  1. A lot of premature speculation early in this thread.
  2. Yes, but since Essendon last won a final, we've won 7 and a premiership.
  3. Drugs like cocaine and ketamine are far more dangerous when taken with alcohol. I think it would be a fair assumption that since Ginnivan was at the Torquay hotel, he wasn't just drinking lemonade. In relation to drug use among footballers, I think we have to be careful not to make an assumption, based on a Twitter comment, that "everyone is taking it" and they are somehow different to the rest of society. The rate of cannabis taking among the general population is estimated around 12%, but hard drugs like cocaine, ecstasy and meth/amphetamine are less than 3%. There's no evidence to say footballers would be well above those figures. The fact they are young men would increase the likelihood, but they are also professional sportspeople with excellent resources and objectives and that would diminish it. https://www.aihw.gov.au/reports/illicit-use-of-drugs/illicit-drug-use
  4. Yeah, so ketamine is a whole lot better ... https://adf.org.au/drug-facts/ketamine/
  5. Arguments about the legality of drugs are one thing, and there are good reason for decriminalisation. But getting back to Ginnivan as a footballer and member of a football club ... snorting cocaine, especially over the long term, may cause anything from damage to nasal passages through to depression and heart problems. At the extreme end an overdose can cause seizures, stroke or cardiac arrest leading to death. Regular use can cause poor mental function. Coming down from taking it may cause irritability, paranoia, mood swings and exhaustion. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/cocaine Why would any football club interested in the welfare and performance of their professional footballers and the team want to turn a blind eye to that? Is just recreational use once in a while or in the off-season acceptable, or should they only accept "never"? That's aside from any issues to do with footballers being public role models, or examplars and influences to their team mates. Ginnivan did make his own choice, "raw deal" or not. You could argue 4 matches is comparatively weak.
  6. Not a millionaire any more ... and banned from being a director. Former AFL player handed $1m fine, ban as GetSwift hit with penalties Former AFL player Joel Macdonald has been ordered to pay $1 million and will be disqualified from managing corporations for 12 years, as the Federal Court handed logistics provider GetSwift the largest-ever penalty for breaching continuous disclosure laws. Macdonald, a former Melbourne Demons player, was previously director of the last-mile logistics company, which became a market darling during Australia’s golden era for tech stocks ... ... Justice Michael Lee found Macdonald was focused on making money, with “little understanding or regard for his legal obligations as a director”.
  7. isn't the question about Rookies?
  8. 'Tracking the right way’: Demons confident of Pickett deal
  9. If I were pedantic, I'd say there were 7 over 200cm, 12 over 195cm and 18 over 190cm. 😄
  10. Go back to the beginning in 1865 and Albert Park would have two premierships.
  11. Why does this review think we'll lose to Richmond in Round 6 (Anzac Eve)?
  12. It's not soccer per se. Billions of the world's population like it and follow it. I don't quite get it either, but that's not a reason to dismiss it. The situation the other night was some angry testosterone-driven males protesting about something they didn't like (shifting finals to Sydney) and resorting to violence. Whether soccer promotes that is a good question, as it has a history. As a society I just think we are becoming angrier about things we don't like. Read the newspapers or media and there are constant stories about anger. They promote it for click bait. The fact there's even a political party named the Angry Victorians is a good indication of where we are heading. The world needs a chill pill. Or a genetic program to remove the aggressive gene. Or let women run the world for the next hundred years.
  13. Was the 2-2 goal scoreline in the AFLW GF "boredom"?
  14. Put us down for the next 6 premierships at this rate. 😊
  15. Let's hope you ain't seen nothin' yet.
  16. How to rank the draft: Give every club that had a top 5 pick an A or A+ Give the clubs with picks 6-10 an A or B+ Give clubs with picks in the remaining first round a B or a C+ Give the clubs with picks 20-40 a C+ or C. All the rest give a D Easy.
  17. Blaithin Mackin: Armagh player helps Demons win Women's Australian Rules title Blaithin Mackin making waves Down Under as Melbourne Demons tackles Brisbane Lions in AFLW Grand Final Glory for Irish duo as Blaithin Mackin and Sinead Goldrick win AFLW title with Melbourne Demons
  18. Apart from the capacity, the ground looked perfectly suitable for a match. Even the length wasn't that short, probably some metres longer than the SCG.
  19. I didn't think the venue looked anywhere near as bad as some people here made out.
  20. The PGA golf in Brisbane has just been suspended due to an incoming electrical storm.
  21. Probably the Demons have a very even spread of talent, whereas some sides have a very dominant player or two e.g. Conti, Kearney. Champion teams and all that.
