Farewell Judd McVee
This is because it's bewildering. We plucked him from obscurity. He played under Freo's nose at East Freo and they did not want him. We put some great welfare around him to help him settle. We backed him in by playing him before time. His girlfriend plays in the AFLW and has no ties to Perth. We offered him a great contract in November last year. We provided flexibility in how he wanted that to look. We elevated him to the midfield and were looking to do so again before his hamstring injury. We again promised him of an attacking role last week. He has decided Freo is where he will be able to elevate his game. I think he may see himself as a level above what he is.

This is correct. It's never personal. Some you get right, some you get wrong and some you never choose to post. Jason Davenport from GWS was going to come in and head up development last off-season. Saad El Hawli we would take in the MSD. I'm sure Judd had signalled his intention to re-sign more than once or twice. He will be a big loss if he does leave. A smart player.

I told @Lucifers Hero that McVee was going to resign long before I posted this. To be clear, he informed the club of his intent to re-sign. He got injured and pushed this back. He intended to re-sign when he recaptured form but wasn’t happy with the role and some other things. His head was turned a little by the interest in him but things have settled and he is happy with King’s plans for him. You and I get our information from very different places.

Welcome to Demonland: Shane McAdam
Each playing is giving an individual fitness, mostly running, program during their exit meeting which is aimed at ensuring the player returns for pre season in the right shape. If they don’t, which we saw with McAdam pre Xmas 2024, they need to spend time seperate to the group doing running which is a set back. The opposite is Salem, who did far too many KM’s on an overseas trip and the club had to taper his involvement back to ensure no overload. All players have a direct line to Selwyn during their break, an assigned buddy to complete running with and a 50 odd page guide on how to approach an off season. Some players will rely on Selwyn heavily and others will seek their own fitness advisers.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Am I in the minority in saying that King should not be involved with Geelong? The minute you are appointed as coach of the Melbourne Football Club, Geelong and the other 16 teams are instantly a rival. Doing Geelong any form of favour is in contrast to the fiercely competitive elite clubs who don’t have room for niceties. See Sam Mitchell.

Farewell Judd McVee
Update: Despite west coast offering a nice deal and Adelaide having a look, McVee is going to resign on a two year deal. Spoke with King and Lamb. Assured of how it looks for him in 26. This is a key signing for King early days in his tenure.

With respect GW, I think but for Ardu and her sister, Kozzie would have definitely made a request to play in WA.

What does a running back look like in a Goodwin coached team? It was basically null and void since Hunt departed. Kicking backs are what we had. King promises a back half transition game and to encourage a little more risk. If that doesn’t suit Judd, nothing will. And as to the conversations, I’m told he was assured some midfield time.

Welcome to Demonland: Brody Mihocek
For two years, even if the cost is $1.5M, I believe it’s money well spent. His output is brilliant, despite currently being banged up. It takes the best KPD off JVR. Sets a standard in training.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Why was it only he and King were invited back for second interviews on Thursday and the decision ratified by the board Thursday night?
-
Sam Flanders
I think the appointment of King puts us in the picture more so than before.
-
Sam Flanders
Flanders is a midfielder who has been squeezed out by Rowell, Anderson, Davies, Miller and Humphries. He’s playing the high half forward role which we know is high running intensity for low possession return - see Tom Sparrow as an example. The question for list management is this - Can Flanders evolve into a high quality midfielder if given the opportunity? In 2024 he averaged 30.9 disposals per game at 80% efficiency. The 5th highest count for the league.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Our new King! A brilliant apprenticeship.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
We don’t know what we don’t know. Craig McRae was an assistant who bounced around clubs and he was found through an interview process to be the right guy for the Pies.

I agree with this from what I've heard about Kelly. Does the selection panel have the intestinal fortitude to select him knowing the scars we all bear from Neeld?

Training Ground?
The funding is all but secured with only a $30M gap that the club knows it can cover through wealthy benefactors like @Redleg

Buckley, Skipworth, Lade, Kelly, King & Giansircusa I believe. Montgomery, Leon Cameron, Cameron Bruce and Jarrad Schofield were spoken to but not proceeded with.

Melbourne Football Club - The CEO
The board approved higher levels of spending during the pandemic despite knowing it would come at a loss and therefore Guerra is a poorly performed CEO. The chair debunking it completely makes your point about this article spot on.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
The coaches responsibility at afl level is not to sore out a bunch of ****ebags. It is to create an environment where players see how they can individually improve. I don’t believe our players are inhereiting the former and neither should they be.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
I’m not entirely sure that King isn’t part of the process but I know the club were particularly enthused and interested in how Kelly had presented. Think McRae. It was different, it was positive. King has worked under Bevo, Chris Scott and coached his own team for a few weeks. To me he looked a brilliant candidate but there is something about Kelly.
