Yes and No. whilst our surrent situation is a vast improvement there are still some niggles and compromises. It was the previous board ( essentially 0 that got us directed towards Bubbledome and for that they ought to be commended. As too the current board for pushing it thorough and getting the deal we have. Ever since the notion of a Docklands venue surfaced it has piqued the interest of our club as it would be superior ( again ) to what we have now and locate allthe machinations of the club in one spot. Unlike previously we can now look at all these things with some degree of calm and theres no need to rush to any decisions. Whilst Bubble is good its not really quite 'ours' and a place like Western Park would all but be. Now all they would need to do is paint those columns of the bridge blue with red vees...perfect !!

To clarify my view in case some think its an assasination I like Barty. I like his application and that he can dig dwon and do the hard stuff. That he was a bit off the mark then reapplied himself shows great character and determination. But he lacks in certain areas and these areas are the ones that might hurt him 'long term' . A great defensive and close in game is marred by little in terms of a rebounding ability. So much starts these days off of the half back line that his 'dosposal' can hurt us. It turns what ought to be the start of an attack into a 50/50 'no-ones-too-sure' scenario. There are players now and for sure to come who have better offensive skills and if they can add a good negating defensive arrow to their quiver then they will usurp ol' Barty without doubt. The question then becomes will Bartram adapt and grow his decisions/disposal ability to add to hius already good defensive game QUICKER than some other adapt a defensive ability to a good attacking game ? The short answer is we just dont know. I think Bail ( like others ) has the real potential to devvelop such a role. In his hands something happens and one tends to feel confident about it. he has that dash , that entrpeneurial confidence with the pill. Then there are the up and coming tide of mids who might well apprentice their roles in the back arc. Bartram is good but thats not where we need to set the bar if we are to be serious flag contenders. Thats the tent of all this. Not that he isnt any good but that as a team we need to be better !!

Barty would , unfortunately , be high on the list of vulnerables for his position. In reality he only has half him game down pat and has shown over time his decisions are somewhat iffy. ( reminds me of someone else lol ) He does try and parts of his game have lifted but I can see that in all likelihood by seasons end he won't be in the best 22 and that will be his demise . You don't often learn footy smarts. You either have them or you don't. The AFL game exposes his flaws.

Junior jumpers haven't been particularly different other than size in the past . And if this Is the jumper I'll be passing on my thoughts to the club.
-
Condolences DH A bittersweet time . Very thoughtful of ingo. A very decent gesture. I trust your Mum to be resting peacefully now. Am sure she appreciates the seat too

I'm just going by the Jumper shown on the site under membership. Look at the 2011 junior jumper shown . It's NB. Got the emblem and very high yoke. It's NOT the china guernsey.
-
I'll preface with the acknowledgment that it's going to be a hard job really to come up with a new jumper. But I don't like the ones much and consider them much more an effort to stylize a brand than create a decent footy jumper. Both Freo and Port have learnt the lesson and looked to the roots of this game and now both have quite decent FOOTY jumpers . That Giants effort will date very quickly. the G is quite tacky. .. and bland. Yokes are very very footy. Even a charcoal jumper with orange yoke would look better. Yeah I know ... Maybe a bit too much lime ours lol. Still .. Looks more like a logo belonging on a locomotive than a football jumper for mine . Luckily not really our worry

Im not really a fan of this new jumper. dont like the yoke starting so high. Prefered it when it started lower under the arm with more red.Had, for me, more impact. Still, thats life.

about as Aussie as Lions and Tigers...but hey !! Australia can now claim a saint...but do we actually have a domestic Demon ? Hmm Bulldog theres an Australian breed for sure !! I happened to like wolves..you dont fair enough. I didnt use the Giants is American jibe....just dont think it rings with any authority.

maybe he didnt grassp the significance ?
-
Cant say im at all impressed.... very bland. I quite liked the other name that was bandied aboutout...WOLVES.. Western Sydney Wolves had a bit of a ring about it and dare I say a suggestion of a bit of mongrel !! Giants ?? No....as some others suggest rather lame. Colours and design ? Grey !!!,,,,,Grey !!!!!!! how non specific do you want to get ?? The orange isnt so bad. Hopefully all a ruse to trick us before the real name and colours are unveiled !!

Just noticed on one of the Melbourne pages an ad for a mob i wasnt aware had any dealings with the MFC. THis prompted me to check the Corporate partners page to see whos on our list of chums these days and was quite pleasantly surprised to see its grown a bit. This has to be good So from a bunch of leppers were forging a club whos association is now sought after. My, how things have changed !! Can only expect this to get better as success begets successful additions. Well done MFC

Melbourne appoints Trotter to Board "Melbourne Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Deloitte Victoria Managing Partner John Trotter to its Board of Directors." From strength to strength for the Demons
-
nope.....name's not Jack !!

Interesting to see some like-mindeds who share the notion it won't be so much individual breakouts but a team-lift. It's called synergy and can have a snowball effect. Even smallish improvements create greater belief. Players 'grow' a little taller, gain a yard, kicks hit targets and handbells become crisp and effective . Sort of like a tuned engine v rough one. Same engine !

I agree... he rolled the dice..and ...well... lol He has form holding this club to ransom and over inflating his worth. He got away with it the first time; how does it go .... Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me !! The club werent having any of it the second time !!
-
The real facts are much simpler. Bruce was OFFEREED a contract . He didn't take it up. Your suggested speculations are the facts and your 'facts' speculation. You want to embrace refreshing lists but not if that means churning anyone ? What we can deduce from the facts is that 1) Bruce wanted guarantees of some sort to be playing in 2012. 2) it was Bruces decision to leave as is his prerogative. You suggest these players aren't liabilities but if a player is affecting progress then that's exactly what they are. This is NOT social footy

Yep... Roll on 2011

Not sure how badly at all , these departures. Unfortunates: Junior, Robbo, Ooze...Whitey. Neeta went over -time ( in hindsight) There "comes a time"( so went the song ) ; Oh, this old world keeps spinning round It's a wonder tall trees ain't layin' down There comes a time. Times change and things have to change. Some may have thought their departure premature but hindsight is showing otherwise. To grow , you prune. Please keep in mind fellow Dees . Bruce decided to go. The club didnt sack or delist him. This lays squarely on his shoulders. He had a choice and made it. How fair those choices is determinable from your place or stance. The club had its view, the player has his. Without doubt when 'comes that time' there may be a bitter taste to a degree in the mouth but this is about the continual success and development of the club. The responsibility is the clubs for this. The ultimate responsibility for a players life is his own. I would suggest in the spirit of the OP that there are far more of these older players about the club , NOW, than there were before we got our act together. I sense it will only get better.
-
I know its not really in the spirit of the question but I can only answer it with one word: Melbourne The team will gel and really start to work. As DOF theres just too much talent. Melbourne , as a team , will be the breakout of 2011. Will surprise a few

22 games for youth or a final for 22 players?
beelzebub replied to old55's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nicely formulated as a topic there Old One of the better ones for a long whiles. What is the essence ? games in legs v finals experience with a side order of leadership ( from experience ) perhaps. Some have already spoken about the notion of whether the noted ingredients are mutually exclusive. Id agree they aren't. There seemed to be the idea that we are close to the 8 and therefor all things emanate from that. I dont concur quite so readily with this. With respect to season 2011 I put well and truly into the 8. Be that 6,7 or 8 matters not. I put us there. So i dont see any conflict or choice with regards to the ideas of puttiig more games into young legs and allowing the aura of finals to ensume the older ones . Both will happen To the notion of the hypothetical that there is a degradation of sorts coming from that there wont be the leadership of Junior and Bruce ? Other threads have covered this, but to summise; Macca as good as he was is replacable. The role of captain will be ably carried out by someone. And Im not questioning Bruces game here so much as any true and relevant leadership. If these qualities are more prevalent at times off the filed then again we have many to fill the breech. On field we have all seen the leadership of Green, Moloney, Grimes , Davey to name a few. They dont do it all the time but its there. Are we denying ourselves any natural progression up the ladder because of the older deletions ? No Will the vacancies better equip some youngsters through opportunity ? Yes Will we be playing finals footy in 2011 ? My wordy wordy...YES Id actually go as far as to say ( and no disrespect to any player here ) that the MFc will be far better next year for those that have left. You d have to suppose that as thats the reason the club has/is done what it has. When there is Oxygen players can breathe
