  1. that's not the way it works... goodwill refers to the value of a business that isn't made up of it's assets... i.e. if i had a milk bar that had $100k worth of net assets, but I sold it for $200k, then the $100k would be goodwill... it represents the value of the business which isn't made up of the assets it owns, it's good name, its loyal customers, its quality service etc... when the MCC give us money, it would simply be written off as an expense on their behalf, and reduce their profit... while it would be nice to join back up with the MCC, unfortunately I can't see it happening... as people have already said, it would lack the support of the members, as we'd need a third of non melbourne supporting members to support the integration of the club... the one way we could convince the MCC though is if we could show them that we would be a profitable subsidiary for them, due to efficiencies created by the merger, and could help them be more profitable... could we do that? i'm not sure... and even if we could it would be no certainty... 2. hahaha, this made me laugh this afternoon... i'm sure stevens got the whole idea for the story from YM's thread too... at least he was kind enough to associate him with it...
  3. i might have to go to one of these... never been before... i'm usually either at the footy by myself, or with mates who follow the opposition or are neutral, so I never make it along to these things... might pop in after our first win against freo in a fortnight...
  4. there are lots of other options... why does the solution at demonland always seem to be to throw a kid in to the wolves? be patient and give them time... you're already talking about putting pressure on juice to hold his spot? how about blooding him? how many games has he played? surely juice gets some time to cement his spot at full forward and let him play, before we give it to a kid running around in sandy 2's, doing exactly what juice was doing 2 years ago... that's taking a step backwards with our development, not forwards...
  5. not saying any of those players are going to be the messiah of the MFC... but all of them would get a game before zomer at the moment, so what's the point of promoting the kid if he aint gonna play..?
  6. too true are his comments on the MCC... it hurts to think we left them 30 years ago, and now they're pumping out profits of a touch under $28 million, and we're under the pump...
  7. neita looked like he was holding back tears the entire time... you could hear in his voice how emotional he was... can't do anything but love the big fella... said he just wants to get his body right, finish off his career on a positive note, and leave the team in a healthy condition...
  8. at least he's not missing through injury...
  9. that's how I'd name the team... Bell on Bradshaw, Carroll on Brown, Rivers on Henderson pealing off... can throw frawley from the bench back there too... Wheatley can play reasonable tall on an opponent... if we hit panic stations, dunn or miller, even bruce can go back there... plenty of options... and tell me how my forward setup is "weak"... how could we improve it? green would be very dangerous as a leading forward i think, robbo found some touch last week, aussie looks like he knows how to crumb pretty well, bater would be a welcome return, miller will present like he has all season, one of the only ones, and flash will give us that pace across the forward line we need... with dunn on the bench to also play forward, I think it's a pretty strong forward line given we're short 1 David Neitz and the condition of our list at the moment... Could bring juice in, but i'd like to see how this faster forward line works, i think we'd find it more effective than any setup we've had this season so far...
  10. well once he's on the list, you simply look at it from a selection issue... does valenti warrant selection this week? i'd play him ahead of moloney, and with whelan looking like getting rubbed out, there is two available spots, plus neita makes three... bring in Bate, Miller and Valenti... bate can play tall/small, so we're not getting top heavy... as on the selection committee, they have been hard to judge, but i think I have a feel of how it's being done now though... and if i had to guess, they won't play valenti this week, even though I'd like to see it happen... Miller and Bate will come in for Whelan and Neitz, and I think C. Johnson or Garland will come in for Moloney... Bartram is on the fringes too... may get squeezed out for whelan's return the following week... it doesn't say anywhere that the player coming off the rookie list has to be a like replacement... it would be a waste promoting zomer or spencer unless they're going to contribute, which they're not this year... and we have enough key position players on the list who didn't play for melbourne on the weekend... meesen, holland, martin, newton, warnock, garland, bate... we have plenty of talls to cover neitz just fine... but valenti is ready for the step to AFL and contribute...
  11. given neita is on the long term injury list, I would imagine this is being done so the club can promote Shane Valenti this week... I think he should come straight into the side... thoughts?
  12. Given that whelan is most likely suspended, and neita is on the long term injury list, additional changes to my team for this week.. Out: Whelan In: Shane Valenti team now reads... FB: Bartram, Carroll, Bell HB: Wheatley, Rivers, Sylvia C: McLean, Jones, Bruce HF: Bate, Miller, Davey FF: Wonaemirri, Robertson, Green R: White, McDonald, Valenti I/C: Morton, Frawley, Dunn, Jamar EMG: Newton, C. Johnson, C. Garland
  13. more like this... Foll: Jeff White, Nathan Jones, Shane Valenti get the kid in there!
  14. bailey said during the week and I agreed with him, that the clearances is an area we've actually been pretty good... i'm pretty sure we won the clearances in the first 3 games, we were at least competitve in this area while we were getting smashed everywhere else... however this is an area we've fallen off in the last couple weeks, which I put down to jamar playing instead of johnson... once the ball hits the deck PJ is athletic enough to help clear the ball, or stop the opposition clearing it... while Jamar is about as useful as a tree that gets in the way in this aspect of the game... the problem against carlton too was the quality of the clearances, which is attributable to one chris judd being the freak that he is...
  15. In: Miller, Bate Out: Neitz, Moloney FB: Whelan, Carroll, Bell HB: Wheatley, Rivers, Sylvia C: Morton, McLean, Bruce HF: Bate, Miller, Davey FF: Wonaemirri, Robertson, Green R: White, Jones, McDonald I/C: Bartram, Frawley, Dunn, Jamar EMG: Newton, C. Johnson, C. Garland newton oe johnson to come in if whelan or rivers are suspended...
  16. that's been the story all year... why are we giving so many goals away with free kicks? agree with you on Col, like the look of him down back... adds toughness, pace and skill...
  17. you're one of those people who screams at the football "Kick the bloody thing!" aren't you god damn you idiots annoy me... don't have much comprehension of how football is played...
  18. exactly... this game shows just how much a strong affilliate doesn't result in a strong AFL team... box hill got smashed by us, but we saw what happened when melbourne took on hawthorn a month ago...
  19. miller cannoned directly into his back... brown more took his side, and had his arms out to brace the impact, didn't hit him with his whole body... should be available against us... and to be honest, if he plays as well as he did tonight I'll be happy...

  21. he was named on the bench for one game, dropped the next i believe... wasn't given much of a chance...
  22. that will be correct... not sure why moloney can't get a game, however I think CJ did enough last week to earn another run... he found the footy, which has been his problem in the past... his skills are there, they will improve... want to drop a midfielder, how about everyone's love child bartram, he's been horrible so far this season... needs to go back to the 2's and find some form...
  23. correct weight... if it's to happen there will be a minimum of fuss...
  24. http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/demo...8025388841.html well...
  25. i get what you're saying... my point was even if you followed the club, $500 is still a hard amount to front up... plus if you want to take your partner...
