What They Are Saying at Kardinia Park
Their midfield isn't getting any better this week. Guthrie still out, Dangerfield out, Duncan still recovering from a hamstring strain a few weeks back and Stanley may come in but will be underdone.

PREGAME: Rd 15 vs Geelong
I'd be shocked if they dropped Thommo after his best game for the club. He is perfect for Cameron as he has the elite endurance to go with him Petty how ever you look at it will be underdone. In any case he is more likely to play fwd if he is brought in. And May always takes Hawkins. Can't see why that would change.

The rule used to be that your foot couldn't be in contact wit the bal as it went over the line. If you go back through old footage you will see players poking the ball with their foot and quickly withdrawing it so as not to have the ball connected to their foot as it crossed the line. I'd like to know when this interpretation changed?

Another issue that has been bugging me is commentators piling on Fritsch after he was thumped in the chest with significant pressure, while looking the other way and not prepared for contact - surprise surprise he fell to the ground. Calling him for staging. Pizzes me off big time. Don't thump guys off the ball and especially when they are not looking. Its a free every single time. Not one commentator called them out on it.

Commentators bang on about it because it was a problem 3/4 years ago. And it was talked about often. And most of them are pig ignorant about issues like this. They parrot the same old stuff. The other thing that adds to it is the fact we don't have a Key goal kicker like most other clubs. We have Fritch but McDonald, Petty, Brown etc aren't kicking bags. Its lazy to say we have a connection issue because our scoring shots and results are clear evidence we don't. But if you asked any coach if they would prefer 10 goal kickers in a game or one guy who kicks 10 goals I am pretty sure we know what the answer would be,

PREGAME: Rd 15 vs Geelong
So last year we were comprehensively outcoached by Scott. Geelong had Stanley take the ruck and move back to help the defence. Blix tagged Tracc effectively and every time May kicked to Gawn the left side three Cat players would jump into his back. In addition around the ground they smashed Gawn whenever they could - a bit like Port Adelaide tried to do. So my question to all you strategists out there is what will we do to deal with that or counter that?

They just need to enforce the rules as they are. When you get tackled you have to make an attempt to dispose of the ball. Just because you have one arm held doesn't negate that. I don't think that discriminates against the ball winner too onerously. If the umps blow their whistles quicker you wont have tacklers spinning guys around in 360 degs and ball winners will try to dispose of the ball more quickly But while we are at it. These are just as frustrating: Holding a player while he is trying to get the ball Happens to Clarry and Tracc all the time. Particulalrly in the centre bounces Push in the back? WTF is going on with that Jumping on a players back when he is on the ground? WTF Kicking the ball as its crossing the line. The McCreery decision was terrible. It used to be your foot could not be in contact with the ball as it crossed the line. When did that change? Handballs over the head. How is that a stationary palm as it used to be Front on contact is now paid for the slightest of touches - in some case for no contact at all just getting in the players face as it were - and yet it was brought in to stop people being shirtfronted whilst they were in a vulnerable position Shepherding off the ball. You are allowed to bump a player within 5m of the ball. This is paid randomly - such as Oscar bakers ridiculous decision on the weekend - yet Max was shepherded off the ball every single time the ball went into our 50m. And Collingwood had two shots at goal because of it. Sliding the knees. This was the Adam Goodes rule brought in to stop the dangerous sliding when approaching from the opposite direction - ie when you could break a players legs. Now its paid for anyone going for the ball and the oppo player dives over the top of them. ANB does this quite often to milk a free. Tackles that slip down low and players get tripped. Rarely paid as a trip Most of these rules modifications are designed for TV and faster play - supposedly more goals and more commercial breaks. But the lack of consistency and rule of the week is infuriating. When was the last time a player got pinged for being in the 'protected zone'? Yet you now see it all the time. As for the 'standing the mark rule. The variation in intrpretation is mind boggling. AFL are idiots.
