In one contest on Friday night, the ball was on its way in to the forward line. Hibbo had 5 m gap (trailing) his opponent. As things we building and the ball was one kick away, Hibbo sagged off a further 5 m. Ball kicked to his man. He mad a last mad dash to close the gap and was easily outmarked. If he had have been body on body, the player would not have even been an option. This was just terrible craft. He may want to only jump for the intercept marks, but he has to be accountable to his man. Trailing and splitting off when Essendon were 1 kick away was inept.

Box Hill Hawks v Casey Demons - VFL Round 1
buck_nekkid replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just a thought: what if the guys with potential for call up knew they limited game time. Others who thought they were close but in for the full game dropped their heads a bit? Potentially an us and them scenario. i would hope not, but could quite explain why so many were quiet, and others who had limited game time really stepped up. preuss obviously had a blinder in the showers! -
Think that was also Goodies line in the presser, so probably came from the team meeting.
-
We need a full back. Can he pull on his old boots? Couldn’t be any worse than the giggle brothers we got back there now...
-
Biggest issue is we play Thursday. Keep an eye out and see if anyone is ‘time managed’ who is playing well at Casey. The short turnaround may impact selection.

Ok, that was shocking. The defenders failed to go man on man. They prefer to have 10 m or more of space from their direct opponents, and this really cost us. Tommy Mac was not even there. Nate Jones - first Quarter, then nouffin. Our gameplan is built on winning contest after contest - except we simply don’t. We have no legspeed. None. We are outrun all over the ground. We relied on individuals to do heroic efforts to make a difference. We took the game on, only when someone did something spectacular. Goody says ‘no exucses’. He owns this. Lets see what he does. Time for massive changes and a change in mindset. We are really back at the bad old days. I said some pretty bad things about the umpires during the game. I stand by every one of those. That was simply dreadful by the maggots.

Hot and windy conditions. Should be a cracking night for footy if the wind comes off a bit. off for a few thirsty ales before the game (preload at normal prices) as the weather suggests, then off to the ‘G no excuses, Mr Goodwin? Lets see....

Ok, Clint, here goes: Max is getting back to form. Midfield bulls getting their hands on it and should win more than their share against Essendon. play Tom higher to give more marking options between the arcs. Tag Saad off HB (Hunt or Lockhart) to stop their rope a dope. look for better skills into half forward, after being embarrassed last week. Better conditions for forwards. i hear Trac has been offered a large Hawaiian and a garlic bread if we win. Zac Dawson and bell-end should be covered easily by Max and Daisy the mascot. i think If we play poorly, we lose by 5 pts. If we are average we win by 12. If we get back some spark I see us winning by 40+. ready to buy what i’m Selling Clint?

Kielty at CHB ? I thought they wanted him forward... -
Wow. All the angst over selection. if Goodie believes that the guys that were down on form are a better chance than fringe players of delivering for the team, then he’s gotta keep the faith. From outside, and with just the Captains run, what can we know? think if we go down Friday, the axe will swing hard then....
-
Then we can rely on the subconscious also recognising the physical action of ‘smashing through’ the negative comments and destroying them?
-
Hore, Kielty, C Wagner, Stretch in May, Sparrow, out, 2 more out of a group you could throwblanket over ( about 5 others) who would be lucky to hold spots. Hore into the backline, Salem to HB. Kielty backup ruck and 3rd tall forward. Stretch to wing. Wagner as pressure forward. TMac to play high, weids from pocket or square. Trac from pocket or square. Garlett back via Casey.

Contention: until the team can deliver ‘plan A’, There is no use even having a plan B. Evidence. Plan A has not been sighted. Plan B not sighted either. Whenplan A works, we don’t need plan B. When plan A doesn’t work, it’s because we are not delivering plan A. Simples. Plan B is a conspiracy theory.

2nd youngest side in round 1. Runners Limited on ground. we need a leader on each line, regardless of their ‘title’. Somone who gets the line group together and quarterback’s the play, gives them a rev, reminds them of the task, or whatever. Lewis and Jones and maybe Nev. after that, I’m looking at who is going to stand up and lead. Who will rally others with words and inspire with deeds. Until everyone is 100% on plan A (which we are clearly not) we can’t expect a leaderless team to shift mid game to plan B. Call Brayshaw what you want. I’m Looking for leadership beyond titles to move us forward. Not seeing much of that.

Lewis. Lever. May. Jetta. Gawn in the middle. Bucky the hamster forward (no one else springs to mind). Leadership!

Multi-Dimensional Mobile Talls in the wet/wind

Kielty also getting mentioned in dispatches and may prove an option. weids is normally a ferocious tackler. T Mac maybe start on the wing and play higher, acting as conduit? need good smalls at their feet. This cupboard looks bare. -
Think Trac is a ‘cream’ player. When we are going, he will look great. When we are struggling, he’s not the one to dig us out of a hole. We got great meat and two veg men in the middle. When we get our mojo back, he will look the dogs bollocks. Up until then, he will frustrate the hell out of us all.

Is Inside 50 Dominance now a Strategy to Exploit?
buck_nekkid replied to Lou C. Fur's topic in Melbourne Demons
This tactic has previously been known as ‘rope a dope’, and is the whole basis of Druggies gameplan. On Saturday night we couldn’t slingshot back up the field because we never got near it. Defensively, we were unbelievably bad. Geelong got numbers back, made f50 entries a contest then spread so much harder than us. they let our ability to win the middle ‘rope a dope’ and 80 points later there isn’t too much glory in either of our arcs. -
I could see us making a few changes. May out, possibly Petty to come in. I think playing May in the intercept role was not ideal. Petty would serve us better. I would think Omac is at risk. I could see Stretch coming in, and playing a wing or half forward role. There is a long list of people he would replace, ANB, Sparrow being possibles. We need our half forwards to really lock down their half backs, as we see at the moment, with no lock in, the Bummers run and gun will cut us open. Hunt in a defensive role of Saad could also work. Set KK back to half back. Lets see what he has. If we had him and Salem quarterbacking with better 1:1 defense behind them, the backline would start to shape up nicely. We need a genuine crumber /small forward. Maybe this is where we put Lockhart, or use him as a lockdown half forward. I loved the way he slammed Selwood several times. Not sure who else we can look at with Jeffy out. DId Spargo do enough?? We went too tall into a wet game. Friday night looks dry (27 during the day). We could certainly look at Keitly for a debut as ruck support/forward, as I doona think Preuss does enough around the ground to make the squad yet.

Did you notice that in the Goody presser the tooth rotting drink was rotated so that ‘Gary Ablett’ was visible, in front of Goody, the whole time? I wonder if that was accidental, or some Cats supporting Nuffie setting up the room?? Otherwise, Goody sounded measured, and is talking the long game. Lets see what he can deliver. I think we lost it at selection. We are not balanced, and have almost zero zip where we need it. Too many out of form, and rushing (which flows on into making everyone else rush). If we bomb it versus the bombers, they can get us.
-
The umpires weren’t looking at us, so even Clarrie will be lucky to get votes with 44 touches and 12 clearances. It will be all ‘danger!’
-
We look like we slog and have no ‘spark’. It is almost like we are scared, not bold. It is a terrible start. There are about 6 players that did well. The rest...not so much. Our approach to using the ball inside 50 was a disgrace. We need a crumbing forward, and players who will run and support. We also need to hit up targets. If we can turn at 3:3, we can run that to 5:3 and be back on track. Last year we had a couple of horrendous losses, and we turned it around. I hope we can do it this year. We have several major problems to fix.

The Umpires have nearly been as bad as we have
