  1. sober up folks, they have MORE cups than us. And we have done nothing of real note in the modern era . Getting whipped twice in GFs doesn't really amount to much. They ARE the reigning premiers. Give them credit for that. I don't like it but that's the reality. We need to change that .
  2. Green was more than capable as a fillin but he is far more potent as a winger midfielder. We just went and got 2-3 forwards so I'm thinking the club doesn't see the current set up as being all it might. Not denigrating Brad at all. If he is our next capt I want him all over not stuck in square. That's better suited to Beefier and taller bloke. I'm not sure which of Cook or Watts the club sees as the natural FF . Maybe Watts flanked by Howe and Petterd with Cook at HF. Time will tell
  3. Whilst Green filled a role up forward I dont necessarily see that as his realm
  4. Good to see us grab Troy. Very very handy lad . Will add another dimension to an already decent backline . Clever overlapping with view to our team in years to come. Hell keep some faster forwards very honest. He's sid and will only get stronger. Provides options . I'm sure Geelong would have liked him on their list . Bad luck we've got him great pick up
  5. A taller more athletic ver of legendary Robbo, add in defensive game with distinct second efforts !! Are we that clever, had others not noticed him ? Geez, going to be hard to know who to watch lol.
  6. I think this season with all our mucking around and post season interest in hale and others showed we were definitely short of the ideal setup.
  7. Yep the club was after talls. That what we needed. BP suggested the planets lined up. We were able to prettymuch get the guys they'd penciled in. Those weren't consolation selections they were our choices .
  8. Bp judging by his comparison of Howe to Robbo limes the idea of him(Howe) playing out of a pocket. Jurrah is best left with space. I don't se them competing for spot .
  9. over the last few years we've gone about building an engine. It will run all dY and in time will deliver silky dividends. Almost under the radar Melbourne have been building it's defence. Not quite the fortress (yet) but formidable and with moe games and now some top up inclusions ought to a concern for the visitors. But even with all this, Meatloafs supposition of life unfortunately doesn't extend to footy. 2 out of 3 IS bad!! If you aren't hammering the scoreboard it's all for nought. We have some potency but it's not the No Nonsense take no prisoners setup we've all yearned for. Cameos can't sustain in the long run . The lads needed help and that just came in spades last might at the draft. Another Taswegian jack-in-the-box in the form of Howe; what is in that water... ah yes.. Boags !!! Together with Cook will nicely round out options down the sharp end . Jeremy and Liam can fight it out as to whom jumps over the moon first. Focus of opposition defenders will now (in due course) become very stretched. Petterd and the likes of sooper swooper crumber Aussie will happily mop up . There will be no resting on laurels. Competition for a spot just went up two notches . Two out of three ain't bad but three out of three is better and what we need. BP et Co obviously saw it that way and went about plugging that hole. We now have a team, a complete team and one with quite some depth to cater to those inevitable injuries. The sharp end will take a little while to mesh but that engine now has the delivery vehicle it needed !! Doesnt look so shabby up the business end. A new era having begun now will get down to the job at hand, Premierships !! Roll on 2011, go Dees !!!
  10. Faith vindicated . Well done mfc fd. Got enough mids for now , more will come ; Viney etc . Was time to boost stocks of talks. Thats what we needed. And they were the best available at our picks. Simple really
  11. Well got two ... Sorta ! All a bit of fun . Welcome to the Dees guys
  12. what you say is essentially right. The AFL is looking to attract those two areas. But how youd go about it is quite different. travelling out along the Great Western Highway leads to strange lands. It is not the same ilk as those who have likely embraced , if only superficially ( and isnt that Sydney to a t...or S ..lol ) the Swans. were talking beamers v holdens. if you dont beleive me...ask Sydneysiders. true dinks
  13. why would it ? Didd our presence at the JO lead to that awful stadium ? No it didnt.
  14. The Swans and the Giants are two vastly different markets
  15. So, if we collect the most mid-fielders, do we win ??
  16. Tigers let pick out of the bag !!! OOOPS !!! lol ....wallies Conca likely draft pick 6. Adjust your ideas accordingly...lol
  17. To those that have nothing better to offer than feined laughter , youve obviously missed the idea of the thread. No one really expects to nail it. Youd need to be clairvoyent. It is a bit of fun. Try your hand instead of sniggering or return your hand to what it what doing !!!
  18. I agree that the market that theAFL now seeks to immerse itself in has hardly taken the Swans to their bosom. But they ( the west .) never were.. It's oil and water. The west would see the Swannies as top of the town toffs with nothing in common withe the pie and beer blue collar working west A home grown outfit will garner some sort of real following. It will be it's scale that will eventually deliver success or failure. The AFL has targeted this region for all the right reasons (as it sees it) It's whether the locals will take to it in any meaningful way is the question. Ironically you'd only need a p!ss poor attendance of 10000 to outstrip an NRL sillyball game. And that in a nutshell is a looming problem for the AFL in that for some reason newsouthers love to watch their kids in under agers at the local park but hardly watch a top level game in person. This is still an ongoing problem even at Swannies games... bums on seats!! More went when winning then abandoned them when they slipped. Very fickle crowd north of the Murray. Sheedy and co are doing a reasonable job of reinventing itself ( gws) in the hope something strikes a chord with the new neighborhood. The reality is until the Giants start combat for real we won't be able to gain any appreciation of the interest it generates.
  19. I do think it is prudent of the Giants/AFL to Immediately embrace the ACT . This may well prove the cleverest positioning with respect to this franchise . Vic teams playing Manuka only really provides a spectacle but GWS playing there offers those locals something to invest themselves in. That's smart leveraging . No need to convert them so much to footy, just to a team. I can see that happening .The Giants like GC need early success but I just sense a vastly differing abilty. Clayton has proven he has nous and genius when approaching the build of his charge . You get the impression there's real bricks and mortar about the Suns. I only get the idea of paper and wire regarding the Giants. it's all a facade, well seemingly.
  20. As far as season 2010 goes Webber must surely be seeinga lot of Red...and a lot of Bull !! He ought to walk across the road to the that other Red outfit.... something to do with a horse I beleive good luck..proved a lot of doubters wrong; myself included !
  21. btw 33 a pass at 53. That infers a PSd pick... whom ? as part of your foretelling that is
  22. Wombat : Eats Roots and Leaves ............ I thought that was the domain of the NRL ?
  23. Well one way or another its going to be quite intereting to watch how the great Western Sydney experiment pan out. Its so different from GC whom you expect to give serious curry out of the starters box. Giants ...well...might take a lot of coaxing. I do understand the WHY of going there. its a heartlan. its a tactical move. Its necessary as you couldnt leave it to reamin a stronghold unchallenged as that just serves the NRL. Its really a question of just how much of a drain on the rest of the competition in order to do so. GC will become competitive and seriously so in only a matter of years. its impossible to crytal ball GWS in any way as it is hard to hang a hat on anything to do with it. GC is substance whilst GWS is smoke and mirrors ( and seagulls...and martians !! ) There is of course the notion that the western Stdney of 20 years hence may be a very different beast from the WS of today and its entirely possible that the AFL might influence a grassroots change of culture. possible...but how likely ? 64, 64000 or even the 64 million dollar question begs an answer and none will be available save we all watch. All I can figure is the comp now has a new whipping boy !! Not a Giant...just a lumbering boofa of a boy
  24. hmm.. I hestitate about another Newton...lol Id be taking Darling ahead of Jacobs, but think another team will be tempted, poss GC just for the hell of it. 12 Gorringe 33 Lucas Cook 50 Alex Johnson 53 Troy Davis
  25. Correct. That is the 'as stated' commentary by the FD after last draft. It caused a little bit of consternation and well, not panic, but serious revisions on the fly as Tappy wasnt meant to be there. We're just lucky I guess.
