  1. Good to see Tyson extend. Important for centre square depth. Good contested ball winner who needs to distribute better, particularly short passing.
  2. Reading between the lines Motlop is not a professional in his preparation. As an outside player would improve at a team like the Dees with better midfield than the Cats but the doubts over his professionalism and competitive nature are significant issues.
  3. Lobbe is one of the Port players signed on long term way over the odds deals a la Hartlett, How much would you pay to a backup ruck?
  4. Developing nicely for mine. Obviously will benefit from more pre seasons to build strength and endurance. Started from a fair way back after injury ended his 2015 season. Seems like a natural forward to me.
  5. Its a sign of how far we've come that we are writing off a first year key position type who has held down a spot in a team that made it to the VFL granny!
  6. They do seem to have a disciplined player payments structure. Be interesting to see where their top earner fits into the AFL's top earners. Might make a contrast to the Swans if their reported derisory offer to Tom Mitchell is true. Brad Hill will be a big out. Hawks fans might find a him a favoured scapegoat but they'll miss his running power. They may be able to get away with only losing 2016 and 2017 draft picks and Hill for O'Meara and Mitchell but I suspect they may try to offload a few of their Jack Dyer Good Ordinary Footballers like Schoenmakers, O'Brien, Will Langford or Hartung for overs. Proceed with caution!
  7. The knock on Hawks is that their best players bar Cyril are 30 plus and slowing down. They are suspect in the midfield, down the spine and in the ruck. Of course they will do their best to utilise free agency and destination club status but it is difficult to see them finding solutions to all of those issues in 1 off season and the likes of Mitchell (34) Burgoyne (34) Hodge (33), Gibson (33) Lewis (31) will be another year older. Apart from Burton their kids have not been particularly impressive.
  8. why anyone of those 4 over Egan?
  9. Plenty of AFL players decide to return to a club in their home state. If he decides to go we just need to make sure we get the best compensation possible. Both the Eagles and the Dockers will be desperate to recruit him. Josh FF Kennedy will be 30 next year. Freo are a key forward free zone. Competition is always a good thing. I am confident that our rebuild has reached a point where one player leaving will not be viewed as a catastrophe and where we are an attractive destination for players to come to. I am gonna tune out of the endless media waffling that will ensue until he makes a decision.
  10. A Dees fan as a kid. Came to the Dees after being forced out when the Bombers mucked up their salary cap planning. One of the more insipid recruits ever to pull on the jumper.
  11. I'd bring Grimes in for a farewell game to get him to 100 games. For mine the club owes him that after the crap he has had to put up with. Solid citizen and model professional but his decision making and disposal is average. I'd keep Trengove and see how a preseason following a full season of footy after 2 years out sets him up for 2017. Smart footballer, great overhead and good disposal. Its not as if we are short of players to delist.
  12. Happy to part with a second round pick for Hibberd. Turns 27 in January. Quick, reads the play well, good overhead and a long kick. If you search on youtube for Hibberd and BTV you can get some vision.
  13. This from the guy who in late 2007 chose to join the basketcase Blues for a mega contract instead of accepting a lower offer from the Hawks who would go on to win 3 flags over the course of his Carlton career. We are heading in the right direction for the first time in a long time. We still have one of the youngest lists in the AFL. We have accumulated perhaps the best pool of potentially elite self motivated talent this club has had in my lifetime. We have come an extraordinarily long way since Roos, Jackson et al took over. Next year I'll be disappointed if we don't play finals. This year I'm happy that that we have improved greatly again on the field and are in contention for the 8 with 2 games to go.
  14. Its a tough life being a Dee in Camberwell. Too many bloody Hawks fans. Love his passion. See him on the tram to the G on the odd occasion.
  15. Billy has earned $150,055 so far this year. Base - $76,905 (2nd year, 3rd round pick, 11 games in 1st year) Match Payments - $73,150 (14 matchs @ $5,225 - 2nd year, 3rd round pick, 11 games in 1st year) If he plays the last 3 games you can add another $15,675 ie $165,730.
  16. Who knew a 40 point interstate win could be so underwhelming!
  17. J Howe on -3 goals. 2 clangers from the kickin and a dropped mark. Therein lies the problem with Jeremy.
  18. Model professional. Good overhead. Courageous. Decision making and disposal are not AFL standard. Glad he got to 100 games for the club.
  19. to put it more simply the MFC was in such a shambolic state that we needed a bomb proof coach to hold the line whilst we rebuilt our list, our game plan and our commercial operations. $4.5 million very well spent.
  20. Well these days when I go to watch the Dees play we don't resemble 18 guys pulled out of local pubs 10 minutes before the game started. He inherited a basketcase club and team that won 2 games and finished with a percentage of 54.7. A 10 win season with a % of 100 in season 3 is significant progress. As for Prestia outside speed is our key priority for mine. Suspect there will be clubs more desperate for a quality young inside mid.
  21. Before fans sponsor a player there really should be full disclosure of their musical preferences...
  22. Great servant through some very hard years. He is courageous and good overhead but his decision making and disposal are average at best. In 2016 that makes it tough for Jack to play at AFL level.
  23. Three words for Worsfold. "Harden Up Coach" Clubs talk to opposing players managers all the time.
  24. They play games in Canberra because the ACT Government pays them to do so. To wit they sell games.
