While I support Taylor, I have this gnawing feeling, that Pickett could be another Dion Johnstone, while Kemp becomes a Fyfe/Cripps/Dangerfield type. If Kemp is what he is described as I would take him and look for a small forward with our last pick. A strong, tall, quick mid, is far more value imo, than a small forward and harder to come by.

Not sure if you are agreeing with me or disagreeing. I was pointing out to the poster that we can and have picked players who won’t play straight away.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KYSAIAH KROPINYERI PICKETT
Redleg replied to olisik's topic in Melbourne Demons
If it is true we are taking Pickett at 10, we won’t be doing any swap with Port for 12-18 as they could also want him. In another example of how badly compromised the draft is, Freo will take Henry, a better player than Pickett, at a much later pick, while we will have to use 10 to get Pickett. -
Never had one.
-
What will we talk about after the draft.
-
Only if we want him more than Jackson or anybody else.
-
You mean like taking Jesse Hogan at pick 2 who couldn’t play for a year and no that was before his back surgery injury.

Yes I have. That is my second mix up today. I guess I shouldn’t be drinking so much on the cruise I am on. -

Hope that puts to bed the rumour that Bennell and May don’t get on. -

Very possible. -
I can’t believe I mixed that up. The late great Greg “nightlife “ Korn was a star of the show.
-
He owned a bit of SEN so not broke.

I gave Finey his first break on radio, on a Sports Show I did with WJ and former Demon Trevor Korn and the Lawyer Steven Peak is a mate and partner in a racehorse with me. I had to push the dump button and erase several swear words from Finey. He did know his sport however.

I think you are now leading the most pessimistic poster on DL award. Have not seen one positive optimistic post yet.

Cody Weightman (Drafted by Western Bulldogs)
Redleg replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
So my suggestion yesterday that we might really want Green and we can get him, if GWS don’t match, could still happen. -
I blame the MFC for poor construction.
-
That would have to mean our target is not Jackson or Green unless we got an understanding from GWS that they would not take Jackson at 3. I think we would want another pick in teens plus 4 given what it means to GWS.
-
Geelong apparently want McAsey a key defender and need to move up a bit to ensure getting him.

Whatever happens on draft night, there is no doubt the AFL have added a new layer of intrigue to the draft, with pick swapping and matching. They have succeeded in keeping football front and centre of media sports coverage, not to mention launching fan sites into turbo charged overdrive. -

Let me throw a cat amongst the pigeons, hypothetically speaking. What if our real target is Green, with Jackson as our next choice. We let it be known that we want Jackson. GWS trade up to be able to get Green and another top 5 player, believing we will take Jackson. If GWS also rate Jackson above Green and we nominate Green they get one or the other but not the second player, if they match a Green bid. This could have given us the chance to get Green if he is our target. Could this be the case, or am I just looking for intrigue? -
Am I missing something. Didn’t Crows trade their pick 4? Why are we discussing what they will do before 8?

Picket, we need to consider why so many “experts “ are saying this kid is so special and could in fact now be rated at number 2. We need to consider why it is being suggested that if we nominate Green, GWS won’t match and will take Jackson. Are GWS recruiters idiots too? We need to consider why it has been stated that if Crows kept 4 and Jackson got to 4 they would take him. Are Crows recruiters idiots too? We need to consider that our recruiters would have looked at all the negatives, like DL’s have and despite them, feel that his positives outweigh those negatives easily. Also that they see him as a special talent, possibly rarely a chance to be attainable by us and good enough to bypass other more “safe” selections, like Green and Young. Further that they have conducted this process using experienced people over many months, maybe even years. We need to consider that maybe they see him solving our much needed extra key forward role and later developing as Max’s understudy, filling our most needed holes, other than small forward which is easier to fill with later picks or trades in the future. Lastly we need to consider that maybe Taylor and co know more about the potential draftees than we at DL do, highly unlikely of course but just maybe. -
