  1. what you meant to say was.....where is our abundance of mids !!! period !! lol We have only TWO capable genuine in and under types that will relentlessly get their own ball time after time. Stand up N Jones, you too J Viney. Its a pretty short list and not nearly deep enough. Aish would be gobbled up at spat out as an AFL level inside mid. He looks to be a very gifted outside running type who links well and thinks on his feet. All the while we cant GET the bloody ball.
  2. or.........
  3. Am I the only one that would prefer someone else to Aish ? We've been seduced before into thinking we take the "prized one" Its as though we're assembling some collectors idea of a team. I want Bigger harder bodies. Happy enough ( in a fashion ) we have the Toump , but whos really going to argue the benefit a bigger stronger mid such as Wines would have provided. And yet here we are again with a very similar sort of choice. Do we get the silky skilled kid, who's DNA suggests he'll never be a solid sized ( read AFL ) player but a player of elite ability, skills etc etc etc ( where have we seen all this before ?? ) or the slightly more meat and 3 veg guy ( 3-hat variety though ) : still very very very good but not seen as polished ?? The reality is we will probably have a decent pick in next years draft also. Im all for a Freeman type this year and maybe look to the Aish type next year
  4. so ?? Michie most likely will go for a 3rd rounder. Savage will probably need something a bit better and As previously suggested Id happily hand over the Sylvia pick. After all youre then only effectively swapping Col for Shane.!! Wish we could have done that a few seasons ago If we stop thinking in terms of picks's valued being what everyone else suggests they are and look to the trading purely from a needs basis and deal accordingly we can be a very effective player. In reality picks are only what you want them to be. Michie, Savage, Cross...all getable . Sewell would be serious icing, not impossible !! My thoughts here are governed by the idea that this EOS other than maximising the value of pick 2 our real and prioity need is to bolster the miidfield. Its not a requirement ( absolute) to bolster further more our stocks of kids. We have years to do that and we still have some banked. Lets use this year to somehow forge something that resembles a AFL team.Do that first, refine and finesse it later
  5. wasnt it Lucas that had some things to say about us not so long ago ? (or someone else )
  6. Thanks Nasher i know its a bugger of a thing to do...servers...migrations..etc.....ah ...so glad its not me anymore
  7. Its a bit like playing Where the f is Carmen Miranda !!! lol
  8. You drive a hard bargain OD but youre very much a required member here and Im sure youd like to be a One Club man ??
  9. .......waving !!!!
  10. if hes coming home...he's ours Id think. Has Roos whispered well !!!
  11. I wouldnt. I really think we just have to be up front with ourselves and realise the only way we can beat some of these other clubs is to work to our needs and not to everyone elses valuations. We need established decent b or B+ types now. No point having a collection of draft picks that wont solve our current gaps. Id give up the sylvia compo for savage...Consider the swap...sylvia for savage .. notorious underachiever for a premiership clubs top 25 player ?
  12. I actually dont mind this line of thinking. There will always be kids coming along. Its more akin to panicking to think you have to take someone this year. Theres nothing that amazing about 2013. 2014 and 15 and 16 will all deliver potential players. what we need is to seriously bolster our mid stocks NOW. They dont need to be necessarily abetted by an A grade kid who might make it one day . 2-3 decent B graders will have far more effect right now. A kid who might be brilliant in 3 years time doesnt really add much to todays equation. We arent likely to contend September action for a few years yet. We have time to still recruit over the coming years. Kids wont advance us, mature bodies will.Kids are an icing for a cake we dont have. Lets get a cake first
  13. Did you actually read what was written before you decided on your little tirade ? Just curious as you havent seemed to refer to it, just Vlad. Which by the way is our little pet name..Its Vlad the Impaler. Hardly racist id have said. If you think your Darling Demetriou is without fault, good for you. Dont get too carried away with what you consider magnaminous generosity as its only done in a self serving manner in order to prop up his own interests. We simply are the recipient of the day. The AFL actually CANT send us anywhere.
  14. odd timing if nothing else probably nothing in it
  15. Please change the threads title.... its dinner time...nearly chucked !!! Ive no problem with those players coming over however
  16. Im not really of the thinking we missed out, we just decided not to go that path . Im only guesing I admit but I think thats how its panned out. Jacko's no mug.
  17. OD, what if we give you a 9 year contract. All the bananas you can use/eat ?? Are we in the ball park ?
  18. Yes, you can just bet another " oops the horse has already bolted but...." clause is about to be inserted into the Code according to Vlad. And so it should really. its quite absurd to have contracts beyond whats reasonably expected as the life of that players ability. if not knocked on its head it will just open the door to further abuse.
  19. I did joke elsewhere Hannebery and Dew for #2
  20. Well Buddy's been given the thumbs up so we might now see a bit more movement by some......might
  21. It beggars disbelief that anyone would actually go to the Ainters just now. They are seriously about 5 mins from their demise. We'll wave hello as we climb over them. roos cast his learned eye over us and decided we weren't that bad. Most would cast their eyes over the Saints and suggest they aren't that good !! Their fabric is torn and ripping. Still, what is, is. If players dont want to come , thats life. Those that do will enjoy the ride up.
  22. Congrats on your selection Dom. Th experience should prove invaluable. Soak it in
  23. Ironically that was the Neeld influence. This is the time of year the recruiters etc earn their dolleros. We watch and wait
  24. 2014...the Tier 1 trades have to fall first...then it all cascades from there. its a bit cat and mouse currently as well. I tend to agree as do others that there was definitely a "info gathering ' aspect to the #2 being put up. i have no doubt for the RIGHT trade it might happen but it does give you entry into the inner sanctums of some clubs thinking, an avenue that might not be there if we're only peddling the little picks.
  25. Would change our effectiveness remarkably, and very very quickly. I think this is the type of thing that dare i suggest BH refers to when commenting that we could move away from our past paltry efforts and actually start up the ladder and do so with a greatly expedited timetable as compared to some's thinking.
