It just goes to show how data can be manipulated to be whatever you want it to be. In saying that it does highlight while we have an exciting young list the reality is we haven't achieved anything yet. For me I know a guy like Salem is close to elite IMO but the reality is he hasn't played many games at all nor has he built consistency. So there is some value in the data, it's just about how you process it

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
Cheap Seats replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
I know this is stating the obvious but, Regardless of the Pro EFC chest beating and investigation into ASADa it doesn't change the facts Easendon don't have records what they injected players with nor the fact ASADAs investigation was found legal in the high or supreme court (sorry for my ignorance) nor the fact they were found guilty in the swiss high court. Just sour grapes and im enjoying it. Personally im still waiting for james horss truth to come out that will prove essendon innocent...... -
The Should Jack Watts Play Round 1 Poll

Toughest midfield in the AFL - David King
Cheap Seats replied to Bobby Clark's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think its the first steve I beleve Kingy and the champion data have the dees midfield ranked last in their comparisons. But mind u it was based on prior years not speculating about 2017 -
I strongly considered Viney in that group. But as we know Viney is a freak and i put him with the experienced campaigners now like tyson watts etc The boys abover are still boys. Whixh is what makes them so exciting
-
That core group of Petracca, Salem, Brayshaw, Oliver, Hogan, Weed, Hunt, Stretch, neal Bullen and even Kennedy Harris is such an exciting group of youngsters. The most exciting thing is these boys haven't even hit their peak ages yet.....
-
It's aa credit to T VIney and his team how they have shaped this list where a bloke this talented can go under the radar. Times have changed for the better, where even if he doesn't come on to be an outright superstar it doesn't matter anymore. We want solid contributors each week not one or two game winners

The Should Jack Watts Play Round 1 Poll
Cheap Seats replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Spot on. The thing I like about us at the moment is there is no guarantee of a game. Players need to earn their spots I wouldn't give Jack a game until he earns it. Could be round 1 or 5 or 20. I don't care as long as we are winning games -

JLT Round 2 vs. Carlton at Casey Fields
Cheap Seats replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ummm? I think we're a good chance of winning the first 7. But reality says rd1 and typical Melbourne will drop a couple we should win.... So i was simply asking would we prefer to rid the stk& etihad hoodoo and possibly drop a few clise ones or if we happen to get done round 1 (which is very possible) go on a run and beat cats at etihad and smash the blues. .. Just a thought and discussion. We're not Hawthorn. We are going to drop some games this year thats the reality.... not being negative. I'm excited for 2017 and watching this team development -
JLT Round 2 vs. Carlton at Casey Fields
Cheap Seats replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
What are posters preferences Beat the Aints rd 1 or Lose rd 1 and win the next 4 or 5??? Haha I am excited for this year, it's going to be HUGE -
I could be wrong, I wasn't paying close attention but Ben Dixon interviewed Tyson at the game... Tyson said he was aiming to be back for the next game. So will be interesting to see how he goes. I've got a feeling we'll have a practice match this week which could be Huge for Watts and a few others to attempt to make the rd 1 side. My gut feeling is though they won't make too many changes to build some team chemistry... so boys are going to have to work hard to break in to the side..... which that is absolutely sensational. Since when have we seen that at the Dees??? I 'think we will see a lot of consistency this year and not mass changes. Team selection is going to be very interesting to see if Goody gives a few a run or goes with chemistry for round 1. And the team we play couldn't be a better practice. The flat tracker WCE will be a perfect trial for round 1.

100% Agree Not a flashy player but so clean and hard at the ball. If he can add some breakaway flare to his game he will become top 5 AFL material I just love watching him, he is so strong and clean in the contest, I haven't seen a Dees player like that in a long long time. I know Viney is hard but he's not as clean and as good with the ball as Clarry. Looking forward to watching him develop more again this year.... its going to be Huge

JLT Round 2 vs. Carlton at Casey Fields
Cheap Seats replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
You could be right there about the Blues and bruise free footy. Its hard to know how Carlton are travelling right now. I know they won't be looking at finals but it was hard to gauge their level of interest in this game. We smashed them in contested footy and clearances which I believe the Blues pride themselves at. Cripps wasn't playing but we absolutely belted them. What stood out for me (I haven't re watched the replay yet) was the ball movement and decision making. I am very impressed. Not to mention we were missing Tyson, Frost, Watts, Kent, Jetta, Garlett (I think that's it haha) who I believe are best 22. It's great to have this kind of depth. I know it's pre season and I am not get carried assay (round 1 is going to be a huge test....) but you can't help but get excited by what you're seeing and hearing at the club. -
JLT Round 2 vs. Carlton at Casey Fields
Cheap Seats replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
All this watts hype is quite amusing... A couple of points At this stage it's assumed watts is upset about this Rewarding players on good performance not reputation is a positive It's a long season there is no way jw dosent play this season We know what we'll get from jw there's no harm in playing youth. My opinion from this squad there are a lot of spots still up for grabd for rd 1 and plenty of time to get practice in beforehand -

I hope the Gawn & Spencer experiment proceeds. Could be a valuable weapon come the season proper. Apart from that i dont really care to much -
A nice stat Unfortunately no premiership points

Im looking forward to the game(s) today. Am very interest to hear from track watchers about the new game style.... and see what we implement today. I've got a feeling the fast game style may not be employed for every game. For example Round 1 v the Saints at Etihad we will use the fast game style but maybe not so much at the MCG Has there been big noticeable differences this preseason??? Interested on thoughts, can't wait to see the boys and girls tonight out West

I haven't read through the whole thread yet to see if there was a counter... and while I agree in principle its what the players are after I don't think its what will actually happen once they get their bread buttered. The AFLPA will probably increase the minimum base for rookies, eliminate the rookie list etc which is good for the lower paid players. I readily admit I don't know the details and am purely guessing. The big issue is the bigger pool of cash. There is no guarantee this money will go to the lower ranks, (unless written in some form of payment legislation). The players operate a free market (which is what they wanted to increase salaries, not restrict trade etc). What I think will happen is the top paid players and the more experienced will get more. Like we are seeing now with contracts. The poorer players will remain well paid but low compared to top end. If the AFLPA were serious they would share the pool and have a limit for the top paid so the bottom get more.... They clearly won't do that. Which for me means the players are simply after a cash grab. I believe the players deserve what they get, I don't believe they should throw it in the face of the people who make it possible - US the supporters who pay the memberships and watch the ads that make them the money. It will be very interesting to see what happens

I have no problem with you voicing your opinions I am not going to join your speculation about hyperthetical situations. Fyfe is a genuine established star. Ill repeat myself one last time - freo wont let him walk
-
Danger for a start is an excellent comparison No they wont his value (assuming no further major injuries) is still quite high, even with injuries you'd imagine freo would still offer him a massive contract - see JOM And probably not - depends on salary cap and what we'd offer. Eg pick and player but i wouldn't think so. Our cap space will be tight moving forwaed youd imagine with our young talent.... but who knows i dont know what our tpp is like. There is a chance but i wouldn't think so... but hey u never know Either way my point remains Freo wont let Fyfe walk

Cool Beg to differ all u want, i dont care. Freo will not let Fyfe walk. Plus it dosent change the fact that clubs do occasionly have to trade for free agents when they are restricted.
