WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
demoniac replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
Urban legend I'm afraid. -
Saints killed us on the outside much like they did against the Pies. Once you've used your pace to break through the zone defenders have no chance and will often be caught out with a mismatch.
-
300k minimum would be reasonably savage paycut. Estimates when he signed his 4 year deal was in the $500K a year ballpark. Just can't get on the field often enough. If he does his calf again this year does he even play on? A no brainer for club to get Bernard's extension done.

Is Tom McDonald tradable at the end of 2016?
demoniac replied to Adam The God's topic in Melbourne Demons
No. He has his weaknesses with disposal but his intercept marking and spoiling and athleticism are elite and hard to replace. How about we work on his decision making and disposal.- 176 replies

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 7
demoniac replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Watched Garland play in the Pies v Scorps VFL game and I can't quite understand his selection. His decision making and disposal was average. He will offer more run than Dunn which is significant but I am not sure I want to see Col matched up on Tom Lynch* or Peter Wright. Stretch adds some much needed outside run. Michie can win the ball but is one paced. Oliver is of course a smart clearance machine. *taken 1 pick before Lucas Cook -
Oliver for Brayshaw. Brayshaw has struggled at times this year though has still showed his ball handling class and composure on occasion. Perhaps a casualty of the more open and fast flowing style of play in the AFL this season given he is more footballer than athlete. I'd give him a few games at Casey to get his confidence and touch back and then bring him back in Harmes and Hunt stay in. We will need their speed and dash at Etihad and at every ground. And pleasingly both have some nice footy skills too. Both can take a mark and can extricate themselves from a contest. Harmes in particular usually delivers a nice well weighted kick inside 50.

I did not like Bugg making contact with Riewoldt when he was in the company of the Richmond trainers. Not acceptable. Rest of it fine by me.

Pies played like Neeld was their coach in the first quarter against us. Interesting to compare the impact that Bolton has had in his 1st season or Beveridge in his 2nd season to that of Buckley who is into his 5th season and Hardwick who is into his 7th season. For mine it should just be a question of when Buckley and Hardwick are sacked.
-
Michael Voss might be as good at the coaching caper as Bucks. Hinkley does not seem to be having the same impact without the assistance of Walsh or Richardson.

Tyson's 20 metre sprint time = 3.02 seconds. I am happy that we have depth in inside mid types. Most clubs now play some of these at half forward and half back. Its a relief that our relief centre square players are actually of AFL ball winning standard. And yes he does need to get rid of the ball more quickly. He does seem to be using his overhead marking more this year. For mine in talent he is behind N Jones, Viney, Oliver and Brayshaw but thats actually a massive positive for us. I watched 3 quarters of VFL last week and could not help thinking that Neal Bullen would be playing seniors at quite a few AFL clubs.
-
And here is his 20m sprint time - 2.97seconds - not turbo quick but not slow either. Jack Viney for comparison had a 2.95 in the AIS Academy. Picks of the draft: Jack Trengove November 12, 2009 FROM: Sturt, where he started in the junior ranks after moving from Naracoorte (and his original club, Kybolite) near the Victorian border in south-east South Australia. He played the last half of the season with the senior Sturt side, starring in the preliminary final, where he took a match-saving, last-gasp mark in defence. Trengove captained SA at the under-18 championships this year, where he was named in the All-Australian team. THE NUMBERS: Born September 2, 1991. 185 centimetres, 84 kilograms. THE LOWDOWN: Trengove has all the right physical attributes - height, endurance and speed. He is possibly the best marking midfielder in the draft - the way he floats across packs at times is reminiscent of James Hird. His skills are sound and, watching him play, the thing you notice is his constant involvement in what is going on. He gets to the right places and, when he's there, usually has some sort of say in what happens with the ball. He's a smart, brave, perceptive player with the skills to finish things off. RUNNING AND JUMPING: Trengove dispelled any doubt over his speed off the mark at last month's state testing session in Adelaide. He ran 2.97 seconds in the 20-metre sprint to complement his awesome endurance - he's a former state-level cross country runner. WHO NEEDS HIM? Like Scully, any club would love him. Many would choose him at No. 1 if the pick was theirs to use. But he'll become a Demon at No. 2. IRRELEVANT YET INTERESTING FACT: As good a runner as he is, Trengove still hasn't been able to out-race his older sister Jess. His other sister, Abbie, has rowed for South Australia. WHO WOULD PLAY HIM IN A MOVIE? Hugh Jackman. Good at everything. EMMA QUAYLE

Burgatron Phantom Draft on Trenners.. for mine if his foot is 100% he will make it back to AFL level... 2 - MELBOURNE - Jack TrengoveDOB: 02/09/91, Height: 185cm, Weight: 82kgRecruited from: Kybybolite/Sturt (SA)Draft range: 1-2Meet Jack TrengoveAlthough he will be taken at two, Trengove's exceptional performances in the SANFL senior finals showed he is equally deserving of the No.1 tag. In the preliminary final against Glenelg, he was best on ground with 29 disposals. Finals prevented Trengove from attending the NAB AFL Draft Camp, but he followed up at the South Australian state screening with an outstanding beep test: level 15.3. Likened to Collingwood great Nathan Buckley, Trengove has excellent speed, endurance and leadership. He can also play midfield, forward or back. He is no relation to Port Adelaide's Jackson Trengove.

Melbourne to ditch Alice Springs game from next year?
demoniac replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Alice is a great place to watch the footy as the sun sets on the West Macs. and there is something special to witness as fans pour into Alice form the surrounding communities though they all seem to go for Port. I've really enjoyed my trips to the games in both Darwin and Alice. The first Darwin game was played way too early, it was fairly brutal just watching from the stands but conditions are fairly mild in the middle of the year. -

Done the same to nephews and nieces. lost some to the Hawks and Bombers sadly. Still got 10 out of 20 to barrack for the Dees. Cost me quite a bit back in the day for memberships and jumpers! Not one to indulge in a professional preparation. Such a pure talent though much like Sean Charles. -
Port do go long into the F50 almost every time. On quite a few times they miss a team mate in space just inside the F50....
-
Can't wait for 'Kochy's' post game tweet... Port have quite a few 'Jack Dyer Good Ordinary Footballers' in their best 22.
-
The Toump was very composed in the melee but somewhat less so in the actual game.
-
Can't imagine many Camberwell Grammar students living in the Dees then metro zones. And Googling.. Demonwiki says he was recruited from Beaumaris/ Mentone Grammar...
-
Prymke was a class centre half back before his back injury. For some reason I always associate Andrew Moir with Roger Ellingworth who ended up at Hawthorn. Maybe they started together. Chris Heffernan is one of my least favourite Dees. never wanted to leave the Bombers and was insipid at the Dees. It was too much fun growing up in Camberwell in the 70s and 80s as a Dees fan!

It rates. Simples.
