  1. His one weakness at the moment is that he never lays tackles. I'd say in the majority of his matches he's failed to lay 1 or more tackles. This is a work rate thing. Gun otherwise. Me too. Has the right attributes. An exciting prospect.
  2. Love Nev. He's tough, reads the play well and is certainly showing great leadership.
  3. Chris Judd wasn't. I'd say he was known to be quite introverted. But generally, I'd say that rule would hold some water.
  4. I agree, mate. If all goes to plan is the operative phrase though. Not everything will go to plan. I'd hope we can get two more wins. At the very least, we should certainly win one more from here on out. If we won three, I'd be over the moon. We're sitting on about a B- for the year so far. Two more wins would get us up to an A- and a third win would mean we'd exceeded expectations and obviously it'd be A+. Really hoping we can break some hoodoos over the next month and a bit.
  5. I wouldn't mind seeing a forwardline of Tommy Mac, Frost, Fitzy and Garland one day. That'd be a very tall and very mobile backline.
  6. I'd agree that H confronts the issue of discrimination head on, which makes the racist element in society uncomfortable. But the booing of him yesterday was purely because he is a former player that left them in no uncertain fashion. They don't boo Dawes because that was years ago. If the booing had occurred towards H in any other match, I would agree it would be motivated by something else. They've always done this. Ever since his debut.
  7. I think it helps that he's now attacking the contest and looking to lay tackles. I'm not convinced Goody would have come out and said that earlier in the year.
  8. Could be. They seemed to get on really well, don't they? I did hear that 3AW interview and I saw two of their celebrations together too.
  9. This is basically where I stand with Dawes. I liked him prior to this year and his intensity and work rate cannot be questioned, but his marking is a real liability at times. Fortunately, yesterday he played a really good role. Ideally, we'd want someone like Dixon, but that's easier said than done. I'd be playing Pedersen ahead of him though, because Pedersen can hit the scoreboard. Actually, not true at all. There was a contest on the left forward flank (in perhaps the second quarter?), where Dawes failed to mark it, then his opponent dropped it and then he got in the way of Garlett, who would have been away with it. Instead, Collingwood whisked it away. He and Tommy Mac will rotate between FB and CHB.
  10. I wonder how much credit Greg Stafford can take for Gawn's improvement and application? Given Spencer's improvement too, I reckon Stafford might be a pretty decent coach. He's a good bloke too, from what I've heard.
  11. Reliable enough, I think. I actually have a couple of connections to him.
  12. Used to coach him. He was an arrogant little dill. If that's it for him, there would have been nicer blokes whose careers have been brought to a shorter end.
  13. I'm told he's on peanuts, and rightly so, as he's never been on the park a full season and until now hasn't grabbed that #1 ruck spot. Apparently, he wants a little more, but will sign with the MFC.
  14. Well, he certainly did that. Was pinged on about 3 or 4 occasions against Collingwood. You might want to watch the replay, mate. My sister and I just finished watching it. We thought he was hopeless live. On the replay, it was confirmed. I counted four effective things he did in the entire match. Most of his disposals put team mates under pressure or simply went backwards, with nothing gained. He'll keep getting games I think, because he didn't get dropped after the St Kilda game. He was even worse this week, but until Salem is available, he'll get games. Howe on the other hand played just about the best game I can recall him playing. He was dominant in the air and really set the tone early.
  15. Just watched the replay and I have an apology to make. Chris Dawes was actually a very solid contributor. He wasn't perfect, but he played a lot better than I gave him credit for. I'm sorry, Chris.
  16. I'm told by a pretty reliable source that he's off them these days. The person who told me used to smoke them with him.
  17. Absolutely crunched him (and too high). It was fantastic. I didn't mind that he gave the freekick away, because at least he made Pendles earn it.
  18. Yeah, I know that speed kills us. I regularly post that...
  19. I was doing so much antagonising in the members. Loved it. Half the people around me were either giving me dirty looks or lip. I just kept saying 'have a good weekend'.
  20. Spot on. Exactly what I saw. He seemed to grow in confidence throughout the game though. I thought it was even more visible at the game that his team mates have no confidence in his ability to take a mark one-on-one. There's no way we played better on QB. We played in two ten minute bursts in that game. People are too seduced by that game. We were hopeless for large patches. Today we put four quarters of effort in, although you could argue we went missing for the first fifteen minutes of the second quarter and that's it. They booed him on QB...
  21. When it was replayed on the scoreboard later on, the announcer said aeroplane dance. Absolutely no way that was an aeroplane dance. Clearly trying to throw water on it, they were. Then on 7 News, they tried to say there was no booing after the celebration. [censored]. They booed him just about every time he touched the ball again after that moment. Anyway, I loved it.
  22. Roos, McCartney and Goodwin. I would suggest, along with Jack himself, that one or all of these men are responsible for his turn in form and his arrival as a player. I'm inclined to suggest it's Brendan McCartney. We are blessed with our current coaching team.
  23. I'm sorry. I don't want to keep bagging players, but Dawes was terrible. Took two contested marks in the last when it was pretty much over. The players look up now and actually look for another option when they see him leading at them. He doesn't take enough marks, impact the contests enough and rjay's right. His man usually gets the ball. I've watched Dawes closely for the past month and have decided we need another KPF. Pedersen is a better player than Dawes, but isn't as aggressive. Neither are consistent foils for Hogan though. With the rest of your post, I agree. It's just about consistency in the contest and learning how to win regularly. Me too. Vanders was a lot better today. Last week he was putrid, but I'll give him one week off. He needs to tidy his disposal and if he does, he's a really exciting prospect. Disagree. If Elliot hadn't been Collingwood's sub, I would have subbed Grimes, but we needed that extra small defender in the last. Incidentally, I was pretty happy with Harmes as the sub. Did his job really well. Impacted. Thought Nev was terrific. Love him as a player nowadays.
