In 2002, Carlton were fined a record $987,500 and forfeited their priority picks in the National Draft, their first and second round picks in the National Draft for two years and were excluded from the 2003 pre-season draft after an AFL investigation found that they had committed serious and systematic breaches of the salary cap regulations totaling $1.37 million between 1998 and 2001; ruckman Matthew Allan was suspended for five matches and fined $10,000 for accepting undisclosed payments from club officials. Carlton struggled for seven years as it recovered both on and off the field from these significant penalties, finishing no higher than 11th in 2004 and winning their first-ever wooden spoons in 2002, 2005 and 2006. After the draft ban expired, Carlton received a multitude of priority and first round draft picks. In 2012 Adelaide forfeited their first 2 round picks in the 2012 ND (Voluntarily) but were allowed to keep a top 3 pick Brad Couch from the 2011 draft. They also lost their first 2 rounds in the 2013 ND but were allowed to participate in trading AND will still receive compensation for Free Agent losses. The Crows were fined $300,000 and three officials were banned (whatever that means) for between 2 and 6 months. We are used to an inconsistent HQ completely make up the rules as they go along but this is insanity. Carlton and the rest of the competition should be appalled. Carlton was nearly ruined by their penalties. The Crows must be laughing their heads off. $300k is 1 weeks footy department spending. 'Oh naughty crows. Don't do it again.' Missing the 1st 2 rounds of the draft this year is inconsequential after they had already secured Crouch. Missing the first 2 rounds next year while still being able to trade and receive compensation is less painful than a mosquito sting. The Crows have hardly ever had a high pick so its hardly going to bother them HQ must be seriously worried about a legal stoush on the validity of the restraingt of trade that they impose on players. There is simply no other possible conclusion. The AFL joke rolls on.

Why would you do that? Has spent almost his entire career as an attacker. Had a last season switch to the defensive half. I'd say he is versatile and can potentially play both ends. One of Neeld's mantras... Suggest you read the following ... Legs' latest mature-age success

Likely to make an impact in 2013 - We list the 20 draftees set to make the biggest impact next season I know it's the HS but is pleasing to see the Dees get 4 of the top 17 spots... 1. Viney 10 Toumpas 13. Terlich 18. Jones

Mentioned Fisher and Swan but not Dustin Martin. Go figure....... Buckley on radio saying she never rang him and there isn't one direct quote from anyone at COllingwood. Good to see others getting the 'treatment'!!
-
Caro names names. Swan the biggest, then Sam Fisher...... http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/pies-must-tackle-bad-behaviour-20121128-2aef8.html

He has a point. The leniency shown to Jurrah because of his circumstances is difficult at a footy club when the collective rule to behaviour applies. Was never able to stay on the park and found the rigours of a regimented footy life hard to deal with.
-
And you could barely see Morton's .....
-
He has put on a lot of bulk, he has mongrel and his attitude is first class. I agree with you about his footy smarts and skills but the FD must see something about him they like. I guess if you can have a big bloke that competes (which he does) then that is half the battle....

Good report guys thanks.

Do they have turtles in Yuendemu?? Not any more apparently and I know where they went.....
-
The fact that there is even a thread about this says it all. He certainly needs defending on his past two years efforts.
-
Maybe the club are worried that Jamar/Gawn are injury prone and that Spencer may not make it....

Don't tar me with that brush. That's not bagging Martin. I'm on record saying I didn't want Martin to go. I said he could possibly be better than Martin. For the obvious reasons: - he's tall, has a footy brain, plays all over the ground and he's about 6 years younger. Seems like he could be a decent replacement. I think you are trying to bolster your argument by misinterpreting my post.
-
I think it will also subtly reinforce the do it my way or take the highway approach by Neeld. If you want to play AFL this is your shot. Give it your best because its unlikely you will get another. It's actually good for our club that this is happening. Forget the Gen X "oh if I don't like this job I'll just get another". Those days are gone in the AFL.

The end of 'bruise free' football at the MFC
jnrmac replied to Ron Burgundy's topic in Melbourne Demons
The past two years we have had easy draws> Next year is the easiest. Of this years top 8 only Freo is played twice. Possibility of blitzing it if things go right. Gotta start with a win in rd 1 the first since 2005!!!!!! -

Ha ha thought so. The 'just get games into them' didn't quite work though! -
Possibly a better all-rounder than Martin...

Aren't you the bloke that posted in Ology that we only needed to get games into young players and we would be contenders for the flag?? That Stakka bloke?? Sounds familiar.... -
Bingo,. Wasn't it Gys who refused to run a time trial cos it was too hot?????

You clearly haven't watched his past two seasons. Checked out a long time ago.... We all live in hope but there is no evidence to suggest anything is gonna change. -
'Selective' is a better description. They pick what they want to suit their story..... they do it with photos as well. 'Neeld is worried about tanking' and you can be sure there is an accompanying picture of a worried looking Neeld in deep discussion with CS..

I'm loving the training ATM. Ot not all about strength and conditioning but game plan, ball movement, tackling etc. Never did that under Bailey until February. Hence we never won a first round since 2005. Or performed well in the NAB cup. I am hoping we see a turn around in competitiveness but will wait before getting excited.....
