2023 Injury List
There's every chance the absence of Oliver could make us more unpredictable through the middle and gives us some good results with a different mix that there isn't much film on. Obviously these things are usually short term sugar hits but if it's only a few games we need to do this for that it may work out well for us.

Why are we continuously being beaten in clearances?
I'd rather have an extra win right now than be the top scoring team just quietly..

Lachie Hunter Loses Bid To Overturn 1 Week Suspension
The more I watch it the more I see the pull up from Hunter. You can call it careless as much as you want but he has a right to contest the footy. I don't know what should happen but I'm fairly sure Buddy wouldn't have been rubbed out for this.

2023 Injury List
I would like to think we learned quite a bit from this one, more than we would have learned from the Hawthorn game.

It's almost like the ruthlessness has escaped this time in recent weeks. In 2021-22 you had Ed Langdon, not known as a physical player, backing into packs and going when it was his turn. Doing his bit for the team. You had Tom Mcdonald an endurance key forward not giving up on any contest and if he couldn't mark it he'd sometimes go for a forward's spoil with contact that would make defenders feel it. And if someone like Max was in any sort of trouble we'd be in their face in a flash. The overall level of physicality had raised about 5%. It just seems to be missing at the moment, it is something we can get back but I do agree we play our best when there's the unsociable element. It did remind me a bit of 2019 seeing the footage.

PODCAST: Rd 10 vs Yartapuulti
Last week I asked about our tackling pressure through the middle of the ground and I thought this week we were exposed in this area. The overall tackle stats were 75-72 the way of Port but I think the nature of the wet game and more overall tackles inflated our stats a bit. We were often faced with the issue of a running opposition midfielder getting through the middle far too easily without enough pressure or defensive ability to stop them in their tracks. What can we do? Do we need to get the mouthguards out at training this week? Do we need to setup differently when defending in transition? Appreciate the thoughts.

Why are we continuously being beaten in clearances?
Exactly and in games where the rain is pelting down why on earth do you want the perfect clearance? Bang it in there and get to work on the ground or get some repeat forward 50 stoppages. The number of times I'd see an imminent takeaway from us in the middle turn out to be Port's was mind boggling.

Why are we continuously being beaten in clearances?
Thank you. It became extremely apparent that this game was quickly becoming a 'scores from clearance' game, especially when we started doing well in the 3rd quarter. I love the fact that Goody has so much faith in his system but on this occasion it was counter intuitive to persist with giving Port a leg up at stoppage. We couldn't get anything happening in our intercept game, Lever, Gawn and Grundy had 1 mark between them to half time. The metrics couldn't have suggested any more that we needed to make adjustments. I know a lot of people called for us to sit someone on Butters but I think we could have nullified his impact by just leveling up some numbers at the stoppages, if a few more of his contested possessions were ours it could have been the difference.

Midfield ?
No excuses but a 6 day break followed by travel and a wet night can't be easy running.

Sometimes you need to go a little beyond the basic mechanics of the system. Not suggesting we do what Freo did a few weeks ago with Lobb but look at how Collingwood absolutely bit back when Nick Daicos was getting roughed up by the Swans.

West Coast really are pathetic. They need to make a big call.

Lachie Hunter Loses Bid To Overturn 1 Week Suspension
I'm glad to hear kids at junior footy are still taught to protect themselves. They way these incidents play out you'd think it was a dying art.

2023 Injury List
All unraveling so quickly if true. Find it so hard to believe he could run out a whole last quarter in the wet if it were that bad. If there was even the slighted tear this action would have ripped it off the bone.

Did anyone know the penalty for an interchange was a free kick and 50m penalty in the worst area on the ground possible?

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs Yartapuulti
It gets forgotten about once the final score is released. The fact that we were belted in nearly every metric we pride ourselves on and Port missing 60 set shots doesn't matter because hey we fought back and got within a kick. It's all sweet bro, galant effort! This game and the Brisbane game were maulings at the coalface. Contested ball, our 1-wood as the coach likes to say. These close results shouldn't be band aids over problems that are actually quite obvious.

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs Yartapuulti
I don't think I missed the point at all and that's precisely what I was suggesting with this post. We literally could not be more on the same page. It's the people that come on here and make people like you and I feel bad about complaining because 'it was only a 4 point loss" and we should be grateful that I'm talking about.
