WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DAVID RODAN
RalphiusMaximus replied to Demon Head's topic in Melbourne Demons
If there is no longer a Rookie list, why is there a Rookie draft? -
Just reading this article on the AFL website. If his agent has made overtures to every other club, I suspect that signs are not terribly good for Beamer. Surely if he has real value the clubs should be making offers to him? To me this sounds a lot like they are not getting any bites and are willing to take pretty much any offer they get.

What does Mitch Morton's improvement say?
RalphiusMaximus replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
I suspect it says a lot about how Sydney develop players. Of real interest to me was Morton's little interview where he said that his teammates did't trust him. I seem to recal the same being said of Cale. -
The once only Nudge/Chili rumor round up

You do know that if one of his speculations pans out that will be more than 2% right? -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH
RalphiusMaximus replied to e25's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the club is keeping very close tabs on Billy. He had his internship with us earlier in the year as well. Very good signs. I'll be interested to see how the B&F goes for him this year. -
I live in eternal hope of a finals spot. You never know, we could do a West Coast and go from almost bottom to almost top in one year.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

You can get match reports from the Glenelg U16s here. GF vs Norwood: -
I do mind reading between the lines though. Yes, we can look at this and try to divine their hidden pearls of wisdom, but what I wanted from our coaches was an honest opinion on how the players under their care went. That is something they have not given us. Very poor form.

I fail to see how this quote is in any way relevant to the discussion of his trade value. It doesn't change the fact that he has walked out on the club. It doesn't change the fact that he has stated clearly that he is going to live in Adelaide with his family. How can you see any trade value in a player that the club no longer holds? Liams AFL options are presently at one club, and that is Port. Given that Adelaide has said they don't want him and he has said that he will not live anywhere else, they have no fear of a rival club drafting him, and can happily wait until they want to take him, be it the end of the National Draft, the PSD or the Rookie draft. So, given that Liam is playing at Port or nowhere next season, how is the fact that the club is going to continue to foot his legal bills in any way a factor?

The once only Nudge/Chili rumor round up
RalphiusMaximus replied to Tolstoys Nudge's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks Nudge. This is some real food for thought, even if I would be most upset to see some of it happen. I would guess that any players we target would have the qualities the coaches are looking for to implement their plans, so they would probably fit into the side pretty well regardless of my own or any other fan's reservations. I'm curious what people think we would have to do to get Butcher. He is one I would never have considered as he is contracted and Port seem hell-bent on keeping him. It would be a hell of a coup to lure him to Melbourne I think. -
I was really looking forward to these, but all they are giving us is fluff. If you believe this stuff then our entire list played well and every one of them is going to be huge next year after a big pre-season. Am I the only one feeling let down by the coaches over this?
-
Just finished his first year of Rookiedom. However, I'm pretty sure the Rookie rules were changed a couple of years ago to allow them to be traded up to a spot on another club's main list.
-
Minchington!!! He's a rookie with the Saints, played pretty well in the VFL and will never stop working and trying to improve. He's not in the top tier yet, but I would back him to get there.
-
Lots of opinions and speculation on here. I think I'll add mine. Martin has a lot of value in trade because a lot of people can see his freakish athleticism. He could very well be the poor mans NicNat if given the opportunity and proper coaching. We may even see that happen at Melbourne if he i still there next year. I would not be at all surprised if a number of pretty good clubs are looking at him and speculating. The question is whether we can get enough in trade for him to make it worth letting him go.

Watson FTW.

How did GCS get two sets of votes when we doubled their score?
-
Great tribute th Jim.
-
NN had a pair of 2 vote games in the last few rounds.
-
4-3 to NicNat so far I think.
-
Unimpressed with the montage of best goals. No Bartram or Blease shown. They seem intent on ignoring Melbourne at every turn this year.

Swans and the NRL - we can learn something here
RalphiusMaximus replied to Hatchman's topic in Melbourne Demons
It is, they just don't call it anymore. -
I wouldn't mind getting Byrnes to the club, but I just can't stomach someone called Goldsack.
-
No Stringer?
-
Sounds like it was a hell of a game.
-
Honestly, if Stringer is there at 13, I would love us to grab him. I know he's yet another undersized forward/utility type, but he looks like he could be a phenomenal player. As has been mentioned above, midfield midgets is not really the way to go.
