  1. The key to this particular thread is what it's not about!. Normally I'd suggest that reading the title would be helpful, but that's been changed umpteen times.
  2. It's easy to be 'bullish' about Tappy. He's an old-fashioned, hard at it, show no fear footballer, and he made a very good start to his career in what was effectively his first year. I'm really looking forward to him getting a full pre-season under his belt under the eye of our new fitness staff. Improved endurance and a bit more acceleration, combined with his strength and penetrating kicking, could make him a ripper. It will be fascinating to see what role Mark Neeld has in mind for him.
  3. At the start of the year I regarded 2011 as a 'make or break' year for Marto. Well he made it with flying colours, and was clearly our most improved player. His greatly improved skills, speed and mobility, multiple efforts, and his emerging versatility, made him a valuable team asset, ideally suited to the new interchange rules. He still has some way to go in areas such as pack marking and goal kicking, but given that he has only been playing the game for a relatively short time, further improvement is a realistic expectation imo. Well done Stef.
  4. Spot on Old Dee.
  5. I don't think we are that far apart old fella ..... I agree with all but your second sentence, and even there I'm giving Aussie the benefit of the doubt (which I think he deserves). Edit: grammar
  6. Sadly for Aussie, 2011 has been a year from Hell. When he is really up an going he brings a touch of magic and excitement to our team, and a small forward role beckons in 2012 if he wants it badly enough. He somehow needs to put 2011 behind him, and have a huge pre-season to get his body and mind right for the AFL. I expect the Club will give him plenty of time (perhaps on the Rookie List), and continue to support him in every reasonable way. The rest will be up to Aussie. I really hope he makes it, for the sake of his late Dad, his Tiwi community, and all Dees fans.
  7. The mid to late 60s was a great era for Australian groups. Bobby & Laurie, The Twilights, Ray Brown & the Whispers, MPD Ltd., Billy Thorp & the Aztecs, the Eazybeats ....... loved 'em all. You were nobody if you didn't go to a disco on Saturday night. No night footy back then, of course.
  8. A very honest footballer who always got the best out of himself and gave his all for the team. He is certain to make the most of his new opportunity, and will add considerable value to the GC line-up at this stage of their development. Good luck Matty.
  9. I agree that Spencer has slipped a long way in the pecking order with the progress of Martin and Gawn in 2011 and the recruitment of Clark. However, had he not done his ACL, he would have been the front-runner to replace Jamar when he was injured mid-season. Them's the breaks in footy I guess, and with our present ruck stocks, it indeed seems unlikely that he will play senior football for the Dees again. None-the-less we have invested a lot of time and effort into his development, and this was starting to show before he was injured. If he can get his knee right by the middle of next year, and play some decent footy for Casey in the second half of 2012, I reckon he's likely to have some trade value come this time next year.
  10. Can we get Cale in for a pre-season transplant? Edit: Sorry Cale.
  11. Or reverse the numbers maybe. If we are talking loyalty, you would never find a greater contrast than Jordie vs. the other one!
  12. Of course we can OD! Just keep repeating: ....... of course we can! ...... of course we can! Just like the Little Red Engine that finally got to the top of the hill.
  13. Ahh ... we have more in common than just our advancing years, a drop or two of good red and our unconditional love for the Dees. I was dating two lovelies in '64 (hello Maureen and Jane). Sadly, they disappeared from the radar in '65 much like the Dees. It was a sh!t of a year in many ways, but I'm thankful that mini-skirts arrived a couple of years later, the good music continued for another decade, and the Dees are once again on the march. Ahhh!
  14. ......... and then not having the decency to eyeball those who had been steadfast in their support for him, and tell them he wouldn't be returning from Sydney.
  15. When the Roy Orbison was cooler, and memories of the last Dees flag were still crystal clear!
  16. If that's what eventuates, I will be much happier about the arrangement. I had formed the view that it was a recipe for the top 6 or so clubs to become more dominant by attracting the best of the eligible players from the smaller fry.
  17. It's sure to make for a long thread on Demonland.
  18. [ I heard from an impeccable source that banana daiquiris are better ........ but I won't divulge names, so don't bother asking!
  19. I'd be very surprised if Maric is still on our list next year wise one.
  20. A game of poker with the clock as everyone's enemy. I love the cut and thrust of it!
  21. Yep. Win/win/win I reckon. We will probably use pick #52 on a speccy, Matty gets increased opportunities in the sun, and GC win his services (over GWS who would have nabbed him through the PSD). Thanks for the contribition Matty. An honest trier who gave his all when we needed it most.
  22. The Bombers now have Gumbleton and Hooker on the table together with pick # 19. Apparently still a long way off meeting GC requirements and the parties are now in mediation.
  23. We won't delist Bater. If he's not traded he stays. Joel Mac is a possibility for delisting though?
