  1. Shane Woewodin is a prime example of it working in our favour. Daniel Hughes got on the list this way from memory. Dean Terlich did some pre-seasons with Port Adelaide. They come out post national draft, so its just a way for the club's to get a better feel for the borderline players/give them an opportunity and also a lot of delisted players stay with their clubs for pre-season if they have had injury problems et cetera, trying to stick around. Clancee Pearce is an example of that. I'd be very surprised if covert game-planning secrets were compromised and the like. There is only a 6-day gap between the two draft days this year anyway. Re: Hannath. Hard one. Perhaps our keenness for him developed in the time he trained with us. Inconceivable if they liked him that much, they would expose the possibility of other clubs getting him.
  2. Bahahahaha I've actually seen Barrass play live a dozen times - he's a completely different type of key back to Gibson and if he nominates for the draft he should go top 40, so badging him as a rookie is wide of the mark, notwithstanding he profiles physically and athletically completely different to Gibson. Pongracic is what some recruiters call a wombat - stocky, slow, insidish, without the range or X factor in his game that's desirable to Afl clubs. My report on Barrass' teammate Steve Edwards is above and he is a quality player who could be special if he wants to be and has the question marks that may see him slide below the draft spot his talent warrants. I like Guy Page from Sturt - a small quick back pocket, but he may be too small and doesn't do enough probably. Todd McKay is another I don't mind - hard at it midfielder from South Adelaide. But they're both very outside chances to get picked up.
  3. Kid will be a star if he applies himself.
  4. Tom Barrass is nothing like Josh Gibson. Pongracic is a wombat, not good enough.
  5. We only have two players - Jamar and Byrnes - on the list born before 1988 so from an experience point of view and looking at the list dynamic, it makes sense to get some 27-28 year olds in. I personally love him as a player, purely because he is a fantastic two-sided kick. As a club, we haven't had that kind of precision very often and he'll be useful setting up across half-back and kicking long goals. The concern is he has become inconsistent and in and out of games more these last couple of years. If he can find his best form and be in the 25 possession per game level, he will be our best midfielder by a mile. Because he is such a good kick other teams will have to put time into him which will help Jones and Watts and co as well. Ideally you want to have high picks, but I think Vince will play 5 years. He was an old draft pick (20yo) and only played a handful of Sanfl games so you've got to believe he has four years in him at worst and at least three of them in his prime. I don't think it's a great trade in terms of value necessarily but it's certainly not a bad one, but I fully expect Vince to be one of our best players for three years at least for what that is worth. If he finds his best high workrate/possession winning form, he will be one of the best players we have had at the club for quite a while.
  6. And why didn't they complain when the compensation band framework was installed and not just when they are involved
  7. Correct, forgot about Hogan. Well they dont have to use pick 70, they could keep Clisby on the RL
  8. Michie, Vince, Bugg, Buntine plus pick 9, pick 21 (sylvia compo), 38 and 70 (or a rookie compensation). Seems quite balanced.
  9. For a start, Vince is a very good footballer and Michie is an unproven one who may be good enough. The likelihood is there is not the huge variance in talent between pick 2 and 9 in this draft as there has been in some other drafts. That fact is probably the fulcrum upon which the club's desire to trade it swings. Draft pick numbers mean nothing. We have the rights to Kelly (most likely) or Aish and we'll be trading those rights for Buntine (who is a very similar player to Jack Grimes and has been on a similar trajectory), Bugg (who long-term could be our quaterback out of defence and is comfortably a good, albeit extremely homesick player) and for the rights to Kolodjashnij or maybe Freeman if we're lucky. I don't think you can make your argument unless you've got good confidence Kelly is a jet and that those who are in the mix at 9 aren't. Buntine and Bugg will give us one of the deepest and most talented defences in the competition. Michie and Vince will bolster the midfield, along with the move of Watts and organic improvement form our inexperienced players. And we've still got Pick 9, Sylvia compo and 38 to play with. Your playing the Pick 2 will be a guaranteed star card, whereas I think the proposed deal gives us a wider spread of talent, an instant infusion and possibilities to still unearth some stars, of whom I wouldn't write off Buntine or Bugg being very good players.
  10. In the absence of a better deal, Josh Mahoney should be shot if Pick 9, Buntine and Bugg for Pick 2 is rejected.
  11. Well, the information would be the genesis of new threads and substantial conjecture and as I'm a Melbourne supporter it would be pretty easy to guess that I've either told someone or come on here, given it isn't mentioned here. Aside from that I promised not to mention the player's name. I merely mentioned the info as a counter to the info that it is either Shiel or pick 2. The club has other irons in the fire re pick 2. I don't think we will get there player anyway. Similar to Shiel, I don't think his club will let him go whilst contracted, even if he wants to move.
  12. I'm sure he or she is wonderful contributor and as I said, us keeping pick 2 and or receiving Shiel are possible scenarios. Logic will tell you that with two weeks of trade period left, the club won't have shut the door to other possibilities, irrespective of any info I have.
  13. I have spoken to people with more clout than coterie members. I'm not saying we won't keep pick 2 and I'm not saying Dylan Shiel won't necessarily come to the Dees. But I know the club is looking at other avenues and has offered pick 2 directly for another player which hasn't been resolved yet and the player hasn't been mentioned in dispatches anywhere. Now Im not going to say who the player is because Im not going to betray the source of my information - and the likehlihood of his club letting him go is extremely remote, in any case - am merely saying that your contention of it being Shiel or the pick kept is 100% incorrect!
  14. Remember that as we hopefully get better the shutting down of opposition players becomes more important. It's to no great use shutting down Pendlebury and losing by 70pts, but in a tight game it's of paramount importance. Personally I rate McKenzie as a very good role player. He's of no great value with the ball in open space, but otherwise he does his job - he needs to be more crisp with his ball use.
  15. To a 100% certainty I know the second half of this to be untrue
  16. Tent Croad was a part of that deal and other picks as well. Wasnt a swap of McPharlin for Pick 1. McPharlin was the makeweight in that deal at the time.
  17. Look out for peter bampton if he plays - one for next year
  18. Except for Brisbane who get raped
  19. Jaensch is a small defender with good kicking skills - is a retrained forward a la Terlich
  20. Craig Cameron recruited Morton not Prendergast and Dangerfield didn't have an amazing year with the Falcons pre-draft, his kicking was highly questionable for example. His season (2008) with the Falcons whilst on Adelaide's list was particularly good without being considered amazing either. Most of the recruiting and decision-making done by other clubs before getting priority picks hasn't been very good either. The most salient argument for us not getting the pick is that we effectively inhibited our own performance this year by recruiting a stashaway player in Hogan. Had we used pick 3 and 13 on players able to play in 2013 then we may have won three or four more games. They are correct in saying that our list is better prepared than our results indicate.
  21. First time in a long time, in the aftermath of a game, that I've we've been well coached strategically. And what McKenzie has been doing languishing at Casey and playing as a defensive wingman, for god's sake, is anyone's guess.
  22. Hes obvioulsy our standby player on saturday so cant play Casey firsts and is playing two. That lineup is misleading, no way Tom Corry plays CHB or Matthews FF either
  23. There is no real comparison for Wines in this draft for bodytype and overall ability. Dominic Sheed is a completely different player but he has the desired centre square contested ball winning capabilities plus he has a reasonable outside game and can be effective as a forward. The added bonus with him is that he is a left footer. The other player close is Nathan Freeman, a strong bodied bull with decent skill level and the ability to run and carry. He is a poor man's Patrick Dangerfield. As I said there are no real Wines types and historically they aren't generally highly desired as they tend to dominate junior levels because of their strength advantage and then can come back to the field once they get into the AFL system.
