Stats mean a lot if you are questioning someones endeavour. Tackles, clearances, hard ball gets, possession total. If you are among the highest in these areas every week and you are still running hard enough to get possessions you are working hard. He is consistently good in these areas and I would suggest he would put Trav to shame on recent form. From memory his possession efficiency was 76% . Brock is however a Volvo and not a Porsche.
-
That's basically the same stat regurgitated 3 times re the kick ins. Hardly earth shattering stuff. We do need to sort it out. We need to give Wellman the same grace as Bailey and the rest of the coaching staff.
-
some dont have the ticker to wait for the rebuild and panic. fortunately our coach is showing a bit more nerve.
-
the bloke can play and will be around for some time. he is desperate, is teachable, shows leadership and gets the footy. he has had OP and he has had a bad run. shoulders can happen to anyone, especially ball players. Nah lets get rid of him for putting his body on the line for the MFC.
-
I think that he has really come on and would make a great leader. In the absence of Neitz and others he has really taken it upon himself to set an agressive tone. I would like the poor bugger to get through a season unscathed and show some consistency in his performances. If he can do this I am sure he will be given a position of leadership.
-
in the third quarter he was moved deep in the fwd line. three or four times he led out and tried to contest marks but looked confused and lost in his attempts. I think he could be a dangerous running player from the half forward or back flank. I don't think he will ever be a key forward or marking player He has been showing glimpses for a long time now but cant consisently produce. How long has he been on the list?

@#$% Jarka, we should all throw our hands in the air and go and support another club. We have absolutely nothing to look forward to. There are threads of intense optimism and some of intense pessimism. Somewhere in between lies the truth. We have some gifted, desperate and strong ball getters, a young and promising backline and some young forwards who show a bit that need a KPP to feed off and straighten them up. We need a KPP in the fwd line and some pacy flankers and wingmen. Our ruckmen need to develop or we need to recruit one. We need to develop a culture of excellence and uncompromising desperation. As for the reason for our stint at the bottom. It is a cycle. Mass retirements over the space of a few short years have forced us to blood young players. Jarka very few players walk into AFL footy ready to play at the level required, no 1 picks included. Most take a season or two to contibute consistently and a few more again to hit thier straps. See Geelong and Hawthorn. You cannot seriously expect MFC to be consistently winning with the kids on the park at the moment. Be realistic and stop attacking our midfield. Had we had a couple of players the calibre of Mclean and Jones a few years ago we might have challenged for a flag.

Are you serious? Are you a Melbourne man or have you been sent by our opponents to try to rob us of hope and destabilse us? We are rebuilding. 1. Cannot replace Neitz. A star full forward is great to have but not necessary to win a flag. Our forward line is progressing with the likees of Wona, Sylvia, Bate and the improvement of Miller. I look forward to seeing Maric and I believe a big part of the clubs focus over the next couple of years will be to recruit or develop a key forward. Admittedly this is a void that needs to be filled 2. See 1. 3. Cannot replace White. We have a number of young ruckmen at the club. They take time. Johnson will be a handy second ruck. Meesen may still make the grade. 4. Leadership. Moloney, Jones, Mcdonald. We are a young side with recent retirements. It is exciting to watch leaders rise up the ranks. Moloney has taken his game to another level. It is great to see new leaders emerge. They will be developed as the team does. 5. Midfield. They get the footy. I would rather have a strong ball getting midfield than a quick group of recievers. Make no mistake our midfield will become our greatest strength moving forward. We do need to look at injecting pacy players on the wings and half back line to complement Davey. 6. No Marquee player. Who cares? I want a team to be proud of. A premiership wouldnt go astray. 7. KPPs lack experience?????? WTF does that mean? The MFC should no longer allow KPPs to make thier debut as they don't have the necessary experience. 8. No depth. Agreed. We have had mass retirements and we are rebuilding. I dont really care what people think about the merits or otherwise previous recruiters. Time to get over it and look to the list for what we have and look to get what we need for the future. Success in the AFL is a cyclic thing. We are in the rebuilding phase and are bottom out. I only want to see improvement which will hopefully transfer into some wins mid next year. I have said before that I would rather be us than St Kilda. Dont sarcastically attack those who are attempting to be positive. They are looking at a bigger picture than you are. Far more productive to find plusses in the list than to put down others.

ah! remember the free. I was at the other end.

I was interested to see how Dunn would cope with a fwd marking role. They played him deep in the fwd line for part of the game and. I was sitting right behind the goals. On about four occasions he contested the ball in the air in the 50 and to me he looked at sea. I just dont think that overhead marking is caper unfortunately.

more like a teefbwush

Kudos. Pretty accurate assessment of the game. However don't know if you can pass judgement on Morton's kicking action. He had a bad day. I also thought Paul Johnson had a reasonable game but was on the cusp of having a really good day, had his taps gone to advantage and a couple of his marking attempts stuck. I didn't see the runner thing??
-
noticed that too. he actually got a lot of clean hitouts that landed straight into the arms of a pie. I would imagine that is something that they will have to work on with PJ and the onballers.

6. McLean Top game. got heaps of it, clearances, good decicions. 5. Jones Ditto Mclean. Becoming a good user and decision maker. Needs to play more games like this to take the next step. 5 tackles 4. Warnock A revelation. Suited to the big heavy forwards. Beat Cloke clearly 3. Wona Very creative and dangerous. Makes things happen 2. Garland Good game. Athletic, keeps pace with the quickest players and manages to get a spoil in most contests. Developing nicely 1. Bruce Seemed more desperate today and got heaps of it. Would have been higher bar from some poor decision making; esp handball and a shocker of a spilt mark.
-
Agree with most of the assessments on here though I reckon people are tough on jones. He got caught once from memory as he was kicking and his decision making and disposal looked great to me. i thought he was our 2nd best midfielder and was tough and creative.
-
me and my 2 sons will be there. 9.30 at fed square?
-
u have junior on the backflank and on the ball. otherwise i agree with the jobs
-
You asked the obvious question. What is your caper?!!! Are you a Melbourne supporter/member or sent from the filth to try and undermine us, cause derision and spread stupidity throughout the membership? Did Dimetriou send you???
-
umm, footy teams get beaten now and then.

whatever you want to call it, its not overated. spirit is an intangible that must dwell in a team for success. we have had it at times over the last decade. we need to build it again. You build on it every time a player performs an act of courage, or makes a good decision under pressure, or lays a great tackle or kicks an unbelievable goal. You see it time and time again. Teams lift, find another gear, become more courageous and instinctive and win games because of it. The great thing about building young teams in difficult times is that the strong survive and bond and the players are hungry because success isn't taken for granted. This is what we will see in the coming years. My hope is that the players, coaches and off fielders grasp this opportunity and entrench or reactivate the demon spirit. Amen

haven't been on here long but this is the most sensible post i have seen. absolutely spot on.

YZE_MAGIC and others about to have heart palpitations

This is both shocking and unbelievable. -
exactly my point. that is an uncompromising culture. he was told that going through the motions wasnt good enough and he has improved immeasurably. We need to create this culture at our club. Mistakes can be tolerated and need to be in a young team. Lack of discipline and effort must not be tolerated. NB: Trav wont win their B & F unless Black, Bradshaw and Brown get injured.
-
spot on. its all about developing an uncompromising team culture. if you dont do what is asked you dont get a game regardless of percieved talent.

Who will be out the door at seasons end?
jabberwocky replied to demonique's topic in Melbourne Demons
ffs he is 20yo in his second season. Plenty would want him but he is not going anywhere. He gets the hard footy. His foot skills are good when not under pressure which is most of the time. see the contested possessions bit. he is developing into a goalkicking midfielder. He is coming along beautifully. what club would want a strongly built, determined, clearance winner with good disposal, leadership ability, fit, goal kicking midfielder that has just turnrd 20. I know. The MFC. he is going nowhere
