On THEAGE.COM.AU - link. Maybe 8 weeks.

Sounds to me like you should quit this board. Your comments are damning of yourself.

Not watching or listening. What jumpers are we wearing?

Just one small issue for me now - the breadcrumb navigation links on the top left are mostly unreadable - font colour & background are similar colours. Just need to get size and font colour sorted. Otherwise looking good!

That's it now! Black text on white background. With plenty of red & blue about the site The bright red text on bright blue? neither my monitor or I can cope with it.

Probably Bail, Cheney, Dunn & Johnson can be added to your list - they will need to have an impact this year. Not sure where their contracts are tho'.

Maybe you dudes need to start a new thread about Pettard? This thread's about training 2 days ago.

My understanding is that Grimes was highly rated by all clubs, but there was a big query about his fitness (back stress fractures etc). We were the most prepared to take the gamble. Fingers crossed.

This just confirms my earlier point; speculation about Harvey will not stop and will become more destabilising. As it happens, I don't rate Harvey, but he should get a 12 month extension. Otherwise the club will suffer. Without comparing Bailey to Harvey, the same applies at the MFC. Speculation is destabilising, and THE CLUB SUFFERS. Article link here: link

Using the data currently on the MFC site for senior list players (not rookies), and rounding to the nearest whole number, our ave ht is 188; ave wt is 85. You would expect these numbers to grow a bit, with young players still growing, and filling out. I think we will end up playing fairly tall.

Yes, of course. <sigh> Think: Daniher, Balme, Eade, Wallace, Connolly, ........... Most coaches finish up before the end of their contracts. A settlement is always negotiated. <sigh>
-
FWIW, i don't think a club should go into a season with the coach's contract finishing at the end of that season. Much too unsettling - plenty of examples. Give Bailey 1 yr extension - worst case, we have a poor year, and a settlement is made for him to move on end of 2010 - best case, we have a good year, and he gets an extra 2 years (til 2013) Either way, there is no destructive "contract talk". Regarding Johnstone trade: if Bailey gets the credit for that, he can have the credit (sic) for drafting Meeson for 3 years. Also on the debit side is Newton's 2 yr contract. Absolutely the dumbest thing I can remember seeing in AFL football, bar none. I was an extreme critic of Bailey early on (and justifiably so, I believe). But I have pulled my head in since. I remain to be convinced by Bailey, but nobody deserves to go into a season on the last year of a contract.

1 yr is plenty. 7 wins in 2 years does not, in itself, deserve more.

Anyone know if we have any players unsigned/yet to re-sign?
-
My understanding is that Ball, or his management have told other clubs that he will go overseas if they pick him. Risks a ban and draft-tampering allegation I believe. My sources are good, but not primary. Oh, and MFC will not be picking him.
-
Agreed. And about the $500K, $500K and $75K he wants respectively for 3 years. This equates to about $350k per yr on average, and is nicely front end weighted. We are reportedly $500k shy of the 92.5% minimum SC. So Ball's $500K would fix that up nicely, and he would be headed to $75K just as we would need to up the $'s for our developing youth. Hmmmmm
-
He might have a great year, or a poor one. Doesn't matter to us. He had the chance to name his own $s, and get to the MFC in the PSD. He has chosen not to. And before I get the "he is a professional who will play anywhere" line, the saints can draft him too. Bet they won't BECAUSE HE DOESN'T WANT TO PLAY THERE. Simple really.
-
Wonder what price he is putting on his head, and how many years? Having said tha, he could have almost named his own price at MFC. He has chosen not to. End of story for mine. Could be very interesting. A first for a 'name' player in the ND (with no obvious go to/selection tabled)?
-
Meeson can be put on the long term injury list, to the same effect. Newton just has to be hidden til his contract runs out -> mature rookie. Ed: Newton might be too young to be "mature rookied". Go figure - he's been on our list for 5 yrs.

A champion junior player who turned into an absolute [censored]. Coupla weeks training with the club will help with determining the latter. Morton2Watts quote from the Hun is more interesting for the comments about Dawson (and thus the Hawks). Could it be their radar is not working, or is very blinkered?

Could be. Thorp will be training with us. Link

Taking Bruce & McDonald off the vet list will fix up a fair bit of the $500k. And give us 2 more rookies. Ed: Just realised, it would take our main list back to 38 ie only 3 picks
