Time to scrutinise Alan Richardson
I shared my IT office with Ricoh(sic) for 4 months, 25 years ago while he ran an upgrade of 8 story building including all trades and planning of both personnel and offices that meant our business never suffered downtime. I was very impressed. Alan Richardson is no light weight. Deep thinker, consultitive and generous in his dealings with others. Some may find that this is his major failing. Before jumping to uninformed conclusions and looking for scapegoats, try to do some research. For a little insight, watch the the ABC's "I was actually there that day" about Nicky Winmar when the Saints got up at Vic Park amongst immense racism as Winmar ran riot. No one from the Pies wanted to speak about it except for a fan or 2. Richo played on Nicky and came on the show to recollect the day although he was comprehensively beaten and he never uttered a word against him. Not a light weight.

GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast
Bring in Lever? Did you miss the VFL match today? Im seriously thinking Lever is a worse kick than Dom Tyson. Sorry nearly as bad, Dom was such a shocker.

Training Ground?
If Elstenwick Park Oval 1 is now free from VFA Duties, since according to reports, Waverley Park is to take over the Umpires training and associated duties, then it in my mind becomes available for discussion as a home base for us. I did give up arguing against the usual Naysayers years ago but it now really needs consideration. The oval is large and there is a second oval on St Kilda St that I admit has many games on it, but booking it for 9-4pm it seems largely free . But the main oval is just not used much. It can be locked, is close to all forms of transport but has claims from Match of the Day VFA, some cricket and the Umpires. If Punt Rd is big enough then Elsternwick Park is bigger, wider and close.

Training Ground?
Having been slightly involved when Elsternwick Golf Course was given back to Council for use as passive open space on 1 July 2018, I believe that all 3 tiers of government will not allow public space to be used exclusively by a sporting club. Although Id have preferred it to be dog friendly(off leash) the outcome was much better than a golf driving range owned by coucil but run as a sperate concern. Then one half of the rest of the park was being pushed by one (not-so) local club into a having a fenced oval with training rooms, for the sudden creation of AFLW teams which would have impinged dog walkers as well. I watched this one with interest but didnt take a side. Again because it was seen as taking public space away the dog walkers won. Ive met a few dog walkers who also walk inside caulfield track and they feel assured no sporting ground will be allowed in the middle of the park if it has a fenced oval. I believe they are right unfortunately. I hope they are wrong.

Time to go Goody?
There are many intrinsic factors to winning when the sides are very even, with some areas better in each team. The highly skilled insight by Jeff White a month ago illistrated this. Then there are training drills that players need to be taught to perform as instinct. Im not a coach but Im sure other teams would do this. It drives me nuts as kicking was my one wood and I watch others at my circle work we old fartts do twice weekly for 30 years. I hate rabbits that screw up a kick and by the time youve retrieved it they are screaming for a handball. Bear with me: Kicking low and hard down a corridor from a standing start. 30 metres under a 4 metre ceiling? At least Id say. More likely 3 metres. Try aiming at an open bin with its lid up, it is harder than aiming at a person. aiming at goal is not aiming at a person and is much harder. Looking for a handball instead of a kick around the corner, shows confidence in team mates. Some players only have one other version than straightahead of them. Viney (Left hand over right shoulder), Clarrie, left or right but too often kick over the shoulder on the boundary, never HB low, along the line or behind. Tracc always is confident with his disposal. WTF? How fast can you run and deliver accurately and low? Rivers can run but hoofs it. Can he learn to slow a step and deliver? Players need to know their limits. Can you change kick direction at last minute? You should! I dont play golf but have seen the side on videos of the swing. Some players foot arc means they should change their drop depending on age, injury and speed. I found as I got older, if i kicked the very bottom of the ball at half speed (pretty slow!) I could keep it low. Cant do it at speed, thats when a HB is probably better. Kicking the lower third is correct most ot the time but not always. If its a mark or free then there is no excuse to put it on someones head or in a pack. If you eyeball your target you should be able to get his correct side and the ball should be spinning correctly, doesnt sound a big deal but it should be drilled into players. Im sorry if this seems footy 101 and all drafted players have these skills already. i see other teams use the above and wonder why Choco is our kicking coach. i wouldnt get him to tie my tie. Rant over. fight me.

PREGAME: Rd 11 vs Sydney
I'm surprised this isn't well known. The centre square is 50m by 50m. That's a policy. The 50m arc is a guideline. I believe it is under 45m at SCG. As I tell newbies at work a policy is just a posted guideline that has been laminated.
