Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
Have the club even offered him a contract? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere though to be fair I haven't read through this thread or even read many articles on this I would be shattered to see Viney leave, he's not my favourite but he is a genuine heart and soul player who I thought was single-minded in his desire to see Melbourne be successful. A 2nd generation player and 2nd generation captain of the club who wanted to do what his dad couldn't and bring some success to the club. To have him walk out would be embarrassing and saddening

The biggest con is having to deal with Essendon. Notoriously difficult to deal with although we did get Hibberd and Melksham from them. If he's available get him, it's a no brainer. But I doubt he'll leave Essendon won't let him go.

Jack Gunston
Is Gunston a FA? Surely he's been at the Hawks long enough to qualify for FA. If so I'd grab him and try and get a 2nd rounder for Fritsch. If he's not a FA I wouldn't want to trade more than a 3rd rounder for him.

Lachie Neale Tackle
He didn't sling which is how they'll rationalise not giving him anything. Could be deemed a dangerous tackle though (think Kozzies ones against the Lions earlier this year) and get a fine, honestly it's probably not worthy of anything but no doubt the AFL would look after their favourites especially those in Brownlow / finals contention.

Caroline Wilson on MFC rumblings
Following in Carlton's footsteps. It's funny because Sheedy was a Richmond person before going there. It's a dumb discussion for mine, once you join a club you become part of that club. Sheedy is one example but there are many. Hardwick was an Essendon/Port person until he became Richmond coach. Now he would consider himself as much a Richmond man as he ever was a Bombers or Power man. It's happened throughout the course of the games history, Checker was a Tigers man until he came to Melbourne and helped instill the ruthless Demons culture. Barassi said it best when he went to Carlton, "my heart is where I am right now" (paraphrasing)

Grand Final Eve Public Holiday
What are you talking about? It's just giving us back the holiday Kennett took off us when he got rid of Show Day. It usually falls in the middle of the school holidays which is good for families too who often have to manage 4 weeks leave a year with 12 weeks of school holidays.

Grand Final Eve Public Holiday
There's no public holiday for ANZAC Day next year as it falls on a Sunday

Grand Final Eve Public Holiday
I know there are plenty not working at the moment, but personally I have been smashed since lockdown began as have my team and everyone I work with. No one has been able to take leave since the start of the year (and will be unlikely to take any leave until Christmas) so we are all looking forward to the public holiday for a well earned long weekend.

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs GWS
Don't be stupid UH. You've completely misinterpreted the gist of my original comments about that. I rate you as a poster so not sure why you've descended into sniping at other posters this year. Obviously my point was if the midfield coach (Mathews?) is telling outsiders the players are uncoachable it might actually be his coaching abilities that are the problem, and not the players. That's if the comments are true which I take with a grain of salt.

Proud to Belong, Proud to Give
I reckon we'd be up around $800k had we won the last 2 games. Was it after the Pies or the Saints game Pert said we'd banked around $100k in the week following those wins

Caroline Wilson on MFC rumblings
Because a member of one of the factions is feeding her information to try and destabilise the club? These "factions" are part of the problem and they can get stuffed as far as I'm concerned. I've never voted in MFC board elections because whats the point, I wouldn't know one group from another or what they stand for or what their platform is. Most people would be voting against an incumbent rather than for anyone in particular and as far as I can see the board/Bartlett etc have managed the off field incredibly well. If there are issues with the MCC that is a problem because we need them in our corner but overall the only hiccup has been the 3 year extension for Goodwin but realistically he would have got 2 anyway. They've given the club an environment of stability and resources to be successful, the failure is on the footy department, not the President or board.

Gary Pert on The Deebrief
One thing that struck me about the interview (ok 2 things that are related) was Perts understanding of our history. He said 1) we were the original powerhouse club and 2) we had a history of 100 years of success before the spiralling after 1964 (my words) In regards to 1) that would be heavily disputed as Fitzroy and Collingwood were really the powerhouses of the VFL for the first few decades of the competition. 2) we most certainly did not have 100 years of success. In fact the predominant era of success occurred in a 25 year window when we won 10 flags between 1939-1964. Our VFA record prior to the VFL commencing in 1897 was nothing to write home about either (I think we were recognised as champion 3 times between 1870-1897). If you don't understand the history I'm not sure how successful you will be in righting the ship. Perts ambition seems to be to turn us into a powerhouse which is a fine ambition. But I think we need to aim to be a sustainable boutique team first before building off that into a powerhouse. Consistent years of memberships over 50-55k should be the aim initially, aiming to go straight to 75k is wildly optimistic in my view. As long as we can be financially sustainable free of AFL support that is the main goal initially. We can pull big crowds to marquee games but I don't think we'll ever get 60k vs GWS not in the near future anyway. Getting 35-40k consistently to those types of games should be the aim.
