  1. We had them last time until the rain hit. Our pace was too much for them to handle. If we get a nice clear day I say we have a good shot at knocking them over. A wet slippery game and they'll destroy us with their stronger midfielders in close.
  2. Seriously, Dunstall doing an Eddy and trying to make this an issue again isn't worth the effort it takes to type the OP. He has no information and Lynch gave him nothing.
  3. Just reliving the moment. I thought it would be a good thing to share with the world. Sadly I'm using some pretty dodgy freeware video software so there's no sound. Still, enjoy.
  4. Awesome. I hate the AFL site. Have to view everything in IE.
  5. I'd have to look it up to be sure, but I think he started having a kick with his high school's old boys (old Xavs maybe?), then played a season with Sandy before we got him. Didn't play until after he left high school.
  6. This reminds me of an article on Col Sylvia a while ago. He said that when he was a bit down about his game Junior phoned him up and told him that he was doing everything right and the on-field performances would come if he just stuck with it. Likewise, Watts did a hell of a lot right today, but the ball just didn't drop for him. Sooner or later it's going to come together and we'll see something special from him.
  7. Yeah. He was a very good choice for the role. He's a good forward, but can play mid or even down back if we have injuries. I think the Swans messed up badly in the way they played it. Surely you need someone versatile to be your sub rather than a specialist?
  8. Best thing about that hit was that Tappy wasn't even shaken. The kid is made of stone.
  9. Funny. That's pretty much how they set up in the last. Worked out pretty well for us.
  10. Yeah, big Stef had a really good game. If he can keep up that sort of form or even improve on it we'll be getting some good value from him.
  11. And still haven't.
  12. I'll also point out one moment of almost brilliance. Bouncing ball on the wing heading for the boundary. A swan player both in front and behind him. Jack tapped it over his head, put in a quick turn and was in the process of leaving them both in his dust, but his tap was slightly misdirected and went over the line. It was a matter of inches and would have been one for the highlight reels.
  13. That was a legendary first game. The kid has Star written all over him. How good was that hit on Shaw?
  14. Funny, I only saw the second half but I saw him involved in damn near everything. Sadly, much of it will go unremarked because it won't appear on the stat's sheet, but he contributed in a huge way. Lots of pack crashing, spoiling, tapping the ball to teammates. That sort of thing. On several occasions he let himself get hit and tapped the ball to advantage. Once again he's had a game with low stats and huge amounts of work. Sooner or later the work will turn into 20+ possessions and a few goals.
  15. Exactly what I was going to say. I'm thrilled we didn't have a loss TBH. They put us under huge pressure at the end and we held them out. Great result. And yes, I think there will be some goal kicking practice this week at training.
  16. Just looking at the stats. 14 disposals and two goals. Not a bad return. He hasn't disgraced himself.
  17. I believe Strauss was named on the extended bench for tomorrow. I doubt if he'll get a run, but it's encouraging for him to be named. Even so, I would have preferred him to have game time with Casey than sitting the weekend out with the senior side.
  18. Why would we want to keep Cheney? Our great Achilles' heal at he moment is our disposal out of defence, and believe me he would only make the problem worse.
  19. We already are a republic. All the republican movement want is to change the header on the official documents. Just ask Britannica.
  20. Agree. We'll see more midfielder/forward pocket roles being played. Run in the midfield for 5 minutes, then five minutes either on the bench or in the pocket. You keep the defensive pressure in your forward line at a peak by having spare mids in the mix and you can keep the rotations high. Sadly, the AFL will twist this into a success because with players being "interchanged" to the pocket rather than the bench, the number of interchanges to the bench will decrease.
  21. Here 'tis I just think it's a really good article on why the AFL needs to pull back and think a little harder before making so many stupid and pointless changes to the rules. Connolly could easily have gone further back to look at the multiple changes to the rucking rules and how they impacted in so many unfortunate ways.
  22. You went to Scotch? You poor thing!
  23. The thing that we must remember, as has been raised, is the new interchange rules. The bombers played a game that was very heavy on running. They created pressure essentially by having their entire team in a third of the ground and then running like hell when they got the turnover. Obviously with 6 interchange and two substitutes this is viable, but can it hold up with three on the bench and only 1 substitute? I expect to see a significant drop in form from them if they continue to play this style, in particular in the second half of matches. We could also see a crippling injury list if they have to push themselves too hard to maintain the game plan.
  24. I won't go for a full team list, but I'd like to see speed, speed and more speed on the park. That's what allowed us to destroy them last year, and while they have a few more quick players on hand this time we should still be able to run rings around them.
