I reckon it has to do with the Houli one. There's some factors you can throw in like that he was facing him. Add a bit for that. And add the fact that Houli's right whack was 4, possibly 3 for good record.

6 weeks on the button. Small chance 5.

Would you credit our depth for helping us beat the Eagles in Perth? Dogs at Etihad? Pies on QB?

To each their own WJD. Before the season started he'd been hurt, but was regarded by many here and many in the media as best 22. Along with AVB. They didn't know who Hannan was at the time. I've seen Kent burn it up, mark well overhead for his size, and kick it 60. It's his uncontested marking on the lead I like the most. Unfortunately he needs to have a proper pre season to get the engine required for him to be used. I reckon players get given more time to grow up when they have specific attributes. He's still very young and has time. I think clubs with list problems would find a nice Kent sized hole that needs to be filled. Take a look at some of the lists out there that are crying out for the style of player he is. If Toumps can find his way onto a list like Port Adelaide's having shown nothing at all, a 23 year old quick player that's kicked 4 in a game can get onto Brisbane's or the Kangas. He'd come cheap too. It's not laughable. It's what Goodwin thinks. Rates him very highly. But I'm sure you know better. I'm not all that keen on him. I like him spoiling, but I think to be a decent player he needs to be 100% fit off a big pre season. Any slight issues and he gets shown up. Looking at Hibberd for example, it's hard to get excited about Wagner. That said, I'm pleased he's there. If he was a better footballer, he'd leave since he's not getting opportunities. If Salem, Hunt and Hibberd are out, we'll be grateful to have a mature body to roll through. They can't all be Jordie Lewis running round back there. You're misusing the word "laughable". And like the troll, you're not making any relevant comparisons. Just sticking the dagger into players fresh off a controversy or a poor game. Everyone posting here can take the list and pick a few guys they don't like, like you did, then claim those players are "laughable." I don't particularly like 6-8 players running around for us. But I can put aside my own ratings, and recognise that the club sees things I don't. All you've managed to do is pick on two guys. Both of whom have played good footy in recent seasons. Give me names on another list that were drafted in the area these guys were, that aren't best 22, but that ARE good depth. Or give me a highly rated team who's worst 6 are clearly better than ours. I bet you can't.

Interesting TPF

No. That's 8 that YOU think would struggle. Kent's played 56 games and is 23. If we delisted him, he'd end up on another AFL list easily. In other words, we have depth other clubs would use. ie Good depth. JKH was just given another contract, played good footy in his first year and got hurt. Been enormous in the VFL. Mitch King is a 200cm 20 year old ruckman. What was Max doing when he was 20? Every club has to put a few years into young 200cm players. He's occupying his spot on the list as he should. You can't claim he's poor depth. Wagner played super footy last year. Out of the side only because we have unbelievable starting rebound defenders. He's the exact kind of depth you want. Garland, Hulett and White are the only ones I'll give you. I have my doubts any would find their ways onto other lists. And I'll give you BenKen who I reckon is finished at the end of the season, and of course Lumumba. That's 5 players. Now take a look at GWS, currently the best going round, stocked full of high picks and money players. Rubbish no-name depth: Downie (retired), Mohr, Lloyd, Griffen, Tiziani, Simpson, Mzungu, De Boer... De Boer and Mzungu played some good footy, and are done. All these names wouldn't make it onto our list. You can do the same experiment for all the clubs. We're doing as well as anyone. Better really.

If we can set up to protect his lack of pace, I have a lot of trust in him.

Worst. Thread. Ever. The depth is possibly the best I've seen in my adult life. And the age profiles are exactly where you want them. IMHO we have the best depth of any club in the league, besides GWS.
-
Our depth is amazing. only 4-5 players on the list you wouldn't trust to present well in the AFL. Our injury list is what's important.
-
Hay Saty, can you do me a favour and pick 6 numbers between 1 and 45?
-
Yeah I think Pedo fills the gap really well. A NQR that another club wants to see off, like Casboult (God help me) would only frustrate. I think next year we can expect some results from Weed. And then the year after, we'll know exactly what we have.
-
Yeah exactly. I didn't include those first few names just because If you're glass half empty, they haven't made it yet. Frost probably the most stiff of those. In terms of pure quality/ability, there's a reason Braysh and Weed were taken early, and everyone can see it. I can totally see games coming along where Hogan gets double teamed and Weed outscores him. Long way to go, but that's his potential.

This post is getting a lot of love. We all saw Hunt forward for huge chunks of game time against the Eagles. And if it doesn't work, it's not like he can't go back if needed.

So much positivity around the club, no-one wants to talk about poor old Gus. Too much of a downer. -
The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Dappa Dan replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah that's not bad. I reckon Tomahawk was carved out of stone from when he was drafted. But yeah, both have the proverbial turning circle of the QE2. Speaking of Hawkins... so many people rate him. I really, really don't. And not because of parochialism. -
"Yeah so you should with all your draft picks"
Dappa Dan replied to Stevienic23's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's also the "yeah but you tanked" crap... What tanking picks did we get? Watts maybe? Trengove/Scully? We certainly didn't win out there. Trengove hasn't worked... Scully, admittedly, was part of what got us Hogan. But even that was just us being clever. -
The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Dappa Dan replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd love to hear a McCartin-type comparison in terms of body shape. I've always leaned towards body types dictating the trajectory of a player's career. For example, Goddard at the Saints I reckon is similarly built to Jack Watts. Even is a great kick like Jack. Jack's a bit taller and quicker. Goddard a better mark, but still... Who around the AFL resembles a lunking great chubby lad like McCartin? I can't think of anyone. Mummy maybe? Not at that age though. -
Sneaky little bump here... what with all our re-signings. This topic actually occupies more of my demons ponderings than anything else right now. Don't get me wrong, I'm on board with this season, and will ride this wave til it's over. However... I think most people would say that the serious heavy lifting being done at the club, the core, Viney, Oliver, Petracca, Hogan, Gawn... they're that young that our window really is open for at least 6 years. Surround those guys with short termers like Jordie (and a bunch of super players in the next tier like Hibberd, Garlett, Hannan, Jetta)...And the way I see it we have an incredibly well set next 3 years... and after that are in a place where we only need to rotate aged players out and recruit for specific needs... It's every list-managers wet dream. Only thing lacking possibly is more stars... So with that in mind... And with JKH re-signing... I'm having real consternation over what happens on the bottom end of the list. There's some players there I don't want to see go, but someone has to. And not just in this one off season. Anyone not named Trengove, Kennedy, Garland, Hulett and Spencer are going to be there next year. For a variety of reasons. Either they're superstars, will be re-rookied or were recently re-signed. I reckon JKH getting re-signed changes the complexion of the list enormously. So minimum is 3 players turned over. Pick your three... That's sort of already been covered. What I'm interested in now though is the following two years. We will be taking 3 players in the draft. We may trade picks or a player for someone else's KP defender. Or a KP forward as people have discussed. I think you might even see a Jordie Lewis situation pop up in the next couple of off-seasons, where an aging star says get me to MFC. So 3 draftees this year and next. We are going to see some serious talent have to leave the club. And what's more, because it's cramped, we will be pushing assets out of the club to rise up in the draft order, particularly in 2018, which as it happens is a superdraft year. Think about it. For 6-8 years, the starting 22 will have Gawn, Viney, Oliver, Tracca, Hogan, Salem, Watts, Viney, Tyson, Stretch, Hannan, TMac, Hunt every possible game they're fit. That's 13 names. You only need 9 more for a 22... We've got a bunch of 27 year olds that pick themselves just as much as those names. Hibberd, Jetta, Garlett... Then you have guys that are developing, that you'd assume would produce 15 games a year in Harmes, Wags, ANB, OMac, Weed. There is no room in this 22... Unless something bad happens. A trade or an unforseen bad injury. Fair enough... You still need to slot in two first rounders and two second rounders in the time that the above names are running around playing finals. My point... I've been seeing arguably the best football my club's played in my adult life this last month. With as good a match-day coach as I've seen in my adult life. With easily the best midfield I've seen in red and blue in my adult life, who are all yet to hit their prime... and all those things aren't even the best thing about MFC. The projected list is. It's fair to say in this off season there might be not one player on it that I think is NQR. I'm blown away by that. Alright. Jizz post done.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 15
Dappa Dan replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
So... Matchups... TMac, OMac and Frost on Buddy, Reid and Sinclair (with a bit of Naismith). Tmac on Reid and rebound... Omac on the high ball, Frost on the lead for buddy with the big double team. Sinclair and Naismith can do as they please. The midfield... Eesh. What do you do? Olly on Parker? Viney on Kennedy? Melksham on Hanneberry? This is twice the midfield we just nearly lost to in West Coast. Our forward line though, will smash it. I don't reckon week to week we'll see anything close to predictable midfield matchups. I'm pumped. We're a chance anywhere anytime. -
How about we take the condescending "Good onya mate" mate garbage and put it aside for now, what do you think? It's unnecessary, and the rest of your post is pretty good. For the second time. Arguing something in a case doesn't mean you believe it. Lots of cases in front of judgement people plead guilty so they can take a lesser penalty. He argued what he argued cos he knew he wouldn't get off on his "intention." The whole thing isn't relevant to the case. I only claimed it as something we see with the naked eye. In the court of public opinion, if you prefer. I didn't suggest he should, could or did take that argument to the Tribunal. So just to be clear so it's not confused for the fourtreenth time tonight... when it comes to his intention, I don't believe there was one to crack Oliver in the chin REGARDLESS of what he pleaded. Does the doctor disgree? Does the doctor make ANY claim about force in any of his findings? He's a doctor. He offers a medical diagnosis. That's it. As for the umpire. Yeah. Sure. He thought it was rough. Ok. So he reports it and then the league makes a call. Again, in this case, I don't look to an umpire for their thoughts. They do a bang up job, but they miss things. One guy in a sea of Eagles and Demons... I don't even blame him. Ok. If you're gonna quote me, take me in context. I didn't say the elbow to the face happens all the time in every game. I said the push and shove happens. You want to get into this, then do it right. The actual accidental head high contact happens a lot more regularly than anyone here thinks. I reckon noone even blinks an eye when someone like Ballantyne for example, remonstrates with Tom Hawkins. It doesn't even look out of place even if he does collect him. I agree it shouldn't make a difference what uniform the guy wears. But right now we have emotional over the top responses from Melbourne supporters... and an overwhelming response from the whole rest of the league (impartials) AND some red and blue, rusted on supporters in the media who think this was a good call. I don't take that as instruction on how to think, and I don't for a minute expect you to either. However. Is it not compelling? Groupthink can be dangerous, for sure... But in this case, if (and I stress if) you don't believe the force was significant, and wasn't intended to be significant... I reckon I'd like to see those overlooked. At the end of the day, that's what's happened, and that's what's best for footy. Or at least that's their view (not yours) and I reckon it's an ok one. They're forced to grade things on video evidence (it's all we have) and sure maybe the video doesn't show the truth. I'm inclined to agree that Clarry's being honest that it surprised him. But on the evidence at hand, which is all we or they ever get.... For every one of these tiny bits of video evidence, we're gonna see a lot of genuine accidental contact in remonstrations, which if you have it your way, will lead to striking charges... and further diving calls and medical report mumbo jumbo. Each to their own, you don't have to like it. I don't expect anyone to. I don't really care if they do. I will respond to your condescending tone on here though, and ridiculous assertions I'm defending a player I didn't even know existed. Still don't really.

Pay that. lol

See Dante. You've done it again... Argumentative? Sure. Although I'd have thought that's pretty obvious. And also, In didn't quote you, you quoted me. I didn't look for an argument with you. So I'm calling Clarry a cheat now am I? I'd like you to point out, in detail, where I did that. Or is that a little too argumentative for you? You accuse me of claiming an MFC player is a cheat with ZERO proof, and I'm the argumentative one. OK. Sure. Well. Moron is a relative term. I think it's clear a moron would get caught up with misplaced passion defending a player just because he follows the club that player plays at. THAT'S a moron. An intelligent person puts forward an argument, is accountable for what he says albeit on a footy forum, and can back up what he says with facts. Also an intelligent person can see teh difference between a poster posting an opinion, and a poster openly accusing someone else of being a poor supporter, and of accusing a player of cheating. You see the difference? As an example... I can prove you're an idiot, because you made this personal twice without even knowing you did it. You CAN'T prove that I'm defending Schofield, am accusing Clarry of cheating, or that I'm an idiot. Oh so now I'm egotistical? Coming from someone who feels the need to pick a fight with a stranger on the internet? Yeah. You run and hide. That's what happens when you lose an argument so flat out you know you're gonna cop a bollocking when you come back. Do us both a favour. Don't quote me on here. Ever.
-
What? Who the [censored] is Schofield? Are you blind? It's not Saturday night on the match day thread. We're talking about a Tribunal case. Not barracking for our team? What the hell did you quote my post for? Nothing in it makes reference to anything you said? I didn't say anything about the doc? What the hell are you prattling on about? The Docs report was taken into account. There was impact. It wasn't severe. Clarry wasn't seriously hurt. Just surprised. Anything about that you don't understand? Seems to me noone really brought the doctor's opinion into disrepute... Unless... Unleeeeess... You're an idiot and you can't separate simple facts from the red and blue fog circling your brain. Fair dinkum. I didn't know we had idiots lurking around in demonland. What's this now, the seventh time I've said this? I don't give a rats what happens to Schofield. I don't think the force was sufficient enough for Schofield to get rubbed out. And part of me is glad he didn't because it will (hopefully) mean the Clarry hate subsides a bit throughout the AFL. Jeez give me a spell. Intimidated by silk. Holy [censored]. Now you're telling me you know what people you've never met were thinking. Like me "defending" Schofield. It's really simple. It was a feather tap that surprised and didn't hurt Clarry. Everything else was noise. Everyone needs to stop getting bent out of shape.

Nah. If you were intelligent or thoughtful you'd look at the address on your browser where it says demonland. Demon fans com on here and engage in discussion about anything to do with MFC and footy in general. And hey. I'm happy to cease arguing my intelligent and thoughtful opinion, when you cease quoting me on topics you don't think about, and accuse posters of supporting their club in a way you don't approve of. Sound good?
