I'm a Bate fan but his game against Hawthorn was about as bad as you can play. His game against Collinwood only marginally better. Adelaide - so so. Richmond, surely you would only say fair. Maybe my standards are too high but I want a premiership not cheap goals against the worst side in AFL history.
Not to mention the premiership clock he draws - I was always led to believe midnight was window wide open. Time for the irrelevant old fool to move on to bad TV commercials.
I never said this. I was happy for us to lose. My point is that you carp on about not rewarding bad management whilst the AFL happily rewards those who tank, including us. I'm not sure which is the lesser evil but I doubt it's Tanking. If Melbourne were in Richmond's position would you be singing the same tune. I doubt it. But off you go.
It's just a pity that North and Fitzroy weren't allowed to merge. It would of bought together two proud and passionate clubs and given Fitzroy supporters a chance to keep their hearts in the game. Shame on the AFL and shame on the other clubs for not demanding better treatment for one of their own.
For those of you calling for north to move north you either have very short memories or very small hearts or possibly both.
Rogue's post above sums up the situation well.
Wallace and Miller were the biggest disaster in Richmond's history. At a time when recruiting and nurturing juniors became the foremost weapon in football they were trawling the discard list for a way to make the 8. Maybe if they had set their aims higher we wouldn't be having this conversation. Personally I can't stand Richmond. However I would give them a prority pick ahead of GWS or GC in a heartbeat. Call me old fashioned but I'd much prefer to beat Richmond in a Final than either of the new teams.
As far as I'm concerned the tigers should be a protected species.
Then add Petterd, Watts, Blease, Strauss, Bennell, Jetta, Martin, Rivers, Maric, Gysberts, Tapscott, Wonaeamirri, Hopefully one of Spencer, Fitzpatrick or Gawn and it's no wonder the club is front ending contracts.
Thanks for the reminder
Not exactly. Bartram was bought in at the last minute to improve our matchups against a particular opponent. Where as Newton is being given a chance to be a key forward in a team currently lacking one. I feel Newton needs at least 2 more games. Unless he plays like he did last year against the Crows. If this were to occur the AFL should ban him for bringing the game into disrepute.
No harping on here but his mistake in the dying seconds cost us the match. Albeit one of four mistakes in the dying seconds that cost us the match.
Personally I thought he was ordinary on Saturday. Better than his first match which was truly awful.
I'd have him playing 2's until he dominates a game for Casey but I can't see them dropping him this week.
I'm well aware that he's underdone but he needs to play better than he has so far.
By the way I'm a fan of Bate's and see him playing in our Premiership sides in the future.
Out: Bate - you just can't serve that up 2 weeks running and stay in the team and I'm a fan.
In: Sylvia.
Personally I thought Bennell was good as a forward. I remember Morton's first game against Hawthorn and that moment of doubt. If Bennell doesn't learn from it then he has a problem. He doesn't strike me as "soft". I'd keep playing him but that's me.
