That was the first game I remember attending too. I think I may have gone in 87, not sure - but round 1 1988 against the Tigers is the first game I can remember attending. I remember walking around the bottom level of the old Southern Stand behind the goals while Tony Campbell kicked another goal (I think he had 8 that day)
Besides specific games, my favourite memories are getting ready to go to the footy on a Saturday morning after Vickick (yes it was the 80s!) with my dad, driving to my cousin's house to pick him and my uncle up on the way then dropping past Yaya's for lunch in Fitzroy before heading to the G and sitting in the red seats members section with the MFC faithful.
It's not just the personnel (although that of course helps) it's the structure. Our players have matured and now play to a defensive structure which is the best I've ever seen of a Demons side.
Spargo has definitely been to the Selwood, Hunter, McLean, Mathieson school of head ducking.
I'd say he's even worse than Selwood, Selwood tends to raise the arm/drop the knees when he is being tackled - in recent weeks Spargo seems to pick up the ball and actively look to attack the opposition player with his head and throwing his head back looking for a free.
Still love him though.
Tough on guys and their families with young kids like Lever and TMac (and Viney?)
I don't get why they are so infatuated with WA. Play it in SA, capacity is only a few thousand less (hopefully full capacity by GF), restrictions on players aren't as severe and time difference to east coast is only half an hour instead of 2 hours
