Fair enough - but I still see merit in my idea. We've seen enough to know we have something special. Why take the risk?
-
I hear what you're saying, but goals change as unexpected results occur. We can all see we have some amazing players on the list, ready to match in with the big guns and ready to blossom. Why risk some horrible injury when as part of list management (rather than chat about delistings) we ice our assets? Bring in big, big bodies against Port and allow the others to have an early break and hit the protein bars and weights early. It's been a good discussion.
-
Doesn't mean anything. They will still have the same rest, they just come back earlier. Rest them now before the niggles manifest into long term injuries. E25, I don't know how old you are, or for how long you've followed this Club, but this is the most exciting list I've ever seen in my time. Ice them, let them rest, we're in for a fantastic five or six years.

Mad Monday is outdated and a societal menace. Can't debate without sarcasm or emoticons? Typical.

According to you. I see merit in my post. These boys know they can win. They've had a taste. They're getting ready. Two weeks off now will be real list management, as opposed to that other thread that's a hen peckin' party

There is no hope for finals' action this year, so let's ice the assets: to finish early - Scully Trengove McKenzie Jurrah (injured anyway?) Frawley (injured?) Bennell (tired) Watts (looks pummelled) Bail Bring in the big bodies for the next two weeks and let's all upgrade our membership fo 2011 to make sure we secure a GF ticket.

I think there's more involved here than just the coin.....
-
I brought this topic up and there's been some excellent debate. In some ways I've underestimated the passion these boys now have for this club - reminds me of the Northey years when it was 'us' against 'them' Can't wait for this week!!
-
True - so what message were the football department sending to all the players when they decided to rest picks 1 and 2 against the Cats? This club, under DB has always been about the bigger picture - saying that, it makes sense to pick a bigger team against Hawthorn, if you go by the precedent that has already been set.
-
I've been thinking about next week. Do we rest the young bodies (ala the FD's decision on Scully and Trengove V Geelong) or go for it? Hawthorn are a tough, physical side that go out of their way to injure and maim every time they lay a tackle or they're involved in a marking contest. Does it make sense to bring in hard, toughened bodies like Warnock, Miller, Moloney (walk up start, anyway) and Bate to take on the bigger Hawks? Rest Bennell, Watts Trengove and Scully? Should we look at the long term future rather than 3 weeks ahead? Thoughts?

Jaded beat me to it - excellent post.

I didn't think it was tooo bad - personally, I'd rather have Davey take the 3rd kick from the kick in, or 2nd so that he can lob or laser pass to a player charging forward. Under instruction, Garland is a booming kick (better than Rivers) and I suppose there's been some instruction to kick it long down the line and hope the crumbers are there. I hate the 'deadpocket' kick that goees nowhere, especially when you can't effect a switch in play. Still, the whole team is a work in progress....

It took 3-4 years to 'build' that backline. I think the forward line is still a couple of years away, but it's looking fresh, enigmatic and unpredictable. It'll happen.

That relentless attack on the ball in a desperate last quarter, with Brown coming at him was amazing....magnificent! He's had an amazing 6 six weeks, but tonight was all guts! Congratulations, Junk Dog.

This heart beats true for the red and blue

I like the white strip. Actually, I really don't care, as long as the team plays the toughest footy they can possibly muster against a team that will do anything for a win. -
Agree to disagree. When Read played his best footy, he made other players around him stand tall.
-
Yes, incredibly hard at the ball, but can cost easy goals. Still, like you, I'm a fan and he has the nastiness to really shake a few players. He reminds me of 'Filthy' Phil Read who played several damaging games of footy for the Club. Opposing players were very, very wary of this bloke and I think that Joel has forged this reputation for himself now.

Scully - top possessions in freo game

Nearly agree - I think Liam Jurrah is an absolute freak and will become extraordinary. -
A couple of ordinary decisions by the umps who seemed blind sided all day. Crowley and Pavlich's magnificent diving efforts - revisit the game and have a look at all that acting! The crowd unnerved the young fellas somewhat. Clumsy tackling (falling onto the back of diving, fainting footballers)

Sam is a very endearing young man with a great disposition. He is friendly, has a terrific laugh and his mates love him. Everything came too quickly to the 'Bleaser' and after that broken leg, he lost his way. He was depressed and started doubting himself and his ability. I would like to congratulate the club for their support of Sam. It would have been very, very, tough watching his close mates Gysberts and Watts play senior footy whilst he nursed that injured bone. Good luck, Sam, go for it!

Loved Shane Woewodin's game against the Cats that put us fourth? I think? Amazing ball magnet and I think he kicked some goals too. Lining up for a queue ticket after the prelim win against North with other supporters. Arriving at the 'G Monday morning at 4am to the smell of coffee, eggs and bacon to queue up for my tickets. Getting caught on Channel 7 camera (pulled a sickie) as they filmed down the line.... Great year.
-
He sounds (potentially) an excellent addition, but will he still be available once the Gold Coast have all their picks?
-
Why is Spencer left in? He costs games - if Newton did okay in the ruck at Casey, why not? At least he can kick and mark the bloody thing!! Worst case scenario, it'll be up to the 4 in the middle to shark Ryder's perceived advantage...
-
I'm not sure the Jake Spencer experiment worked. He is shocking. Nothing's changed with this bloke, just the date.
-
I haven't seen much at Casey, but the times I have, Spencer has been found wanting...will he make it?
