# why is it that many players develop interstate, when they can't in Vic... and especially at Melbourne fc. Think about it... the answer is as plain as the nose on your faces. Trouble is... its out of focus, and WE never ever see it, unless we peer into "mirror mirror" on the wall. And buy the way... who is 'the fairest' of them all, Melbourne ? we should know ?

He needs pressure on him... he hasn't had enough, and that is why he's been so content with his cameo outputs. He has slinked past any scrutiny... up until the preseason just gone. This is what destroys our top level young talent. All the softness and adoration applied to them, for nothing more than signing on. Let them be in the background !!! and if they put in short steps, let them know about it. But stop building them up, into a figment of THEIR own imaginations... before they have Earnt any footy respect. We spoil our top talents. This is why Mfc, have failed to develop most of our top line draftees.

Because this is a Petracca thread. Trying to get him to reboot, go back to zero, and rebuild. Some are already wanting to take the shortcut with him already. Shortcuts do not workout this way.

We've been easybeats for the past 2 weeks. It will change quickly. We already started to find some form in individuals at Geelong. Others will follow this trend, and then team belief will start to rise.

Is Inside 50 Dominance now a Strategy to Exploit?
DV8 replied to Lou C. Fur's topic in Melbourne Demons
A rolling press in front of the oppositions ball, might be the way to go. Blocking space for the Oppo' ball carrier. Have to kick thru it, or over, or around it the long way. Risky to take it on. Our half forwards would have to work much harder, to contribute to the press. And then work back again. -

I agree 'Dm'... we were atrocious, and ballsed it all up defensively. IMO because our old defensive structures no longer work, in 2019. -

We were congested around the middle when we had the ball, we couldn't get time and space to send good disposal inside 50, and Weide is very green. this i why I want Keilty in so they can spread the defenders apart. But this depe4nds on us carrying the ball across the centreline mostly so we can choose a target. With (666) this is more feasible, IF we have the run and carry players in the side. IMO, TMc should not play deep... he's always dangerous when he's free-roaming, and he pops up with the opposition un-aware. He too can drag his opponent up the ground to the wing or further, helping to open up our front 50. TMc can turn & burn his opponent, on the way back to F50. That's 3 Talls in F50, all with instructions to spread and create space. So with these 3 talls, I'd like to see Lockhart, Melksham, Hunt to use their pace. So TMC starts at H/Forward-line, leading up thru the middle to Wing and beyond... And Hunt starts from the F/Pocket, doing likewise, leading when we have the ball in our Mids hands. To lead at the ball carrier. If our Mids turnover the ball, then TMc can continue into defence, to help close down the space. Weide and Keilty spread, offering options. And our small-forwards need to feel what the ball carrier is likely to do. Has to be a super mobile forwardline. -

If you can lock the ball inside our F50, then stoppage we can win contested ball and hopefully score. (666) has changed things, and we don't seem to have the numbers to lock it inside F50. Otherwise bomb it in and create stoppage. Its not working for whatever? This week the Cats ran the ball out of our F50 and got thru our midfield (wings mostly, iirc) easily. The game has so far opened up a little, like it was back in Leigh's time around the Lions 3 peat. -
He was unfit last year. He, has Never been super-fit in his career. He was 96 Kgs during the course of 2018. Still is. I don't want us to let him go. instead I want him to lose weight... and get much, much fitter. It's a commitment, for him. # who comes in is beside the point. The coach/selection committee has to make a statement... and Tracca just isn't fit enough to run in the midfield, and has not got the touch nor confidence to do the job in our AFL side. Other players coming in, can add much more run and pace, than he offers. He has to go back, and get his mind and game in order. .

B: WHITE, HUTCHINS, TYNAN HB: J.WAGNER, PETTY, MUNRO C : BAKER, MAYNARD, MCCAFFERY HF: C.WAGNER, T.SMITH, GENT F: BEDFORD, KEILTY, CHANDLER FOLL: PREUSS, STRETCH, SPARGO STRETCH : Had a blinder he was everywhere and kicked 2 goals very close to senior selection. KEILTY : After a good start realitively quiet took some good marks. PETTY : A class above Oscar should be in the side. Done everything right. C.WAGNER : Fantastic game but let's himself down by foot sometimes. J.WAGNER : Really good second half a solid backman. T.SMITH : After a slow start worked into it Pretty well, missed a few shots but kicked 2. SPARGO : Disappointing, slow start got into it a little bit but is a long way from a senior recall. PREUSS : Beat his opponent in Zac Smith but needs to do more around the ground.

Send him to the US on a major fitness camp, asap. For 3 or so weeks. fitness and conditioning. If Only.

anxious ? intimidated ? not tough enough ? This happens when not doing enough work, and taking on many more calories than expended. Put him in the backline, and give responsibility of taking care of an opponent. They will run him ragged trying to expose him. At least he will get some decent workouts. He might even get fitter, and he might even do some good work setting up some plays. Personally I would send him to Casey for at least 3 weeks + ... and play down back there. As he got some fun and confidence back, I would let him run-riot in the midfield, with Casey for a couple of matches. Prior to even considering him again.

and really appeal, Hard.

He's too slow and too heavy... he's not going to develop his tank coming in at 96 + Kgs. He simply does not cover enough game kilometers, to improve fitness. He's heavier than Joel Smith. Joel Smith is 2 inches taller than Tracca, and is 8 Kgs lighter. Joel smith - 6'-3" tall & weighs 88 Kgs Tracca - 6'-1' tall & weighs 96 Kgs Vandenberg - 6'-2" tall & weighs in at 90 Kgs https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/tp-melbourne-demons?year=2019&sby=8 .

Our mids got sucked in too close to our ball winner, on the weekend... flippin' the ball from one to another like a hot potato. Cats couldn't get it off us, but all they had to do was wait outside us, for us to spill it to them... which is what happened in 1st Qtr. Then, they had the space to run the ball for their next disposal forward. We had all our insiders in tight. Allowing them plenty of space outside the contest.
-
It's not wining the contested ball thats the issue... it's quality of the clearance away from the contest that's the biggest issue. And we need receivers in good position so they can run and go with the footy. Delivering well. We're at our best when TMc plays high through the midzone and pushes back into F50. He can turn things into mismatches, taking marks on re-entry. Having Keilty in F50 to take away extra attention on Weide is a good idea. 2 focal points, as long as they don't crowd one another. Keilty can give Gawn a chop-out, allowing Gawn forward for a spell. Again creating problems for the opposition backs. But we need more mosquito fleet... and no Tracca forward to slow us up.
-
And we'll have to trade layers into our list. The draft will take too long. We'll need a running winger. The boy from Freo perhaps ? Langdon?
-
LoL, yes, very good. We are too static and slow up forward with Tracca as a specialist forward. The Oppo' can play a bigger opponent on him and stop him easily. It makes us too predictable up front, and to slow, wherever he is. He has to get fit, a lose Kg's.
-
This, Is what he should be doing... but he's not fit enough to cover enough kilometers. He should be. We need him to be a ruck-rover. He is about the size of what Timmy Watson was Apart from Tracca's weight. That Watson role... is what Tracca is capable of. He's not a half forward. He's not good enough overhead to dominate at half-forward. And too slow at ground level, & on the turn. He needs fitness and running ability or he's a liability.

It stops us from getting into position at the start of play. Add to this our late Prep and we are chasing butt, hence the tackle count. w are playing catch-up footy most of the time. I expect us to improve again for Friday night and hopefully we get away to a better start. The wider wings will be better under the 666 rule that Kardinia Park. But we'll need more run and carriers. Patracca is not a run and carrier. just cameos. So in a sense we are carrying him atmo. Because of this our forwardline isn't functioning well. I would add Spargo and Keilty and another small to the team, drop Tracca... and play TMc high, so he can add to our midfield efforts. using his tank.
-
It's lazy not working diligently enough off season and preseason, to be fit for purpose. If he has nothing left, he is unfit and too heavy. And so, is lazy and not committed enough to be in the right condition. And right headspace. It's all the same cycle. He should be running midfield as R/R. Not a permanent Half-forward. He is not quick or agile enough to be a great Half-Forward. Which brings us straight back to his weight again.

all the hawk styled teams.
-
Its not that they have figured us out. But that the other winning teams have simply adjusted to (666), with run and carry, more offence balanced attitude. We are so far unable to control the flow of the ball, as we did last season. IMO, We'll have to move towards a rolling press in front of the ball, when we defend.
-
we had a 100 tackles... but they had 96 tackles. It wasn't that, it was our lack of organisation, which is why our Defenders were so under the pump. Our defensive structure of last season isn't working, under the (666) rule. They... led us in all important Stats :- Kicks, Handballs, MARKS especially, Scoring shots, Accuracy, Disposals per goal.... https://finalsiren.com/MatchDetails.asp?GameID=8088&Code=dad2001ec2456db43127b0bf0e32dcf5&Sort=Rating Desc
