Don't scream but if JT is out for the season then we delist him and rookie him. He gets his money without pressure of a list spot. No one will take him before our last rookie pick as his salary would prohibit it. If someone wanted to give him a longer and better contract that would be great for JT and we would oblige. I think Evans could also be delisted and rookied on the same basis as JT. That then covers all draft and PSD picks and if we take a DFA we adjust our use of picks accordingly.

Teams have the choice of whether to participate in the pre-season draft; many clubs fill their playing roster at the national draft, and hence do not participate in the pre-season draft. Also, unlike the national draft, picks in the pre-season drafts cannot be traded between clubs.Players[edit]Historically, the pre-season draft has involved mostly recycled players. Until 2008, due to the standard players contract expiring at the end of November, players who did not wish to sign a new contract with their current club were forced to enter the pre-season draft if they were unable to be traded to another club during the trade week held prior to the national draft. There was no free agency in the AFL to allow uncontracted players to easily move clubs until after the 2012 season. Delisted players had the option of nominating for either the national or pre-season drafts. I think you are missing the point, Mahoney was saying Saints had an interest in trading for Frost and they had a slightly better pick. They have confirmed that. They weren't saying they would take him in the PSD, as they knew and we knew, they were taking Membrey. In other words if they did the deal with GWS for say 21, we would have lost him and then they would have got Membrey as well. They need a big defender more than us actually. That is why we jumped and also because he could train now and we then have first live pick in the PSD.

You could sum it up like this: we got Frost, 53 and Billy for 23 plus Frost can now begin training with us and we can target the first live pick in the PSD. Alternative was 300 pages on DL, over whether Saints go for Membrey or Frost in the PSD and no chance of enticing a good player to go into the PSD.
