  1. I get the arguments about too much down time but when the play is in action it is frenetic. All 22 players involved in the play which means the breaks in play allow for replays of different angles to show you different players/positions you would never have picked up on first view. You could break down one play for 5 minutes if you had the time/inclination. To be honest I prefer that to basketball where there is (relatively) constant play but just end to end scoring. Then you get to the last 2 minutes and it can last for 15 minutes or longer due to deliberate fouls/timeouts. I still like basketball but I don't love it like I do the NFL. It feels like you only really need to watch the last 5 minutes of each game. There are too many games which is another issue. 16 game season in the NFL which means pretty much every game counts. NFL also has a majority of its games on a Sunday - for those who only want action you could give Red Zone Channel a try, skips around between the 8-10 games all being played at the same time depending on where the action is/who is about to score. Due to time constraints that's how I watch most of my American football.
  2. Used to think that but I've grown to love it, only sport in the world that can compare to (or best) Aussie rules. It's like chess on grass the tactical game is absorbing. Throw in the physicality and the off-field/ list management aspects and it's got most bases covered in terms of interest from a fans perspective.
  3. Plus you also have to consider the Andy Reid factor. NFL's answer to Ross Lyon, always the bridesmaid.
  4. I just hope they score more than 3 points! (Sorry, too soon? ?)
  5. Donald Trump's USFL Vince McMahon's XFL is making a comeback next week, lasted one year in the year 2001 I've never been to a live game but I agree, the game is made for TV. The thing I love is the investment they've made in their media, NFL Films have been doing their thing for over 59 years and like MCMahon they had the foresight to save every tape ever recorded. The VFL let theirs rot in channels 7s warehouses until they decided it was too expensive to store and sent it to the top and/or taped over it.
  6. Gotta wait another year??? Nah
  7. Yeah same my 6 year old is a 7 year member and 4 year old into his 5th year of membership Poor blokes ?
  8. As a Jets fan I can say supporting the Jets is far more akin to supporting the MFC than the Chiefs. Right down to the same miserable fan base. And my wife is a Geelong and Patriots supporter ☹️
  9. It's the way of the future. NFL teams basically produce their own preseason doco mini-series now and I for one enjoy it. It whets the appetite, of course it's going to have a positive spin - I'm sure no-one in the club is expecting dire results this year. Focus on the positive and deal with the negative if/when it happens
  10. You people need to get some fresh air
  11. It's the shockers that get remembered though and his set shot action is terrible. It's all mental I have no doubt which means it's easy to fix. Those stats don't take into account the out on the fulls either
  12. Hopefully he's spent plenty of time with Stafford over the preseason.
  13. Top 4 and winning one final is a pass mark.
  14. He'd have to have stiff competition for that!
  15. Because the chances of it working smoothly for every game are almost nil. Especially if you're trying to get young kids through the gates at the same time
  16. Just use this year's lanyard? My oldest son got his membership pack the other day but no indication my youngest son's pack has been posted yet.
  17. Maybe there are. But they haven't been implemented or even communicated. So until we are at least told what this might be I will remain sceptical.
  18. It's not the 80s anymore. People shouldn't have to attend the AGM to get an idea of the financial strategy, the club has 50k members now. The communication should be transparent.
  19. I dont think I missed it. Income from pokies may not be the only thing that sees us succeed as a business but the lack of that income could see us fail.
  20. 10% of our revenue when we're already in the bottom rungs of the financial ladder. 10% just to get back to where we were when we were already behind the pack and have minimal assets, no training base etc
  21. Governments rarely give up revenue, what makes you think they'll ban pokies and give up the revenue that flows through from that? A financial model that relies on sustained success is doomed to failure. The only way we could operate that way would be to have so many members they are forced into reserve seat packages at the start of the year which would be extremely difficult given our large home ground, large number of MCC members and low supporters base.
  22. The machines are still there. It's just that instead of the money going toward a football club it is going towards Woolies and Bruce Mathieson.
  23. Yet the AFL still comfortable having a "major betting partner" Talk about hypocrites
