Max Walker - Demon footballer and Test Cricketer
Demonstone replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I had the pleasure of hearing Max talk at a Sportsman's Night (remember those?) on one occasion circa 1980 and he was a very funny and engaging speaker. He described his unusual bowling action as "right arm over left earhole". Max also related the (almost certainly apocryphal) tale of the Aussies on tour in England where they were enjoying an evening in a rustic pub when they heard Rod Marsh yelling out for help from the outside dunny. He claimed that, whenever he tried to get off the loo, somebody kept grabbing and squeezing his private parts. Turns out that he was sitting on a mop bucket. The punchline brought the house down, as they say.- 24 replies

Part 4: Jason Taylor - Visionary or Over-rated - 2016
Demonstone replied to Deespicable's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm enjoying this series, @Deespicable. Thanks for making the effort and doing the research. I have a minor question: Is Jason Taylor's nickname actually "Tubby" or is that just what you call him? -
It's very likely to deter gent.
-
It was actually his penultimate, a punt performed perfectly with purpose, poise and pinpoint precision.

Pfffft. I just finished a 50-piece jigsaw puzzle in only three days. On the box it said "5 to 7 years".

Does anybody have any vision of that incident? I know that Bomber fans are ropable about it. I initially thought that Turner stumbled over a prone Draper and made accidental contact with his head and expected an Essendon free kick, but I think Draper may have then raised his hand and grabbed Disco by the foot/ankle and was penalised for a trip.

Ryan: Can I yell out that umpire Williamson has a stupid haircut? Security: No, we won't allow that. Ryan: Can I think that umpire Williamson has a stupid haircut? Security: You can think whatever you like. Ryan: Hey Williamson! I think you have a stupid haircut!

What's baffling is why you continue to keep picking at this scab. We get it. You don't agree with the decision to draft Kentfield. No need to make the same post over and over again in multiple threads.

From a media report on the evening of 28th September 2024: "Melbourne took Sydney by surprise with the unexpected late inclusion of Christian Petracca, who spent the entire game in the goal square and whose match winning ten goals earned him a second Norm Smith Medal."

Plenty of nuffies around. This is your post after last year's finals loss to Carlton. ...If McDonald ever pulls on a dees jumper again I'll eat my fist... How's that typing with one hand working out for you?

Collingwood lose, Carlton lose, Essendon lose and the mighty Demons WIN! It's the quintessential quadrella of quality. Woo hoo!

I'm starting to doubt whether even Tom Fullarton's own mother knows how to spell his name correctly. You'd think his own footy club might get it right sooner or later.

LATE CALL: CAM PEDERSEN WAS A MARVEL
Demonstone replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Inconsistent spell check, too. At various points his name appears as Pedersen (correct), Petersen and Pederson. -
Demonstone's YACK (Yet Another Cryptic Kerfuffle)
Demonstone replied to Demonstone's topic in Melbourne Demons
Special mention to @buck_nekkid who went with Brent Moloney for this one as a match for Bitzer Maloney from the Hairy Maclary series of books. It deserves its own virtual prize. -
Demonstone's YACK (Yet Another Cryptic Kerfuffle)
Demonstone replied to Demonstone's topic in Melbourne Demons
Some more suggestions have been received, but none correct unfortunately. The other answers are as follows: 3. Marcus Seecamp. This was rather tricky and a little obtuse. "Grasp" in this case has the meaning of see (eg. I see, I understand) and "Wing" refers to a group of people (eg. "I'm in the Rolling Stones camp, not The Beatles" or "He's in the conservative camp when it comes to politics") 4. Daniel Cross. A bit more straightforward. Mongrel is another word for a mixed breed or a crossbreed. Thanks to all who participated or just read the thread. There are still a few of @Little Goffy's posers to be solved. -
Is his brother nicknamed "Nightclub" by any chance?

Demonstone's YACK (Yet Another Cryptic Kerfuffle)
Demonstone replied to Demonstone's topic in Melbourne Demons
The remaining clues (3 and 4) have both been solved by @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew who is officially crowned Cryptic Champion of The Colony. I'll leave the quiz up overnight and reveal the last two answers in the morning if there are no further takers. -
Demonstone's YACK (Yet Another Cryptic Kerfuffle)
Demonstone replied to Demonstone's topic in Melbourne Demons
The clues have helped! Although previously solved by @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew, the official kudos goes to @Lucifers Hero who supplied the correct answer just one minute before @buck_nekkid also cracked it. 6. Ed Langdon (Fritz Lang, legendary film director/producer plus Bomber = don) -

Another clue: one of the three is a current player. -
You come across as perpetually enraged, which is your right of course.

A little clue for my remaining three? All started their career at other clubs. -
That appears to be your default setting, Billy.

Three to go, thrillseekers - numbers 3, 4 and 6 still to be solved. @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew got 3 and 6 but had already fulfilled his quota of two correct answers per poster. Still haven't heard from regulars like @Lucifers Hero, @WalkingCivilWar, @Jumping Jack Clennett or @Mazer Rackham -
I'm quite Fonda jokes like this.
