Check the quote. He'll be looking at him in subsequent rounds. Jones is out for 4-6 (ie... 3). I reckon he'll get his go on the g.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 14
Dappa Dan replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
So no one on here has suggested Kent. He's driven me nuts all year in much the same way jkh has... but I remember before he came back into the side I said the side needed what he brings badly. A leading high half forward who can kick the leather off it to get it deep. I'm not saying he's fulfilled his promise... but with watts out... is he a smart play? He didn't get a go in the jlt against west coast. They won't have much tape on him... on paper... what do people think? -

Ah of course... copuchas has it. Tmac will go forward. Wagner to defense. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 14

YUp hes out -
Yup. And the simple fact they know the ground and we don't. Same old story really. Kick the crap out of them in the guts and we will be there at the final siren. Let them run around without a contest and watch us get smashed. Noone's mentioned the JLT game we played them in. Even with Kennedy out they smashed us.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 14
Dappa Dan replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I've been reading this. Not saying it's daft or lacks insight... I just really reckon going by West Coast performance last week, and going by what we've produced this year on the back of, basically, clearance and contested footy alone... leaving out jones and not trying to replace his numbers somehow, is exactly what West Coast will hope we'll do. But then are JKH and Stretch capable of replacing Jones? Is anyone? I dunno. I feel like ANB will be given the Jones role. I've watched the Dogs game X times (I'm not telling how many), and right up until ANB disposes the footy, he looked awesome. Seemed to know where to be most of the time. With that in mind, yeah. I guess Gawn in for Jones, ANB to midfield with tracca and others... and Pedo forward. Seems simple. I just really want to overwhelm them in the middle like we've done every game this year. I foresee a game just like the Pies game. Their midfield is still super. Now that Trenners is off the table, I sort of want to see Wagner in. Run 8 off the back of the square again. Cross your fingers and pray for disposal efficiency to hold up. -
State of Origin more likely than this. Any time you include potential injuries to players, you know it'll get shouted down. Only way it can work is if it's only put on for obscure players, or recent draftees. VFL players possibly looking for a shot at the big time. If that's the case then sure, I'd watch. Wouldn't pay to see it though.

I think we all picked it. Subi scares everyone, including Goody. That and the 6 day breaks.
-
And the trickles of blood on his forehead. Give it a week and it'll be plastered with other graffiti, and smelling faintly of urine. I reckon it's about a 50% chance you'll find a faint trace of red and blue paint on Bugg's fingers today.

In the same presser that Goody says he's not being considered this week, he says he'll be looked at in the weeks following. Jones is out 4-6. This thread will be revisited til he's back.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 14
Dappa Dan replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
So that means likely JKH, possibly Wagner. -
I like it. The last sentence you went for there, you beat me to it. We've been talking about Trengove's weaknesses like this massive elephant in the room. The whole idea he's that slow he may as well not be out there. If Goody plays him, and he gets exposed, it's not like he can't do other roles. And it's not like he won't give 110%. He'll have nothing to lose out there. I'm thinking about Goody's plan B, C etc... He's blown me away with some of his wacky moves that turned 4-5 goal deficits into wins. I reckon with Trenners, you take a little bit of Mitchell, mix in a touch of Stevie J... marinate in a bowl of early Ablett jr. Start him off the bench... at the first midfield rotation, you give him the job on Mitchell. You give him ten minutes to run with him. As the game plays out, you wait and see if he can nullify or get his own ball. Do your sums. If we're breaking even there, or winning, you let him keep the job. If he starts getting exposed, then you slide him deep forward. They had this role earmarked for Braysh before he got hurt. I reckon you'll see fireworks. He was always a smart operator up forward. Simplify his role. My biggest fear then would be ALL our biggest fear, all season. If it's not our kicking inside fifty, it's the teams that rebound. It's painful every time. Trenners being the anti-rebound guy could potentially hurt us.
-
Just did. I think it might have been taken down. Still... As long as there's some more oomph added to the Bugg legend, that's fine by me.

HOW DID I MISS THIS?! No [censored]? I might have to go find it. It's not the one that Stuie guy blocked me from, is it?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
Dappa Dan replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Looked at him very closely in fantasy the year he was rubbed out. Had him very high indeed, almost a keeper. So when we targeted him I was doing cartwheels. I didn't think he'd be this good though. He's exceeded even my lofty expectations. The only downside... I wish he was 23. -
Dees open contract talks with Jayden Hunt
Dappa Dan replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
I know what you mean. It feels to me like we're a threat to get anyone, even surprise ones. I feel like we have a lot of "gravity" around us. We're that much of a destination club that players nearing the end of their careers, with a coach turnover and rebuild going on, will think of us first as a place to go. If I'm a midfielder, I know Viney, Oliver, Tracca and Tyson will crash and bash and take the big hits. If I'm a forward I know Hogan will get the best defender. I even think in an open market, like Josh Kelly for example... We don't have the war chest that the Roos and others have, or room in the cap... but if we got within cooee of their number, our list and attractiveness mean we're in any conversation immediately, much like the Hawks were for the last 10 years. The flipside of this is the guys we currently have. There wouldn't be a name there that would want to move. Not one in 45. Pick 57 you mean. Harder, better, quicker... but he's certainly no JJ by foot. Which says a lot about his other attributes. I really like the litmus test you can apply to any player... Putting their name in front of impartials. For example, on bigfooty, there's a couple of threads going now. One is asking simply "who's the most damaging player in the AFL." The usual suspects, Dusty, Danger, Buddy... but there's always a few ragtag types who throw up names you don't think of. Hunt's name comes up, and not with MFC supporters. I don't necessarily think that's completely accurate... but when it comes to opposition supporters, they're going nuts for him. Oddly the same thing is happening with Oliver vs Petracca. Some people love Oliver the way MFC supporters do, but the majority are more scared of Trac. I dunno, maybe it's because he kicks goals, and they're always what people notice. Personally I reckon most on here have it as Oliver > Tracca. The other thread you see is the 2013 redraft. Hunt goes as high as 4 or 5 in that. Kelly, Bont, Cripps, Hunt, Merrett, Crouch, Lobb, Taylor, Nankervis, Aliir, Brown... that's sort of how it goes. Again, from impartials. That's the kind of thing... well... you only see from other clubs. We NEVER get those. -
Yeah. I thought you'd make that reaction. Firstly. My post isn't sentimental. Others might be, mine isn't. I'm concerned that just because we're doing well winning the hard ball, people think it'll come easily without Jones. I want to see a mature body in there that knows about extraction. He's no Jones, but then no one is. Yes, Olly, Tyson and Viney have been superb in there... and likely ANB will relish the opportunity to take over Jones' workload. But I don't trust ANB that much yet. Trengove might not be quick, but he does the in close stuff well, and has done it all year at VFL level. Secondly. Stretch doesn't "have to play" whatever that means. He didn't set the world on fire earlier in the year. And hasn't done much since he went back. He's a tiny whippet-type player. If you want that, then get JKH who's laying tackles and getting heaps of the ball. And from what we can see, is taking on his coach's instructions about working defensively. Thirdly. I'm not worried about Trengove playing 4 quarters. I'm worried about the uncontested game that West Coast can click into with runners and distributors like Gaff, Shuey, Hurn, Sheed, Yeo, McGovern, Jetta, Cripps, Shepherd, Lecras. Like it or not, our skills aren't as good as some sides... and I think West Coast can be lethal. I'm not concerned that Jack can't play out a game. I just worry that they'll man him up with someone that can run off him when we kick behinds, or turn it over. They've been incredibly soft this year, and then out of nowhere last week smacked the Cats with brutal inside work that it seemed they'd forgotten. Priddis won a Brownlow, Sheed has broken out, Mitchell is a classic clearance gun, Shuey is an out and out star inside and outside. I see this as being closer to the Pies game. Which means we'll NEED the inside work of Trengove more than what anyone else we have left has offered. Seems to me everyone's in one camp or another. One group say Gawn in Jones out. Some of us want to maintain list structure... So it's a mid. Preferably a Jones-clone. Failing that... someone that approximates a Jones-style game. Stretch doesn't. JKH doesn't either. Braysh is hurt. Kent's not a midfielder. Johnstone's not ready. Trengove isn't a sentimental choice... at least not for me. I think he's the best man for the job. Certainly for the 4-6 week job. He's on the list for a reason. And this is it.

Idiotic that Neitz is still ignored. Hall ahead of him is a disgrace.
-
I've been on a break actually. I wonder if demonland traffic is higher this year? Is the record still draft day two years ago?
-
What a time to follow the Dees, SWYL.
-
I'm thinking more that once the game settles down and West Coast realise they can't match it with us in contested ball, they'll back their skills and their knowledge of Subi and start playing keepings off. Mitchell knows a thing or two about that. Leading away from trenners, guys like Gaff will clean up.
-
Yeah, so do I. My previous was very glass half empty. I have a feeling they'll split the difference and take the quicker JKH over, but if we show signs of needing more hard ball gets on the inside, he'll come in subsequently. If he does play, he's not a completely dumb move. As long as he's not expected to do anything more than what he does at the moment. TBH, I think people forget what a good overhead mark he is, and what a good shot at goal he is. I like the idea of some time spent in a pocket. Lord knows we've rotated plenty of blokes through there. There's also something to be said for what it will mean to his team mates to see someone come back and play after being written off. Not to mention the fact it shows if you perform in VFL, you will be rewarded (eventually).
-
You're very vocal on him being left out, aren't you PF? He'll be a popular choice, demons fans will love seeing him, and love when he gets touches as he's such a superb user and decision maker. I reckon how it'll play out, he'll have a huge first half, then as the game wears on he'll be shown up for his pace... and by the end of the week people will grudgingly accept he's done and you'll claim bragging rights. With all that considered? I still want them to pick him.
-
I was mulling this over with a mate who had the same concern. I reckon it comes down to why Gawn is a gun. What are his strengths. Running all day and being able to get where the ball's going to go. Intercept marks and marks inside our fifty. His hitouts are important, and I don't think his technique needs work. From what we're told his fitness has been super in his layoff. The big one for me though, is the hits he takes. Ruckmen running into him and tackling him. Bumping him. Anyone who's played the game knows you can be super fit engine wise, then you take one big genuine hit, and your energy is gone. It'll be interesting, but I'm confident he'll be able to have a positive effect, if not a dominant one.

All in good fun DD. Your post wasn't stupid. It's impossible to imagine dropping any of the three KP defenders. Yeah huge double blow for them. We could very easily be playing off with them for the same finals spot.
