The Kruezer Cup Carlton laid 4 tackles to 3/4 time Travis Johnstone had 43 possessions. Ran around by himself all day

Last time we kicked 8g 18b and won by 4pts. We smashed them but couldn't kick. We absolutely set ourselves for that game and trialled a new game style the week before against Carlton. A very high press not letting the Pies get their overlap running game going and locking the ball in our fwd 50. We then put that back in the memory bank. Go back and watch the two games you will see a marked difference in the way we played. I said at the time its exactly what Geelong did in 2022 when they trialled a new game plan against Melbourne and then parked it till finals because they assumed they would have to beat us to win the flag. The boys will be confident they can beat the pies.

Yze was robbed. Had, i think, the highest ever number of possessions at the time and didn't make it... -
How are the final votes calculated in this award?

What I have come to appreciate is that we have a really good coaching staff that can assess how the other team are playing, make adjustments and communicate those adjustments to our leaders that know what to do. We back our system, are well drilled, have a lot of trust in each other and take away the oppo's strengths. Sydney tried the keepings off game and we managed to shut it down but also punish them the other way. It was a very mature and good performance today. And I am sure I read recently that the pies have been down at 3/4 time in something like 17 of their last 32 matches. SIf that is correct then they aren't that good a team to be in that position are they?

In 2010 we beat Sydney and in 2011 we drew with them In 2001 we beat them in round 5 and round 20

I have said it before but the other teams will be worried about meeting melbourne in finals. We have been to the big dance, we have won a flag, our defence is first class, we have talent to burn, we have multiple weapons and now seem to be able to switch gears or game plans during a match. we are building nicely and will mess with their heads.
-
Unbelievable the number of times that Sydney players just drop the ball when tackled. Clear instruction
-
That would be disgraceful. But normal for the AFL
-
thurs night would be the 12th day and hence he could play i think....
-
So experience counts for nothing in Pro sports? Good for you champ

No other team knows what its like to win a flag. We do. That's a big advantage in the big dance. If we played Richmond in 21 that would have changed the players minds and whether they could win or not. It's called human nature. You may not be familiar with it. And any mental edge we can get we should drive it home. Finals me with teams' heads. Imagine playing the Lions on GF day. We would have an edge

I think it has to be said that no one in the top 8 has won a flag other than Melbourne They would all be worried about meeting Melbourne in the finals. Particularly at the MCG We have an aura that others don't have (well, maybe the Pies at their best)

You said "Mitchell doesn’t have the luxury of a starting midfield of Oliver, Petracca and Viney that Goody has." They played a stopper AND won the stoppages AND clearance so maybe Mitchell doesn't need the luxury of a star packed midfield.
-
Hawthorn won the stoppages and all the clearance stats Just sayin....

It really tires the opposition. And you keep control of the ball. You can't defend that for 4 quarters. I thought our coaching was terrific. Never panicked and the players knew what they have to do. We saw 3 or 4 switches of game plan this match. That bodes well for us.
-
Thought Laurie showed some nice moves. He looked as though he knew it was his last chance to impress and did OK Rivers was outstanding. Coaching moves were really good and i though we played a smart game and never panicked. Kudos to Goodwin

This is rope a dope And we're the dopes

We are guarding grass and their chip kicks are making us defend. But it's hard chasing tail all day. Need to go man on man for a while, control the footy, make them run AND KICK STRAIGHT FFS
-
The hawks will chip and switch. Can't guard grass. Must pressure ball carrier
-
I'm away so haven't watched the game but surely it was lost when we let through 3 stoppage goals at the start of the 4th? It's been a problem all year and we need to work on our defensive stoppages surely?

That missed free to jvr was a disgrace
