  1. Occam's Razor. He's a WA boy... grew up in the sticks. City folk don't get it.. The call of your " home" can be real. If he just wanted money I'm sure his management would get it.. well a renegotiated amount. He just might not see a shiny future at Melbourne. Currently I struggle. It's his career. Hope he stays...   3. In some respects we won that flag despite Goodwin. Whilst kudos is given for being there the first indications that our game style was "gettable" well and truly appeared during that game. We were getting done over ... As I recall ( granted this is anecdotal as conveyed to me later ) after half time some decided to essentially abandon the official game plan which of course is a Defence at all cost style and threw caution to the wind and attacked. A group thought there was nothing to lose and could see the game slipping away. Score element just lifted.. gave 110% and just willed themselves at the ball with total disregard for standing orders. One small act after another changed our fortunes that day. Do yourselves a favour and rewatch the game from Half time. Our game , even now, exhibits major flaws. Some suggest these are the areas being 'ammended' . The Queen Mary turns quicker !! Our game plan fails the pub test. How we can't fix some basics of football quite frankly astounds me. Time and time again there are comments .. " if we'd only kicked straight ".. why don't we ??? This is no overnight discovery it's been symptomatic for seasons. That's someone's job.. and it's the job of others to oversee and mentor them so the outcome is delivered. I really have no idea what's being taught down front as nothing is manifestly obvious ( if even poorly executed ). As a hack I played forward.. a b-i-l played VFL( prior AFL ) as a forward.. neither of us can understand what Melbourne is trying to do 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ So if it's Richos job to make the Footy Dept humm... well .. all I hear is a horrendous din !! We need better

  5. It all reads like an episode of Yes Minister.. The new CEO arrives and once ensconced and starts peeling away the fabric of disguise starts to understand the nature of the Pup he's been sold. In a fit of pique he summons all dept heads to a meeting and outlines the intended 'changes' . As they all leave Guerra's 2ic approaches.... Appleby quietly confers ... " most impressive Sir... such actions would be very courageous " Appleby leaves with a wry knowing look of content. Guerra slumps on his desk in despair W T F did I do coming here !!!
  6. And do you really suppose either of the incoming is actually going to do ANYTHING remotely controversial in the first weeks ?? No... didn't think so. So effectively everyone is treading water going nowhere fast. By time the noobs are settled and know their way to the cheese counter and Shiraz cupboard the preseason will be well under way and we'll be essentially lumped with the same underachieving FD and all associates. We might strike lucky and someone leaves... maybe. Tell me how that doesn't happen. I'm up to being informed. Red, I genuinely feel your faith in the status quo is not warranted. The club is flailing and failing. Needs a huge clean out of the FD.. and as the .p. suggests Richardson can go. He's most definitely not part of any solution.

  8. Salem is now something of an enigma. To me he doesn't actually do a lot wrong... but somehow the pizazz he once had has faded. He used to be very good at setting up that 'next' movement. Now .. I'm not really sure , they don't seem to impact as much. 🤷‍♂️
  9. Another review ?.. the last one obviously failed. Believe it or ot i have Zilch emotion regarding the coach, football team and football department. My thinkings are essentially clinical. My background is pred Engineering. I tend to look at things very matter of factly. But this is somewhat moot as Goodwin will more than likely coach us in 26. Mores the pity.
  10. Hope that wasn't expensive...otherwise talk about burning money. You have to wonder what really was the brief. Results to date... ??? I suppose we have to wait till season's end. Apparently the results this year on top of recent which spell out T.. R ..E.. N.. D just aren't convincing enough. I hope we don't look back in Spike Milliganesque manner... if you know the Tombstone quote ... you'll understand.

  12. Even easier to do nothing. Why don't we do a lot of things that aren't particularly hard ? Why do other teams manage these things ? You're probably quite correct... it's not just the coach. He is part of it though. As to " it's coming along " ... sorry what league are you watching Red ? We're almost competitive for 1 or 2 quarters.. then the opposition adjusts. But ... easier to do nothing and wait.... wait... wait.. Eventually We're totally dead in the water.... if only we'd done something sooner. Let's waste another year... Well, we'll see at end of 26. Hope I'm wrong.
  13. Red... i do respect your views, your passion and i give a wink to your background. I know you're a reasoned person a dyed in the wool Dee. I'd have no intention of not honouring his contract. I'd simply pay him off in a negotiated settlement. Thats honourable is it not. I'd dispute its a waste of money as I rate TIME ahead of coin. The usable time we have with players is far more constrained than $$ Thats my opinion granted. I'd rather 'waste' money than talent. Culture is an interesting direction. I see us currently as impotent. The culture is that of accepting mediocrity as the norm. What exactly is the MFC when it fronts TWO CEOs to a Meeting. Seriously if that's not a joke then nothing is. Thats amateur hour whether you like it or not. I could give a rats whether players like him, want him or otherwise. His job is the Senior Coach. That's akin to a parent. Not their best bud !! All have a 'role' at a club. It's not supposed to be a 'good times social' as it ought to be a professional sports outfit who ALL adhere to a high echelon of standards ( and outputs ) Deals work both ways and contracts are such deals. When you fail to live up to what's required you are going to be replaced. Change in and of itself is not sufficient. Changing one stuffed tyre for another doesn't really accomplish much other than allowing you to say,well, 'i changed the tyre' !! Not all agree and I'm ok with that, but the results on the field ultimately reflect those in charge and most poignantly the one in charge of the others in charge ( so to speak ) If you're missing goals then someone needs to address techniques , skills and mindsets. All roads lead back to the HC .. can be no one else Game Style... that's the Coach. Abilities to carry out game plans .... initially assistants but what exactly is the HC doing if not overseeing them ? Selection. No one is EVER going to convince me the HC doesn't have the last word. Everyone else provides input... not decision. There is substance to the idea that better help might benefit. I think it's way past this. The deckchairs have been mucked around with considerably and a number of issues have presented. We don't have the best assistants and Goodwin is very slow to change. Worse still seems ineffective in getting change to work. This brings me back to Time. We don't have infinite time. We need to do things not only better than WE do currently but better than our competitors. In the vernacular were just playing catch-up-footy. ... but we're not. We're falling further and further behind. If we are to talk of honouring things. How about we honour the pact with those who barrack and support the MFC ? How about we do the very level best for them/us. Simon is but a cog in a machine. That cog is worn and slipping. You're not doing any favours to the ones who are owed the greatest by not fixing the problem. Sometimes problems cost money. Not a waste if you can get the machine working properly again I would think. Go Dees

  20. Hypothetical You're a player in a 'foreign' state playing in a team whose prospects aren't looking too flash. You're asked to play a role you don't particularly find uber satisfying . You're wind of interest from 'home'. You decide after talking with your manager to halt current proceedings til season's end . All hypothetical of course

  23. Not thinking he was alone. I'm somewhat surprised he wasn't ( surprised ) at being elevated when he was. That he was included to me was more puzzling that when omitted. He hasn't be 100% all year. He's a very reasoned chap . His outlook is generally grounded. Thats his shtick. Morris like a lot of other feral wannabe journos is just foraging in the bin ( his natural habitat ) All clubs keep tabs on players. Bit like "tomorrow the sun will come up and startle some" What might hold some curry in a sort of juxtapositional manner is Lever may have been a little surprised, but in a manner as I'm sure half of what Goodwin does may seem perplexing to many. Players no different in that regard.
  24. No DS9 they are your metrics. You can follow and understand in any shape or form that floats your boat. You don't however get to unequivocally foist your ideology on anyone else. We all go about this in a manner that works for the individual. That as such is life in general. Supporting a team need not be anything different. I don't ask others to be more critical. Doesn't worry me if some think theirs is a better outlook. We're individuals .... Jacko got that right Go Dees ( just better 😉 )
