Cue the Remy Jones thread. I'm sure the Billy Stretch thread had started by now and Jack Viney had already signed. Congrats Jones family!

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Nasher replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
This guy has GOT to be chiliboy/Nudge, surely. -
Regarding the now deleted comments; playing at AFL level, or even having any talent whatsoever is not a prerequisite for posting football related opinions on Demonland. The day it becomes a prerequisite is the day I hand the keys in since I'm in the "none whatsoever" category.

5 games, out of a possible 8. I'd put that in the realms of "by a lot" when the forecast was zero. He was closer to playing every game than never playing again. It was clearly a dumb call at the time and has proven to be so in time. Moot point now, obviously.

In the box instead of on the bench, then. Otherwise, black box position as before, as far as us mugs go

I've got to admit I've got no idea how these people fill their days at work anyway. All I know is that it matters that our players are properly developed and we've added a highly rated younger resource; since Macca is still on board I'll just assume the new structure is an improvement on what we had and be happy.

Yes, it means no compensation. Wouldn't have got any anyway most likely as I doubt Grimes will be on a very big contract if he gets picked up - very long shot anyway IMO. Unless you were worried about compo for Terls :-)

Surprised to see Jones go in the first pass. I thought he had a case for one more season, and probably would have played games next season, but I guess that's (rightly) not where the bar is set. No surprises with Grimes, but it still gives me a stab of grief now that it's official. A player who gave his all the MFC during the toughest of times. I hope the note he leaves on is not too sour and he can continue to be a Melbourne man after footy. Thanks to all three for their contributions.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - TIM SMITH
Nasher replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I get the logic and the love, but was just amused by "shocked". I wouldn't be at all shocked, players like this, especially at his age, are overlooked *all the time*. Personally I'll be surprised if he is drafted - as a general pattern, clubs won't use a place on their list on undersized, most goal output forwards. -

Some people are easily shocked. -
Nah me either, but if I had the lotto numbers in advance as you seem to, I'd consider starting :-p

Dangerfield can't not win, tore us a new one in round 23 and surely will get 3 for that.

How much did you wager mate?

Trying to stay awake to see our votes against Hawthorn. God, this is *so* boring.

VFL GRAND FINAL - CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS
Nasher replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
What were the attendances like for Footscray games during the year compared to Casey? -
lol. jcb at the time had a massive thing for first generation Australian players. Daw, Temel, Jong. Years later, you can bump one of the threads and it makes him look like a visionary. I remember at the time reading this thread, laughing, thinking "here we go again". I suppose he was bound to get one right eventually.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN KENNEDY
Nasher replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
The 'counterfactual' is not Melbourne still having Howe, so how Howe went at Collingwood is irrelevant. He was gone regardless. -
VFL GRAND FINAL - CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS
Nasher replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't care about Casey either per se, but I do care about the players who have busted their arses all year, several of whom have given a lot to the MFC over the years. They deserve this reward for effort and I really hope they get it. If you have little or no vested interest in this game, I'm not sure why you're in this thread raining on everyone else's parade. -
VFL GRAND FINAL - CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS
Nasher replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Isn't it stating the obvious to say the players who have been in the VFL all year might not be AFL grade? It's our 23rd-44th ranked players playing in this game. I'm not sure what people are expecting. -

Brayshaw, Petracca, Salem etc? Most of our young talent is already in the seniors. I suppose you mean in the context of those playing in this game, although I didn't read it that way. -

It had to be unequal unless the AFL wanted to create a team that was uncompetitive for a decade. Even with the concessions, they wouldn't be where they are without being well-run, though, and that's what everyone is envious about.

Don't think those GWS boys were thinking "oh well, we're just a franchise". Brisbane, Adelaide and West Coast were all clubs created out of thin air in the same way GWS and GCS were, but I don't see anyone wailing about the success they've had. The vitriol towards GWS is based on nothing but envy and I reckon it's childish.
