I got the gist of what you were saying, but you paint yourself into a corner when you make extreme statements such as "nobody gets it right" and by your own admission there is some value amongst the posts, you need to look hard for it. For a get one wrong, I can vaguely remember suggesting that Serhat Temel was worth a rookie pick, after I had seen him a couple of times. As far as draftees go I haven't had a lot to say on any I haven't seen. I was surprised that Tom Rockliff wasn't drafted until the rookie draft and very surprised that Josh Walker got through to Geelong as a rookie. I also rated Harley Bennell very highly and really liked Matthew Watson.

Trade period hasn't even started. Clubs haven't even come to the table yet. At this stage while there are discussions about targets etc, the actual cost of the trades is speculation. A lot of these reports male little sense and most will be shown to be crap. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES
jabberwocky replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
To assess the value of this bloke you would need to consider the reasons for his poor 2012 form. There are mentions of hand injuries, foreign roles and a general lack of confidence. We here are just guessing. If the reasons for his poor form in this year can be concluded and worked through then he is worthy of pick 13. There were quite a few games when I thought he out-performed Cloke in 2011 and 2010. We have Neeld and Brown who know him well, much better than any of us. He is a different type of KPF to Clark and could complement him well. Surely the pick 4 story is a furphy. -

Can't see how offfering a higher pick is going to convince a reluctant player. -
If you agree that with the OP "nobody" has anything worthwhile to say about the draft why then are you here?
-
Can take a speccy, can kick a goal, but one of those forwards who has too much down side. Lacks height and can't compete unless given a run at the footy, not quick and unable to exert defensive pressure and can be hurt the other way. Not what Neeld would be looking for, too one dimensional which is why despite his talent he struggles to get a game.

I get it. "Nobody gets things right" except you about Scully...and you went off his D/E stats in the carnival yet you mock those who form their opinion from videos. There are a few people who follow the TAC and I have done so myself at various times, not so much this year. And there are some posters here who are fairly learned when it comes to the potential draftees. Your point is however valid, though you make it with arrogance and a fair degree of hypocrisy.

I agree with the OP. Skills are ok, just needs to settle down and get the decision making right. Has speed strength, courage, speed and endurance. Durability is his drawback. With a solid season under his belt I am certain his decision making and vision would improve. Persist...

And like last time we have the $$ and the picks to get involved, if we have the inclination to do so.

I don't want to waste too much time on this one, but I would be all over Hannebery like a fat kid on a cupcake if there were any chance of landing him. The thought of having he and Viney leading our midfield for the next ten years...

This is going to be interesting and will potentially cause a logjam. If he is willing to move to Sydney, then you would think he would be willing to move to Melbourne? It could be a long couple of weeks.

We would do that in a heartbeat. 29 disposals in a GF at 21 years of age. We would be dreamin'

Dawes was clunking nearly everything 2 years ago.

I reckon we should pick him up with a rookie pick.

No...he said he was being considered but it was a matter of priorities and balance between youth and experience.

Trying to get q deal done for dawes..says its early days. Nominal interest in farren Ray. Byrnes recruited to fill need of a pact half forward.

I really wonder how interested we were/are? I am not sure that he is the sort of bloke that Neeld would want to pursue too hard.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SHANNON BYRNES
jabberwocky replied to Pates's topic in Melbourne Demons
I really hope that the increased responsibility he will take on at his new club will translate into good form. He is more than capable of playing smart and skilled footy. He is a great bloke and will add to immediately to the character of the playing group. Will be a better pick up than many think. -

No worries, who plays on Clark then. Have seen this guy play a few times, has ability, it may have been other things that have obstructed his ablility to make it at the next level and they may still exist.
