Healy is gone. He's had a chance and shown nothing. Hughes I would like to think is still a shot but he's been around the club for a long time and not managed to get into the side. Also, isn't his rookie time up? Meesen is gone. Jordie and Spencer I think are both elevations. That leaves us with Newton. I think he's going to be there next year on the off chance that he can show something, whether as a spare forward or back who knows? I'd love to see us use one of those rookie spots on Scott Simpson. He's a big lad with some serious aggression issues. Was on Geelong's list once upon a time and is only 22 or so. I've only seen him play a couple of times but he has size and athleticism to burn and very nearly killed someone in a tackle. Where's the downside?

2010 Player Review - # 19 Addam Maric
RalphiusMaximus replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
He showed some tricks in the Sydney game, but he's not solid. -
THE KASPERSKY CUP SHANGHAI SHOWDOWN
RalphiusMaximus replied to rusty_kingswood's topic in Melbourne Demons
SO are there any stats out there? Footage on youtube? Anything? I know Jurrah kicked 5 but apart from that we're a little short on details from the game. -
3 realistic options for pick 12...
RalphiusMaximus replied to Deemolition Man's topic in Melbourne Demons
Have to agree that any one of them would be a pretty good pickup. There's a good chance they will all be gone before our pick too which shows the sort of quality we're talking about. -
3 realistic options for pick 12...

Lynch is KPF at around the 196cm mark. Darling has played CHF but is only around 190 or 191, so may be a little small to pull it off against the big boys. Not sure about the others. MY preference would be Lynch simply because he fills the need we have. The only reservation is that the talk has been about getting a big bodied stay at home type of forward while he is more of the same being tall and athletic with a big tank. Failing that, Smelds looks pretty good. Sort of a Goddard type who can play anywhere, run the ball, take marks and kick goals as needed. I'm not sold on Darling. As I said, I have doubts about his ability to keep playing as a KPF at his height. Admittedly, players like Fev and Lloyd have been very effective and are only a couple of cm taller, but they are rare freaks and the fact is that players are getting taller. Ten years ago there would have been no questions asked, but now when most of the key forwards being taken are closer to 200 than 190? -
Assistant Coach Replacement for Sean Wellman
RalphiusMaximus replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is a call I really like. Our defence has the players but many people have questioned our structures, in particular on kick outs. A coach who is strong in these areas would be ideal. I wouldn't mind seeing Scott in th e job also, although he was a bit of a thug and I'd hate to see that passed on to the players. -
That's the sort of disaster that can take a decade or more to recover from. In a way I feel sorry for them.

Tom Lynch. Since Smelts won't be there at 32 I'll leave it at that.

The problem here is that every year we have someone shoot up and take over a position when nobody saw them coming. How can you accurately pick a side for the coming season when we're going to see a Straus, Blease, Gysberts or Tapscott burst onto the scene and suddenly be the new gun? At the moment we have so much depth and so many super talented young players I don't think it's possible to pick even half the side accurately.

All the reports I've seen on his suggest he'd be a likely top five if not the no. 1. Absolute value for money. We'll be spending our first round pick on him, but it's totally worth it.
-
I too like it. Obviously you'd want a fairly comprehensive interview process to let the club get an idea of how he would work with our boys and what his thoughts on gameplan are, but he's been a top defender for years and can probably teach them a few tricks. While I can't see anything in Shanahan, I was wondering earlier today if we might not see Ingerson around the club in some capacity. He was well regarded as a defender and is a good friend of Jimmy. As Hird is doing, Stynes is gathering together many of his old clubmates to help at the club. I wonder what the Febeys are doing these days?

Why is everyone so determined to trade Warnock? He really isn't replaceable. As far as I'm concerned trading him would be insane.

Robert Eddy and Jarryn Geary to Melbourne?
RalphiusMaximus replied to Jamie's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why the hell would we want either one? Are they better than the first choice players we have already? Hell no. Are they better than the young players are going to be? Hell no. Why would you get rid of a good quality gorilla keeper for two players who will spend most of their time at Casey and be de-listed in two years? -
Brennan is not worth the two picks mentioned. If Brisbane want to hold out for a top 10 pick then they can watch him go in the PSD.
-
I really wish they'd stop changing rules all the time. It's completely unnecessary. If they feel the need to change anything, they can change some of their "interpretations" on things like head-high contact, incorrect disposal and holding the ball. Perhaps if they were to call them the way they were supposed to there would be less need for pointless rule changes.

I don't see Richmond giving us a second round pick for Maric. They aren't Carlton. I would really prefer to hang onto the lad for another season or two just to see if he can get himself playing the way we hoped he would. I'm said before that I don't think he'll make it as an AFL player, but here and there he's shown glimpses of brilliance. If ha can manage to show more than the odd flash he'll be well worth the spot in our side.

Wellman Resigns after signing new contract
RalphiusMaximus replied to Alf Stewart's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think this is a silly move from Wellman. It's a huge backward step both in his career and in his life. Not only has he left a club with huge prospects for one with major list problems and little chance of a top finish in the near future, but he's gone from being his own man back to being one of Hird's followers. He is reverting to the pattern of his twenties by going back to the lockerroom friends he made in his playing days. Once again he will be spending all of his time with the same people and following the lead of the same guy. I can't see any good coming out of this for him. Sad really. -
He's not bad. Has a pretty good kick but has not shown a lot of ball-winning ability.
-
I think we'll get a nasty surprise from the Suns. I've picked 13-15, but they could easily go better. A lot will depend on who else they can sign from other clubs. At the moment the only thing I can see going against them is the culture of the place. They have taken a bunch of pretty good players many of whom have poor records for on-field discipline and off field behaviour. Add to that a huge bunch of overpayed teenagers and you have a recipe for disaster. They desperately need to recruit a great captain to keep them in line and set an example.

I think Green was very stiff not to be on the bench there. Not so much because he has been the best in one position but because he is a proven performer in a number of positions and has had a dominant year. You can look at the figures and say there are half a dozen forwards who have had a better season, but if they were going for a real team vibe then he would be the ultimate swing-man on the bench and a selection nobody could argue on his own merits. Oddly, I would make almost the same case for Pavlich, who if anything is even stiffer. He plays wherever e is needed and wins his position week in week out, has been in Brownlow talks for most of the year, yet they couldn't find a spot for one of the most versatile and capable players in the league? And Judd? Exactly what has he done this season? He played half a dozen good games at the end to help his team push into the finals, but for the most part he was mediocre. It was a down season for him and he should not have been rewarded for it.

Awesome. I really didn't think the Russian would make it, but really well done to both lads. A great effort.

So nobody actually watched?

So now that there's almost two pages about jumpers on a thread about Cam Schwab on ustream, can we get back on topic and have someone tell us what was discussed aside from clash jumpers?
