My forward 7 for this game would be: JVR, Johnson, Melksham, Fullarton, K.Brown, Mentha, Chandler. Enough strength to mark the football. Enough pressure to keep it in. It may lack the smarts/ class but that has not worked. A different look. It cannot be any worse. Do it SIMON!

Clayton has [censored] many off, and whilst his standards have improved, the scars take time to heal. Christian has grown apart from the club. It seems he has different interests now to what he once did when he was close with his teammates. My two cents is that what happened with Gus has had a more profound impact on the entire club than we know. He was the glue that held the playing group together. A perfect team mate.

We did miss Windsor. We just don’t have any cut through speed without him. Without speed, you need sharp precise long kicking - today we had neither.

This is the flattest I’ve felt by a defeat since 2019 and that’s not because it was our worst performance (Freo away at Alice far worse) but because you just know it was the end of an era for some. Important we don’t overreact after one game, however, Goody has had this whole pre season to work on our shape moving forward and how we deliver into the forward half. It’s as bad as it ever was. The best sides (hawthorn, gws, Collingwood) link up with chain running, overlap and handball precision which creates space for the forwards to work and options for the midfielders to kick to. The outcome is you have your forwards split, and your smalls get to the fall. Right now, all teams have worked out if you let us have the forward half territory we happen to enjoy, it makes us easier to break when you transition back the other way. And so now it’s important we do something different. We cannot continue to keep drawing blood from this stone. The stone is completely dry. Over to you Goody - we know you can motivate but can you coach, can you innovate, can you teach these guys to see the field differently? My heart says no.

What’s happened to the Trent Rivers who was supposed to be our breakout midfielder this year? We can’t even attract any quality free agents because they know we’re a basket case due to the selfish actions of some our supposed leaders.

Woewodin as the direct replacement for Windsor won’t be the sub.

Had word this was completed for a two year contract extension around October of last year. I wonder what changed it's course. Hopefully it's official soon. Judd is brilliant and it's great to see him happy at the club and in Melbourne.

I believe we were at a point where Fox had some interest before being tapped up for a position at AFL HQ. We like Sam Graham at Brisbane. He may not be quite ready. McCartney may not have the commercial acumen. If Chippindall stays and works under him, that could suffice but i'm sure we require a more rounded Chief Executive Officer.

Unfortunately he’s played as many shockers as he has blinders. I’d look at moving him to the wing. His ball use is great and he simply can’t find enough of the footy deep right now.

Chandler will be in the starting 18. Has enough credits in the bank to forgo a poor pre-season game.

Needs a run at Casey? Spare me. The guy has played 2 practice games, 1 of those at a high level and the other on the road in 34 degree heat. Cal Twomey has picked Harvey to win the Rising Star. I rate his judgement of the incoming draft crops.

The issue with locking it inside the forward 80 is the game becomes a cluster and the forwards have no space to work in!

I’m far more pessimistic. I don’t see us having the running power of these fit Giants. In fact, I’ll rephrase that as we probably do have the running power but having Gawn as our bail out kick means we are loathe to use it and link up with handball like the Giants do. We should match them through the middle and then it becomes super important we don’t kick it on Taylor’s head. AJ, if we can get Taylor opposed to him and not JVR, would do a job in keeping Taylor accountable.
