I reckon Abblett was just afraid of facing jack Soft

100% Agree My thoughts were more that we really struggle against teams who put on a lot of pressure around the ball. Teams like GC are fast and highly skillfull like you said. But like last year if we can get first hands on the ball break clear and put pressure on GC when they have the ball I think we have the advantage. But I totally agree it's a 50/50. But personally I will be more upset if we let GC just free flow then the loss last week which was easily predictable for a lot of reasons

I disagree DubD I think the exact opposite. This is just my opinion I'm not saying you're wrong . Norf have bigger bodies which trouble us in the middle. Coupled with our lack of talls and our inability to deal with constant pressure i wasn't surprised ww dropped that game. Vs GC they are more a front running type and if we hunt them like we did thr adelaide game i expect us to win comfortably. Id be more upset with a lack of effort loss v gc then a tough fought loss to Norf

Yep that trip on trac was telling

And the rollercoaster continues..... Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Haha i love the roller-coaster of emotuons on this site... It's going to get nasty if we drop a couple of games. I personally dont think we are a contender this year but will be very happy to be proven wrong

The next three weeks will tell us how much thr group have matured and if they are ready for finals. We should all know by now the boys can do it. Getting it right consistently is the next challenge. Also lets not kid ourselves. After one good win other teams aren't just going to give us w's. For a start we haven't beaten the roos in years. Big big game next week. GO DEES
-
Welll Saturday night was unexpected. 2-1 after 3 games. With norf, suns and pies left I'd hope to win at least 2 of these but we all.know how melb go with expectation. None of the 3 sides are push overs on their days. Massive 3 weeks ahead

Negative 100 Once on stretcher game over sadly

The Champion data boys were on Sen today and said the hawks pressure factor in that first qtr was the highest recorded for any club. Not many will take notice but it partly explains the first qtr fade out and the hawks didn't let us play our game. Its a big credit to.them and sadly the formula to best us atm (high pressure) Sadly we were out coached and out played in the first and it set the hawks up for a gutsy w. That qtr clearly demonstrated there is a lot of work left before we are a top tier club. Also.some need to take a deep breath and acknowledge how hard the boys worked to get back in to and almost steal that game

Doesn't Sam Mitchell play off the back of the square for both the hawks and now wce? Isn't Mitchell regarded as one of the best stoppage clearance players in the league? Seems like it might be you who is the negative one.

2 final points Quoted from the linked article - http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-05-10/vfl-player-review-round-four Dean Kent: Dean had 18 possessions, seven tackles and kicked 1.1. It wasn’t the type of game where Kenty wasn’t able to show all of his strengths, because of the conditions. But the one pleasing thing out of Kenty’s game – that we were most pleased about – was his forward pressure. His ability to impact ground balls and put the opposition under pressure created opportunities for us. It’s been two weeks now that Kenty has played the way we want him to. He certainly puts his name up for AFL selection this week. Someone obvious rates what he can deliver As I pointed out above some of us like to discuss why things happen and rationalise. For you it's all about W&Ls so be it. But it doesn't make it the right answer I have never said don't share your opinion, I am simply saying let those who don't want to be simple discuss...
-
Fair enough - as I said I didn't read it because it seemed like a waste of time, but I should have before remarking. I still think it's pathetic - there are better ways to let off steam. What does it prove. The FD and players won't and nor should they care what any of us think. But each to their own. And if he's happy to name and shame he shouldn't have any problems with others calling him out publically.

This was never a personal attack but you have highlighted my point perfectly. Too many posters on D'land post emotional rubbish about how they're offended with the club or other posters. I just want to discuss the team on it's merits. You pointed out yourself earlier all that matters is wins which is why remarked about simple debate. It's not just about wins. there is 120 minutes and getting in to a position to score is as important as scoring or defending when you don't have the ball. The point of this thread is to discuss the next 6 weeks. Cheers for the thoughts on our forwards - I am hoping you also note it's the least experienced lines in our team in terms of games and experience. For mine Kent or JKH is like asking how long is a piece of string. Both offer something but neither have delivered consistently. And I think the inexperience has a lot to do with that Now we don't know what the roles are for those players and we don't know why Kent was dropped, My opinion is Goody has picked JKH and he shouldn't chop and change. But that doesn't make my opinion right - performance should be rewarded. Has Kent been performing in the VFL to deserve a re-call? I really hope we can sneak a few victories in the next 4 but no team NO TEAM will just say the Dees deserve this game. Now we've mixed a few threads all in to one I'd like to finish on topic by saying it's a big 4 weeks for the club if we still plan on making finals

I dont disagree but accept it's simple analysis You also dont need to critique everyone else conversation with it. What you accept as success has nothing to do with this conversation. And when I say you i mean the collective generally. I personally don't want to discuss or read people's emotional stance. i like to assess this team on its own merits for this year or the last game etc. I am.not inmocent here eithrr but the emotional out crys in many threads are embarrassing. Id like to discuss this team has been the youngest etc. Or analyse why we are. Discuss potential vs performance. Eg play jkh over kent. If u wwnt to keep it simple it's fine but dont waste my time
-
It depends how simple you want to be. I dont dismiss you're comment but there are some here (very few of us), that dont get caught up in the emotional w & l debate and wish to look at the side as it currently stands withoit emotion and the reasons why. Id suggest you continue to post in the post match discussions etc if you want to keep it simple

Agree I also think we were out coached and out played in that first half and didn't have the answers to respond before half time. Which is inexperienced players and maybe even coaching staff. Lewis alluded we are where we want to be in regards to 4 keys stats but failing badly in 2 others. Would love to know what they are and how the loss of gawn and other keys have affected those stats

While very true and a good point The reality is no one reads demonlamd. Radio and now social media is a lot more public Hence my stance on unwarrabred public ridicule of a jnr player. - thats more aimed at sen
-
I haven't read nor will i bother reading the whole letter. I.understand supporters frustration and a lot of u have been doing a lot longer then me. We all need to vent and i accept that... But qll i want to say is To single out a player who has played a handful of games is down right pathetic SEN and the letter writer are pathetic. You dont treat your own like that. Frustration and venting are one thing but that's down righy pathetic. I hope that bloke never returns

The next 4 weeks will give us a real idea where the clubs at i believe. We've copped some tough injuries and have dropped games - 2 should haves (freo hawks) and 2 could haves (cats tigers) I think the trend if dropping games will sadly continue. While we have some depth now and a bucket full of talent, we dont have an experienced consistent core of players deep enough to win consistently. I think we lack depth in our f50 and our d 50 needs more games together to gel. I think the coaches need to work out their best tem.moving forward and barring injuries stick to it. Im still hopeful of finals but we need to do well in the next 4 weeks. Go dees
-
I dont disagree LH its a good response and argument But McEvoy had 2 goals took some important clunks and 35ish hitouts at half time. Could easily argue that was the difference at the end of the game. I need to re look at game and collect thoughts bur we miss big maxy and even spencer. Sauce Jacobs will be licking his chops this week
-
Very important for firat use. Hawks exposed our lack of height yesterday As good as our kids are theyre not good enough (yet) when not getting first use. We rely on first use as our possession side of the game is terrible

I'll assume you mean the situation where freo enforce their right to match another contract and nothing to do with restriction of trade or any other legal concept i am not qualifed to.comment on. I also will state that i dont have the afl rules handy on fa (and i am not sure many people actually would know the exact implications) But if fyfe accepts another offer snd freo.match therefore forcing fyfe to stay at freo. My assumption would be fyfe would have to refuse the contract and nominate for one of the drafts making it more of a lottery. And I'd assume a few clubs would have cap space for fyfe with the new pay negotiations. As i said earlier there is a lot of water to go under the bridge. We dont know if he'll leave or if who will make offers. And depending on which club fyfe accepts to.sign with will depend on how negotiations and thr rules can be utilised. That being said If the lions are his choice nd they hve the first picks in the pre season drafts it makes more sense fyfe could walk (depening on afl rules) If it were adelaide and they had late picks a trade would make more sense as you'd safely assume someone would grab him in a draft before adelaide and there would be no other way to get fyfe apart from.trading so trading would make.more sense If neither appeal then fyfe stays put. He has to be traded or drafted or sign under fa. As fyfe is restrixted Each has a consequence which could be affected by freo or another club. And if freo can match and force a trade they'd be negligent not to get anything (pick/player) for him regardless unless theu get compo or bring in another fa The scenarios are objective to.the situation and its all guess work atm
