Do you want all of our players to leave? Imagine if someone said that to you at your work? You'd be out the door like a shot..

Resilience - MFC Players V MFC Supporters (Merged Thread)
jnrmac replied to baysidedave's topic in Melbourne Demons
You may be right OD but its more about effort. Running, tackling, chasing, harassing etc. These basics aren't about skill. They are about desire and intent. We don't have it and its a coaching issue,. I'd be happy if we went to Freo this week and came back with 120 tackles.Forget the scoreline. Just effort. Now that is unlikely on such a big ground but you get the picture. Effort. Its a non-negotiable. We the fans turn up every week. How about the players turn up?? -
Resilience - MFC Players V MFC Supporters (Merged Thread)

Nah they are just angry at being fed pizzweak excuses week after week. This week is a line in the sand This week we are going to play like maniacs This week we are going to play angry This week we are going to make up for our terrible performance last week This week blah blah blah....... As for their mental state, I thought Tammy Roos was on the payroll teaching them meditation??? WTF has she been teaching them if they can't focus on an outcome and put all the negative supporter 'vibes' out of their mind???? Its actually pretty pathetic that Roos blames supporters for being negative. FFS can't get mad at the players and have these Gen X/Y/Zs get upset because someone yelled at them or demanded improvement. -

So why didn't they play like 'maniacs' last week like Roos said they would? Roos clearly hasn't worked out yet how to make them angry and then direct that anger at the opposition. Non-negotiable 4 tackle minimum from each player. FFS its only 1 a quarter. Gang tackles. Rub their faces in the dirt kind of angry. Wouldn't have thought this bunch of pea hearts has it in them.... -

Oh fine we'll let them all off the hook becasue they are buggered. Poor lambs. What a crock. And its attutudes like this that lets them think its OK. Attitudes that say 'Oh we are only expected to win 7 games this year. We must be doing OK'. Imagine Clarkson saying that. He would be frothing at the mouth. But Roos (and probably you) just want to take the poor lambs to the movies to get their mind off things for a little while... -

Effort. And commitment. When the players don't bring it 3 weeks running in the 1st qtr, its the coach who hasn't recognised the problem and/or who hasn't been able to anything about it. -

It is also distracting him from his real job. -

Roos knows the problem. He knows who isn't running from the GPS and his own observation. He knows who isn't playing to his game plan. He knows who can't win his own ball. He knows who is playing 'individual' rather than 'team based' football He knows who goes missing when the heat is on He knows who hangs their head rather than dig in like Daniel Cross and NJones But he: a) doesn't know how to fix it; or b) can't fix it mid season because of a lack of players to replace them with a) is much more worrying and Roos' public comments are a big concern for mine. How do we play like crap for weeks in 1st quarters after he publicly comes out saying we need to play like maniacs? He looks genuinely flummoxed about what to do. b) is quite possible. You can't throw out the whole team. You have to back the players in to do a job and then get rid of them at season end if they repeatedly show can't do the job. He can cut players he doesn't think can do the job. Eg he has clearly ruled the line through Jamar and McKenzie. Players like Watts he peseveres with because he has talent and he is backing his ability to bring that talent out. Wholesale culling is simply not possible the way the draft is arranged. So its a balance and he has shown in the past two drafts he gets this aspect of it. There aren't A grade mids waiting to join Melbourne and this is the biggest worry for for me. We can't get an elite mid to the club. The sales pitch doesn't work at melbourne because we are such crap. Roos knows that not everyone is a star and that we need team role players. That is his hallmark as a coach. But he can't find them here at Melbourne. I think Roos is astounded by the lack of on-field leadership ( I know I am). I dont think he has ever seen that before. Even in his playing days at FItzroy he had guys who led and won their positions. We have a bunch of players that don't seem capable of winning their position or winning their own ball. I hope Goodwin can coach because we are in for a world of more pain if he can't. -

5 Clarkson protoge's are now FT coaching. They have a good track record. maybe Lloyd is right when he says Roos' plan is outdated.. -
The game on he weekend got me thinking about the RS. The media were happy to play it up as a Hogan vs Cripps showdown which frankly was a pretty pathetic attempt to generate news copy. And yes it was the only time Hogan has been held goal-less this year but doesn't that itself show how amazing Jesse's year has been? I mean, he has played on all of the games best defenders including rag-dolling Rance for an entire game and still kicked at least a goal every game bar one. There is no doubt Cripps is a good player already and frankly I could really care less about the RS but I still reckon Hogan should get it.

Garry was the guy that got neeld. Took Mick's word for it that he was ready to go.

AGree. Gardner is a complete flo.g who only appears when there is trouble and he is happy to throw in a disparaging comment or two. Having said, the article is perfectly fair and I am surprised that PG's comments were unusually reasonable. Can't really argue at all with what he said. But he should keep his trap shut. Nothing worse than an ex-president. Particularly Kennet.

So you have gone off your love child Garland? Geez you're fickle. At least have the courage of your convictions. You were happy to pot anyone last week that said he was giving us no value. What a goose.
-
Its simple. You have to pay the money. you don't have a choice. We are just getting crap value
-
I predict a record low crowd for the MFC. Shame its our home game but then the players are killing this club. When they play to an empty stadium they might get the msg. Nah they will just collect their fat pay cheques and head off on their end of season trip. Pina colada here we come.

They can have Dawes..... Seriously are we trying to get a bunch of decent mids????

The 'veil of negativity' is there allright. But whats causing it ? It's constantly being thumped because we don't turn up to play. Roos doesn't know what to to do. He tells where they went wrong. They have lots of meetings about how to fix it and he then expects players to go out and do it. He seems genuinely shocked when they don't. He clearly needed no motivation as a player and didn't need 'revving up'. When he was at the Swans he had plenty of leadership around the club. There was plenty of self motivation, pride and team ethic. The world has changed with young players clearly needing a rev up, melbourne clearly lacking leadership, pride, motivation and team ethic. To blame a veil of negativity is actually a real cop out from the consultant. He identified before he got here. He said when he came here that the players needed a hug. He understood that they had been battered by all and sundry and his way forward was to cotton wool them. Well that's fine to a certain extent at the beginning but 2 yrs down the track to actually be sitting there and not knowing WTF is going on in the heads of his players is a damning indictment on his coaching skills. And then to say he gets upset at supporters questioning his commitment? Well supporters are pretty frustrated Paul. We can't really see a game plan, our best seems OK to win a few games against the middle teams but I would suggest there is more passion in the supporters than there is in your players. Despite being repeatedly smacked in the head by this club we turn up every week with optimism and hope. This team has killed that. So yeah, we are pretty unhappy. And we are even more unhappy when our coach doesn't know what to do about it. Because he is the guy that should. -

There's not much to be positive about. -
Sorry to hear that, Make sure you claim on the club's insurance, if not the ground management for leaving a pothole on the ground,

Sadly we have to take what we can get. There isn't a queue of eligible players waiting to join the Dees...... -
Its not running out games. Its starting them. We have been pole-axed by 135pts to 22pts in the last 3 first quarters.
