this stage. -
The combined Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia Thread
Dr. Gonzo replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am pretty confident Prestia will be back in Victoria next year however we are one of about 4 clubs chasing him and that will probably grow if the rest are confident he'll leave the Suns. We (and 3-4 other clubs) wanted to catch up with him this year but because he was contracted he told us to come back next year. -
I used to occasionally listen to SEN now I'll only listen to podcasts if it's not my ipod. The vast majority of them are pathetic excuses for radio presenters though you probably won't find much better flicking around the stations. Their bread and butter is the ocker-bogan tradies and retirees and it shows. The only one that is worth listening to is Mark Fine and even then it's only on Sunday nights and can get repetitive and boring too. How the likes of KB, Maher, Gaze, Harford and Allen remain employed is a mystery especially those who remain apologists for their respective clubs and the AFL in general. Ox is OK but as someone said above it depends on his co-host. He was good with Leach and horrible with Allen. As far as "left wing bias" mentioned on the first page, how anyone can see a left wing bias on a dedicated sports station (and one that has hosted Andrew Bolt on more than one occasion to peddle his ignorant views at that) says far more about them and their politics than anyone on the station.

We did take Matthew Bate at 15 previously... -
My son got a backpack with the Little Devils membership (3yo+) and I gotta say the branding is great. The new logo is there but it's also got the Demon mascot which is a huge deal when marketing to kids.

Great report, cheers mate. Any idea whats up with Brayshaw?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
Dr. Gonzo replied to xman97's topic in Melbourne Demons
Seems the biggest query is on his tank which would make sense considering his ankle issues. Get the ankles right then work on his stamina over the next 12-18 months and I've got a good feeling about this kid. The other thing to keep in mind is that he won't be the number one option in our forward line as long as Hogan's around which will give him greater capacity to exploit defenses once he gets his aerobic capacity up and gets more strength and muscle definition. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Dr. Gonzo replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
It was definitely awkward (looked like Gabo's run in keeping with the old school Pies theme) but it was effective. He didn't look like losing control/possession and it came straight back to him. Like Hogan's run up if it works, no need to tinker despite how awkward it looks. -

Not a chance we get round 1 comp for him, we'd be lucky to get any compo for him at all. -

Does/can Weideman pinch hit in the ruck? I'm assuming he's going to have to unless we've earmarked Frost for that role down the track. -

Yeah the clip indicated he would drop his eyes more than Sylvia or Moloney used to.
