  1. Also, the bigger story there is St Kilda. What a mare. As for us, we've got to keep plugging away, getting better at the transition game, and ball retention. There are likely to be some blips along the way, but if we stay fit, we can definitely get on a run. Our pressure game is a non negotiable every week, otherwise what will be will be with our goalkicking. If the latter clicks, we are going to get our percentage back to a healthy spot.
  2. As you probably know, I've been asking for Viney to play a forward role for 5 years, but they never do it. There's always a chance they start it this week.
  3. I'd have Oliver play Heeney in stoppages and Viney accountable for Warner in stoppage. I wouldn't imagine either would be out and out tags. It'll be interesting to see.
  4. This one's a difficult one too because those half backs get a lot of those short uncontested kicks that pad our their stats. But no doubt having guys that don't repeatedly hand the ball back to the opposition is absolutely gold. I thought we'd been trending upwards in this phase, but IMO we let ourselves down in the first half against Brisbane.
  5. As I said, our forwards alone had 21 shots on goal for a return of 10.11. It's not how we're structuring up that's the problem, it's our finishing. Which I've said multiple times now.
  6. Lots of work from the 22 is required. Too many mids and wingers miss goals, just a forwards do. But Kozzy is a good example. He usually turns 6 scoring shots into 3.3 or 4.2. I just said that.
  7. I actually thought we went at about 40 or 50% of our potential yesterday. Our transition really struggled, we missed too many gettable shots on goal and our ball use from the back, particularly in the first half was very ordinary. The forwardline was looking good to me. It was the finishing that was lacking. Really good movement from our forwards made us very dangerous. Petty 0.2, Kozzy 2.4, Spargo on the full, LIndsay, Trac and Sharp all 0.1. That's a lot of missed opportunities.
  8. It's not so much the forwardline, but goalkicking and our disposal at half back. In the first half we gave them all their scores from unforced errors and turnovers by foot. Take those out and the game wouldn't have been close at all.
  9. Can you please post this in the Time to go Goody thread?
  10. Their ball movement is superb when you don't get up in their faces. Same with Collingwood and Hawthorn. Pressure is the kryptonite to quelling that ball movement. And in the first half, we gave them the majority of their score from turnovers. Eradicate those turnovers, keep winning clearance, bring the pressure and the Premier on their home patch wouldn't be able to score. Same goes for those other teams.
  11. If there's any chance Frederick might be on the out, I'd absolutely target him. Exactly what we need. Keep Kozzy too. Let's pick the bones of Freo.
  12. The elephant in the room is our forwardline looks so much better with Petty, Kozzy, Melksham and Sparrow's pressure - kudos to Tom for reinventing himself tuese last few weeks. He's a great mark, one of our few reliable kicks for goal and very disciplined. You can raffle the next 3 positions, but AJ, Fritta and Spargo were reasonable in the last quarter too. The latter two have to kick their goals though. I'd pull the trigger on JVR to CHB at Casey, because being able to release Turner to the other end could he a bit of a game changer.
  13. Bowey has become elite. What a great game. He missed that target on the wing, otherwise he was superb. Won so many clutch moments. A game high 10 intercept possessions, 5 score involvements and 1 goal assist at 86% DE. A+ Bowser! 👏👏👏
  14. Another PJ appointment. 👏
  15. I didn't say we needed more talent to implement the system. I just said we needed more talent as all teams do... It would be nice to get some generational type father sons though.
  16. We do need more talent, all sides do, but we need players who can kick straight and take their chances forward of centre. That simple IMO.
  17. IMV, AFL has shifted to an elite sport, and with that, the coaching sphere has changed. If you look at the EPL, the manager will bring the philosophy and how they want to play, but it won't be up to the manager to coach it as such. The first team coach will do that. In the AFL, it's the line coaches and strategy coach that works out how to play that way within the framework of the coach's philosophy. Goody has definitely tweaked his philosophy. Everything flows from contest because that's the game, but in possession we have different gears. Either go immediately (we are one of the faster transition teams in the comp) or chip and maintain possession to pull apart the opposition's zonal structure. Our model is not entirely unique to us, we're blending other's styles, but I maintain we want to use our pressure and stoppage strength to give a point of difference. The more good ball users we can get behind the ball and across half forward, the better we'll be. I've compared our new style to the way Slot has changed Liverpool. Klopp, the previous manager, was 100% all the time, think Collingwood. No real variance to their game. Ultimately, if the style can't be implemented it falls on the shoulders of the head coach, but the ability to implement really flows from how good the messaging is across the entire coaching team. With the shifting philosophy, the list has had to shift too. I think we're not that far off, but the guys that are letting us down now are the forwards and mids, and their inability to finish the hard work of the rest of the team.
  18. Possibly, or trading two future 1sts.
  19. I don't know about this...
  20. Kolt's got some time, but it's not looking good IMO. JT definitely nailed both picks last year though.
  21. Me too mate. Give me two Langford's any day. 😍
  22. We never did either. You have to wonder whether there's a reason for it. Maybe it's fitness? Or maybe he's better suited to being a mobile ruck that doubles as a mid once the ball hits the deck.
  23. We've allegedly put another long term deal in front of Kozzy, so let's see how this plays out in the next few weeks.
  24. It's now clearly become a confidence thing as well, because if you see the Casey result today, with a huge number of Melbourne players on the ground, you see it's flowing through the group. I know Ben Brown has a new job, but is it worth getting him down? I know he was there last year, but have him actively coach all the players in their routine. It doesn't mean they have to have a 558 step walk in routine, but use whatever works for them. Clearly the message they have had for the past however many years isn't getting through.
  25. 23 scoring shots to 24. Gross. Alarm bells have to be going off in the FD. Confidence? Fitness? Technique? Where we take the shots from? All of the above?
