I can announce that mo64 has cracked the puzzle and takes home all the HONOUR. Well played to him. Another poster has suggested a cricket connection, but there is none. In addition to the first clue being that there is no football connection, I will also make things a bit easier by revealing that you may find it helpful to read the OP very carefully.

A few responses have been coming in, alas all incorrect. We can eliminate all the players having Irish ancestry, sharing a surname with those who have won military honours and those who have either played in premiership or been All Australian. Nor were all the players born or started their careers outside Melbourne. The answer also has nothing to do with all the "E's" in the title. First clue to be dropped around 6pm. I did forewarn that this was a particularly devious teaser!

If Jacko wants to go to Fremantle, I'd be asking their trading guy for a suitably high pick. If he refuses, we could then respond with "Don't be a cad, man". Of course, that risks being banned from the draft under the Appalling Dad Joke rule.

Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends. Or, in the words of the immortal Keith Richards, "It's good to be here. Hey, it's good to be anywhere". Another team with a common link for you to chew over, spit out an answer or possibly surrender to your gag reflex. Today's side is a well-balanced combination of predominantly former players who would have been hard to beat in their collective prime. Where possible, they have been named in their usual playing positions. No fewer than nine Demons have made the cut. Let me know by PM only if you think you know what they have in common. Incorrect responses may be shared by me to reduce the field of possibilities. Given financial restraints, today's prizes will be the priceless commodities of Honour, Glory and Kudos. B: Peter Walsh Danny Frawley Shane O'Bree H/B: James Frawley Neil Roberts Brett Allison C: Rodney Eade Nathan Buckley Brian Peake H/F: Tony Elshaugh Wayne Carey Brock McLean F: Peter Keenan Gordon Coventry Simon Minton-Connell R: Steve O'Dwyer Brian Royal Greg Healy I/C: Oskar Baker Ian Rickman Michael Newton Ian Dunstan

Reports indicate that we won but could have prevailed by more had we not eased off in the last half.

I think Adem Yze is @picket fence! Every sentence! Has an exclamation mark! Without exception!
-
The topic title wasn't "Let's have a whinge about all the Geelong players in the AA Team".
-
Gosh. So many posters complaining so much about something that ultimately means so little. We're here to win back to back premierships. The rest is just a sideshow.

2016 I believe. I was there at the draw in 1977 with my Collingwood supporting dad and two North supporting brothers. It was the weirdest feeling and nobody knew what to do or how to feel. Despite my long held opposition to the idea, I now support the idea of extra time. Had the rule been in place in 2010, a fast finishing St Kilda may well have denied Collingwood the flag.

The loser gets another chance the following week in the semis.

There wouldn't be a second week. All drawn finals go to extra time now, including the GF.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
Demonstone replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Given that eating humble pie means the same as eating crow, I'd suggest a dollop of this. -
No joke intended FD. Petty is relatively unrecognised by the football public at this stage but that is changing. On the other hand, opposition clubs would be well aware of his talent.
-
Petty may have flown under the radar of your average random footy fan, but I bet opposition coaches rate him.
-
They could move to Canberra and still call themselves GWS. Being the home of politics, it would stand for Grifters, Windbags and Shysters.
-
Nobody cares nor remembers who finishes on top of the ladder at the end of the H & A season. Everybody remembers who won the premiership.

Demonstone's Tiresome & Torturous Tuesday Timewaster
Demonstone replied to Demonstone's topic in Melbourne Demons
Let's say around 4pm on Thursday arvo then, at a time we're usually looking forward to team selection. I've come up with a particularly devious teaser and I look forward to baffling/exasperating all contributors. -
I'm just trying to sort the facts from the BS here, mate. The football club have never owned the stadium contrary to your claim. We can all agree that Geelong get a leg up from training and playing (lesser teams) on their home ground.
-
You've cited nothing to support your memory of what happened. The footy club don't own the stadium. As far as funding goes, check the link I posted. The City of Geelong has also tipped in. You're correct when you say other parties haven't contributed as much as the Government, but the money hasn't just come from one source.
-
His father Terry played for Footscray but I don't know if his kids did the usual thing of barracking for his old club.
-
SWYL, I fully understand and share your utter dislike for Geelong Football Club. However, can you cite any evidence that they own the Kardinia Park ground? You'll also find that the AFL and GFC helped fund the redevelopment and it's not just all Government money.
-
The football club doesn't actually own the stadium, SWYL. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardinia_Park_(stadium)

That rules him out then as North have an affinity with such fowl creatures. Who remembers Boris the Chicken from 2009? The video is on YouTube if you dare. Warning: It's not family viewing!

Demonstone's Tiresome & Torturous Tuesday Timewaster
Demonstone replied to Demonstone's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thank you for the support. I do have a couple up my sleeve and was planning on unleashing the first of those this week. What are Demonlanders' preferences - Tuesday afternoon, Thursday afternoon or Sunday afternoon?
