Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...

Because he likes a challenge. Would also play to his ego. I think you're worrying for worrying sake, BB. We'll get there. The tables will turn soon. -

Love Peter Jackson. -
I thought we'd beat the Bombers, but I also thought we'd lose some games this season that we should win and vice versa (see the Geelong win). Unfortunately, this is our situation. We're a young side that is inconsistent and lacks senior leadership. I thought we'd win between 6-8 games this season. We're still very much on track to do that. I think we'll get 7 wins. I get bloody annoyed though on game day and struggle to control my temper, when I see that many of our blokes are making 101 mistakes and generally using the ball like a bunch of unskilled twelve year olds.

I think that's a great post. Completely agree. We've certainly seen individual performances improve, but we still don't play as a team. We don't run for each other, we don't shepherd for each other, we don't kick to the advantage of each other, we don't handball to the advantage of each other. We just focus on our individual games and it is killing the team. -

I actually didn't think it was such a bad move early on. Riewoldt grew into the game and ended up being a large part of the difference between the two sides, but I'm not going to get on the coach's shoulder for that one. Felt we needed McDonald forward this week, but I probably would have made the change in the third quarter. We also didn't start manning up their spare defender until half way through the last quarter. I wonder whether that was simply Jetta doing that of his own purgative or whether he was actually sent there. -

I'm with you though, mate. Frustrated as hell, but agreed with your 'fourthly' paragraph. -

Try week in week out for the last 9 years of rubbish. -
Paul Roos : "At least the players are trying"
Adam The God replied to Fitz Fitzpatrick's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who's to say Goodwin isn't already basically the main man? I know they've said they'll give him more responsibility for the rest of the season, but who's to say that Roos isn't simply covering for Goodwin while he learns? Maybe too conspiratory, but I wouldn't imagine the game plan Roos has outlined would be vastly different from Goodwin's otherwise he wouldn't have chosen him as his successor. Would he? -
Each to their own, mate.
-
Doesn't make him particularly good then, does it?
-
His hospital handballs that consistently put team mates under pressure and his inability to win crucial one-on-ones put a large cross next to him. Think that'll be his last game.
-
Was he number 32? What a little pipsqueak. Little man syndrome in fine force today.

I'd probably rather he comment on the disgraceful decision-making and skill execution, than blame that all on the umpires. We were second to the ball, tackled clumsily and fail to execute basic AFL-level skills. -
Delistings/trades at end of the season
Adam The God replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
We lack senior players. I think that's more of the problem. We haven't had a group that have stayed through and been competitive AFL footballers. They're all retired. The Moloney's and Sylvia's of the world. That's what I believe is really hurting us, but time for Col to move. -
A day's a long time in football. Couldn't be more embarrassed of my club and we managed only 23,000 today (admittedly outside in the rain, rather than Etihad).
-
Poor old PJ. He's done his job. About time a few others started doing the lifting. Very generous, I think, mate. He was truly horrible today, IMO.

Well, it says everything about work rate. We don't have the skills to implement Hawthorn's game plan. -

If that's what was said, that's bloody pathetic. I know he's trying to shelter the players from media scrutiny, but perhaps they bloody need some scrutiny? You can't tell me that the MFC players today tried more or as much as St Kilda. Treat us with a bit of respect. They wanted it more, were ferocious and played smarter. We played dumb, disjointed, individualistic football. -
Agreed. We never bloody do though.
-
Worryingly, we've been getting worse every week since Geelong. We need to snap this emphatically next week.
-
Bad call, mate. Watts was best on ground in the first half. As for Tyson, he had an ordinary final term, but was good before that. Vanders was absolurely hopeless today, as was Garland. Viney doesn't do enough damage with his disposals and Grimes is atill a horrible turn over merchant and shouldn't be there next year. Dawes is done as far as I'm concerned. Harmes wasn't bad though, Brayshaw and Cross tried hard, but everyone else...

Why do we persist in playing the same style irrespective of the weather though? There's no plan B. Instead of taking the first option in the wet, we over possess and we're clearly being told to take the game on, but we're sooooo slow in the midfield, so we continue to get run down or stifled. Viney is the only one who is slightly quick. And we also have a ruckman who doesn't use his superior height and continues to tap to the opposition. Some of these blokes just don't turn up and that's equally at the feet of the coaches too. Richardson, with his inferior list, gets the most out of his team. They tackle hard and work for each other. Our blokes pick and choose when to turn up. We've got a young list that still has a dearth of senior leadership, but our inconsistency is like clockwork. Next week we'll probably come out and beat Collingwood. -

I'm a Roosy fan, but I don't understand why we never man up the opposition's spare man. We manned him up for all of 10 minutes today. Is it so we learn to use the footy better? It's inexplicable otherwise. Roos has still been a blessing and this is a typical post-loss thread. -
This is an utter disgrace. We manufacture ways of turning it over. Easily some of the dumbest footballers in the league. Why the [censored] do the coaching team persist playing over possessive, dry footy in the wet? We do not bring AFL intensity enough. Haven't brought it at all today. Being smashed in the tackle count.

The first quarter was disgraceful, but at least we kept them goalless that second quarter. Our ball use and decision-making has been deplorable though. At this rate, St Kilda will win by a couple of goals.
