  1. how do we recruit other than via the PSD or the draft? why would we trade so hard and pay so much money for warnock if we get nicknat even if he takes a year to develop. I doubt we will get both. in saying that the psd is full of players who are nqr you are obviously discounting warnock from this group. what about other very good uncontracted players who might fit this bill such as prismall. the way i see it if one of these very good uncontracted players became available we would need to make a decision which one to chase. If we got nicknat I would suggest we would have other priorities besides another ruckman ie KPP or pacy on baller. no good clogging up our list not to mention salary cap with ruckmen.
  2. I think the club will make a call at the end of the season to have a crack at warnock or select naitanui if we are in a position to do so. I personally would be happy to get nicknat particularly if we would have to pay so much and trade too hard for a second hand unproven ruckman. We could then concentrate on trying to nab prismall or other uncontracted players in the PSD. I don't know if Davey falls into this category.
  3. definitely Valenti. always in the best at Sandy.
  4. not necessarily. look at the swans. In terms of successful midfields, the Swans would be the ones we could most likely emulate. obviously we are missing the consisetncy across the park that the swans had.
  5. are you saying that he is worth 500k pa? I would be stunned if a 15 game player got that.
  6. there is no way that Warnock could demand anywhere near what White earns. Warnock is still largely unproven at AFL level.
  7. what the? tell him he's dreamin!
  8. what would be the cost? can we afford to do that?
  9. With what I have seen of Alwyn he is capable of being a very good follower and would play a differnt role to Aaron. Alwyn could be a real playmaker and would complement our in and under on-ballers. I rate Alwyn really highly. Maybe I have over-rated him but I see him as an emerging star and possible B and F winner. I think we should pull out all stops to get him.
  10. I would love to get both but I would prefer Davey. He was getting a lot more of the footy and really showing he could play. Davey is dangerous to an opposition. Warnock is a little more of an unknown. Alwyn on the ball and Aaron on the wing or f flank with nugget, brock and moloney feeding it out. This would be an on ball brigade that would be taken very seriously by any opposition.
  11. RR I maybe going out on a limb here but I believe that Alwyn would be much better suited to a midfield role. While Alwyn doesn't have the strings to his bow that Aaron has he is more involved in general play and gets to where the footy is more that Aaron. I agree with your point about Aaron's limited stamina and temperament. I see less flakiness and more agression in Alwyn. Alwyn tries to get involved in the game. They actually have quite a few differences and I see different roles for both of them. I think he could become a great first rover and I personally would love to see him at the club. He could be the on ball pace that we are crying out for. If I was to be really honest with myself and this may sound sacreligious, as much as I love Aaron and he can turn matches, I would prefer to have Alwyn in my side for his consistency and aggression.
  12. All 18 year olds are "project players". Very few kids can walk into AFL and just play. Some can do it for a few games or even half a seaon. Cale has had a few good games and I thought he showed pretty good skills in a few of his games. I am sure it is a mind thing. Like most young players when they feel that they belong at the level they become better and more consistent.
  13. you obviously didn't read the first post acknowledging his talent. And the argument about having to be pressured to perform which is spot on. It is not a ridiculous thread. Melbourne needs a culture change and studying what happens to players like him after they leave can help us elucidate the type of changes needed.
  14. I reckon it all depends on how much the other guys begin to rebound. It is great to have pure stoppers in your side but you need guys capable of being attacking as well.
  15. the more i see of valenti the more i like him. he is very creative, esp with his handball in close. reminds me of Sam Mitchell. Given some chances I think he will cut it. I like the look of Martin, looks pretty athletic for a big man, coughs it up a bit but I think he'll be OK.
  16. I am not one who bags players as a rule but Frawley has shown nothing to suggest he is a forward. I agree that we have nothing to lose trying things this year but I can't see that working. A key forward needs at least some of the following attributes 1. A leap 2. Speed off the mark 3. Sure Hands 4. Evasive skills 5. Goal sense 6. Strength 7. Skills I know that he is young but he has had a few games. I haven't really seen him do anything yet that ticks off any of these. Even when young players dont perform it is good to see them do something, whether it be show some strength in a pack, take a fly, show a bit of pace in a chase, evade a tackle etc to illustrate that the player has a future. I haven't seen anything from him or I haven't seen the right game/s. I sincerely hope I am wrong and the coaching staff obviously see something in him that I am yet to see. I would be interested to here from others who may have seen Frawley do some good stuff. What are his strengths?
  17. the pieces are a bong, pack of winnie blues, can of woodstock bourbon and nunchukas.
  18. what an interesting analogy. Dont go as far as I did and envisage Jimmy giving birth and breastfeeding quintuplets, one with the head of Steve O'Dwyer.
  19. Mate. You specifically asked for opinions and you got them. Many of those opinions were backed up with stats which you bagged out as irrelevant though you provided no evidence to support your point of view. They all happened to differ from your own. Then you accuse us of being one eyed and like filth supporters. Take a breath buddy and think things through.
  20. Yeah I agree, though I think one them could play off a flank. This could have a real stabilising effect on our backline and give it some much needed rebound. Its all well and good to play the kids but you need some experience back there to show them the way. If they are putting whelan out to pasture it is a bit too early for my reckoning. I hope he gets a game Sunday.
