What is the effect of, or reason for, nominating a NGA player now?

I think you mean "not" allowed to match in point 1.

Wow, 2 picks in the upcoming draft. I can hardly contain my excitement and there is still over 2 weeks to go. Wonder if Uncle Bitter will be stocking up on wine casks to help get him through the 2 night draft marathon. It is riveting TV, waiting for Gill to come out and announce the names and then hear Shifter Sheehan say that every player drafted is a great footballer. Then the player is interviewed and they say how much they like their new club and are so happy to go to the other side of the country, ( until they return ) a couple of years later. Then the panel dissects every player picked. You can’t make this stuff up, no one would believe it. Then the 10 hours of draft TV are endlessly replayed in case you missed something. Gotta love it. Bring it on.

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
BBB has ruckman height and is a lovely long straight kick for goal and up until this season could draw a free kick each game. He is more a leading mark than a pack mark, but unfortunately his injury and Tom’s injury, together with Goody’s game plan, cruelled his season in 22. Hopefully, free of injury and with Tom/JVR in and Goody using him to his best advantage, will see him have another good season or two with us. If we take Jefferson, that would allow him a couple of years to develop, before needing to play him alongside JVR, who could then be our key forwards for the next period.

Training Ground?
We have already been left behind.

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
Everyone agrees we need another key forward and probably a Kozzie type too, but key forward is probably the main need. Therefore if Jefferson is available at our pick, unless we have a key forward coming next year or a much better player has slipped down the order, or we just like another available player more, it looks likely then we will go for him and give him a couple of years to develop. Tom, BBB and JVR will probably cover next year with Max also filling in for bursts. That could then resolve our key forwards for years to come.

Michael Hibberd & Jake Melksham - 1 Year Extensions
Both players were good footballers but " time waits for no man."

With a 5 man bench and/or med supp, we should be able to get Jake to 100 if Goodwin has that aim and early in the season.

I thought contracts could be done right up to final list declarations.

If we did that, no other team would interfere.

Michael Hibberd & Jake Melksham - 1 Year Extensions
14. Michael Hibberd. Age: 32 | Games: 185 | Status: Out of contract The veteran defender is one of two remaining Demons out of contract at the end of this year, but is expected to sign an extension for next season. Hibberd played 12 senior matches in 2022, missing the first half of the season with a calf issue. 18. Jake Melksham. Age: 31 | Games: 208 | Status: Out of contract The veteran forward was restricted to 11 senior games in 2022, but played the Demons’ last eight games of the season, including two finals. Also kicked four goals in Casey’s VFL flag win. Found himself in the headlines mid-year when he had to have surgery on his hand after his off-field altercation with Steven May. Out of contract but expected to sign an extension for next season. Herald Sun.

If they get that far, the AFLW Dees missed a home GF by 1 point, unless the Lions drop out. Daisy had the ball 30 out, with a few seconds to go and passed but it was intercepted. Considering the missed shots during their season, they are unlucky not to be the minor premiers. They played some great play on footy and are very well coached and drilled. Go girls and win that first flag.

My avatar of course is the great Sunline. Sat behind her jockey Greg Childs, at the Cox Plate and told him and he was chuffed she was remembered.
