WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
- What the Opposition are Saying: Rd 02 vs Carlton
some quality posts on the ol' big footy... I'm feeling very confident about this game and this season. Look at the team. It's the best it has looked in a long while. I'm predicting a 38 point victory, Betts with 2, Martin 2, Harry 2 and Cunners one of the best on ground with 3. Cripps with a lazy 19 contested possessions and the Jones boy manic. Pittonet will break Maxies nose..... accidentally. May isn't that big, he's strong but he's "only" 193cm. Levi and Harry have him covered fairly comfortably. Luke Jackson also making his debut. I really hope we make a statement and get a bit aggressive with him. Give him a proper welcome to AFL footy. You just know Bennell is going to tear us to shreds. Not worried about Bennell, I loved him at the Suns, then he had all that time off and re-appeared for Freo and he looked like he was trying to play catch up on the ground. He has now had even more time off. Won’t be an issue. Looking forward to seeing a Carlton come out playing high tempo hard hitting footy. That mixed with the skill would see Melbourne blown away. aaaaaaand from talking carlton... I expect us to be much better. Martin, Docherty and Weitering already showing their impact. SPS too. The slow start and lack of intensity against the Tigers should have been the focus since then so I’ll be v disappointed if we don’t come out breathing fire. But I’d also expect the Demons to come out v hard - that’s their strength w Viney, Brayshaw & Oliver feeding off Gawn. If we can match their intensity, I think our skills and speed will lift us to victory. But without the intensity, we won’t be in the game. They call Shaun Burgoyne " Silk "................i reckon they will be calling Jack Martin " Grace " before his career is over.Poise, vision, composure and to top it off such a beautiful graceful player.Pretty to watch i reckon.............yeah, " Grace " it is. I am 100% confident that we will be significantly better this year. If nothing else, the addition of Martin and Docherty will make a huge difference. Not to mention the clear leap forward that Weitering looks to have made. And then there is the stuff that I hope will improve us: - SPS form looked great against the Tigers but can’t say yet whether that is something we can bank - Teague showed a lot last year - esp his ability to respond with tactical changes during a game. But he is no longer shiny and new. We will now get to see more of his game plan rather than tinkering with the existing plan as per last or just ‘freeing the players up’ as per last year. - We can bank on Walsh continuing his steady upward trajectory but we now need to see more from Dow and Fisher who have had a fair bit of senior exposure already; similar with big Harry and McGovern - And there is the unknown potential of Stocker, Philp, Newnes and TDK to look forward to.... hopefully! I’m not expecting much from Pittonet - I just hope that he competes hard, a la Nankervis to enable our mids to get to work. So, I don’t know how that places us against the Demons - I rate their list highly although I think their coaching has let them down. But I do expect us to play much better than we did last year.- CHANGES: Rd 02 vs Carlton

yeah, but he was only fit enough to play for a half at a time that second and third quarter against the crows one year was unbelievable he was completely out of puff in the last- 2008 Redrafted

i wouldn't even have nic nat at 4 personally in fact, of the ten listed at the top of the thread, he'd probably be 10th for me of that lot- Big Freeze 6 Going Ahead
sure was- MATCH SIM: Saturday 6th June 2020
well if he survives til the end of his contract at the end of 2022 then he'll have been in charge 'officially' for six years, but running the show for seven? that's the magic number for coaches it would seem - i seem to recall a stat that few after they've been in charge for seven years, with dimma hardwick capturing his first in his seventh season in charge- MATCH SIM: Saturday 6th June 2020

i love how cryptic the tweets can be this could be anything from an acl to a busted fingernail tune into 7news to find out more!- Kick it Clarry
i would think diesel kicked it a lot more in the last few years of his career when he was a forward target as much as he was a midfielder if you compare their careers: as opposed to at the same age:- MATCH SIM: Saturday 6th June 2020
if we have the majority of those folks in the mids as opposed to viney, oliver, petracca, brayshaw, harmes, langdon, tomlinson, and even jones we are in big trouble adding langdon and tomlinson plus replacing jones with trac along with harmes going back means our mid make-up is quite different automatically- MATCH SIM: Saturday 6th June 2020
one of my big worries re harmes was seen in the marc mcgowan twitter vids - instead of minding his man (fritsch, who had isolated him as a full forward) he went to the contest, which resulted in fritsch getting an easy mark and goal i am a big fan of harmes running thru the midfield as a run-with mid who can attacks and hits the scoreboard i can understand why they want to try him down back...i'm just not personally a fan of it as an option (but it seems like it's happening)- CHANGES: Rd 02 vs Carlton
tom boyd shoulda won a norm playing back up ruck and tall target- CHANGES: Rd 02 vs Carlton
seems like lockhart and smith are part of the back 7 plans, along with harmes, who presumably 'floats back' after starting outside the back 6? gives the blues are 'going small' with only mckay and casboult likely forwards, plus pittonet being relieved by the latter in ruck, it would seem that o mac would be the unlucky tall out UNLESS lever is crocked again B: Jetta - May - Smith HB: Salem - Lever - Hibberd ? Langdon - Petracca - Harmes HF: Jones - T Mac - Melksham F: Weideman - Fritsch - Pickett Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney I/c: Brayshaw - Tomlinson - Bennell - Lockhart Emerg: Jackson - Bedford - ANB - O Mac- MATCH SIM: Saturday 6th June 2020
brayshaw signed a long-term deal year before last, trac signed up prior to this season, and viney is an rfa at the end of this season the issue with trading one of these three - and for me it'd be brayshaw every day of the week cos i just don't rate him - is what you'll get back peptides with dodoro in charge would offer a third round pick; we'd probably end up with parish or lesser equivalent is brayshaw better than parish? arguably...you certainly wouldn't be looking to go anywhere near one of langford or laverde who are other types that the peppies fanatics often tout as their 'trade bait' - What the Opposition are Saying: Rd 02 vs Carlton
