Not sure the Saints shafted us. I think we were given a heads up about what they were going to do.They need Frost more than us and far more than a 188cm forward. They were ready to either give a late pick to Swans or get him delisted meaning they would retain first pick in the PSD. Then they would have nabbed Frost in the PSD. Now they are committed to Membrey and we have the first live pick in the PSD. Hopefully that becomes useful. It may not but at least it is there for us. We effectively got Billy and Frost for 23 as we got pick 40 back and 53 as a bonus. The club may have already the decided the likely player we wanted to take with 23 will probably be there at 40 anyway. Frost can now start training with the boys and Mahoney said that is invaluable to a young player. As others said last year we lost Hannath in the PSD. We have our man.

It is going to be a big decision, because if McCartin is as good as touted, you have your 2 big forwards for the next 10 years. Then we probably only need another ruckman and more good mids if Frost and HL come up ok. Billy and Brayshaw might be two of those. A FA next year might be another. Lovett F/S next year possibly another and next year's draft and maybe a trade another. Then we have some who can improve already on the list. So the question becomes who is more vital to us.

If true, a deal could have netted us pick 4 and Frost. That would have meant 2,3,4 and 23 and Frost thrown in. Wow. We could have got McCartin plus our rumoured two mids, Brayshaw and Lever and someone at 23. Wonder what would have happened if that was offered at 10.00AM.

Interesting sideline. In the Sun they said the AFL Anti Doping Tribunal hearing the cases, will be chaired by David Grace QC. Doubt it, he is the players' Counsel.

Would imagine a plea deal coming up soon.

In our case over the last 8-10 years that is very true. Most of our early selections are either gone or not doing a lot. We seem to have had more success later in drafts.I am not sure why this is other than to select badly early on when the pressure is on to get it right. Later picks are more speculative with less expectation attached. I hope to god we get 2 & 3 right. If we take as suggested Brayshaw and Lever we need them to become very good footballers for us. I certainly have more faith now than I did with the previous recruiters. While Petracca seems to be universally accepted as the standout, so was Boyd last year, that bloke at GWS on the big money and others and so far they have been underwhelming. The beauty of it is we have a free run at who we want now and there should be no excuses.

And if we get too far ahead and want to even it up a bit we have Terlich and Grimes who can give it back to the opposition.

Howe and Fitzy as well.Now we have Jeffy to crumb all Dawes dropped marks too.

And as Mahoney said Frost can start training now and that is important for him.
