In a salary cap league he'd be a back up tall defender at a few clubs...

Oskar Baker, Steven May, Joel Smith, Jake Melksham?

The problem with having too much of a contract in incentives is that it makes it hard to budget your salary cap.

The Pies do have 3 small/medium forwards best suited to leading out of the goal square in De Goey, Stephenson and Elliott. This would be a factor in Elliott's decision in 2 ways if he decides to leave. Firstly, where is he in the pecking order for rotation time deep forward? Secondly, how much of their cap do the Pies want to invest in that type of player? De Goey particularly, and Stephenson will both want substantial contracts. How many dollars does that leave for Elliott's contract? On another matter if we accepted rumours about what clubs are offering players no club'd be anywhere near under the salary cap. I doubt we have offered Elliott $750,000 a year.

Copeland trophy tomorrow night may stymie that.

May, Petty, Lever, Tommy Mac can go back. Oscar Mac as a backup had a poor 2019 but has played better in previous years.

Hibberd in contract and we'd have to attach a pick to get another club to take on final year of contract. Frost out of contract.

Hibberd will hopefully be depth only in 2020. He's just not as fast as he was in his prime.

You'd pick Frost over May and Lever? Can you get a list management job at another AFL club so the Dees can trade with you! May and Lever are much better footballers than Frost. May did turn up overweight but from day 1 of preseason worked hard on the track and adopted a better eating plan to strip the weight off. For mine his weight issue should have been picked up at time of trade so the changes made from day 1 of preseason started in October. A more gradual remediation may have also meant he avoided the groin and hammy injuries. May will start preseason in good nick which should set him up for a good season.

Frosty has the athletic profile of a running half back flanker but not the skill profile of a running half back flanker. Can run and carry but poor game sense/disposal means he does not capitalise on his metres gained. He has the height and build of key defender but not the skill set. Is not great one on one under a high ball, either spoiling or marking. What is that profile worth dollarwise within the cap?

    The 9th pre season's a charm!

Ryan Burton and a first round pick which if I recall correctly became Xavier Duursma.
  13. Elliot is a free agent so no need to trade the Weed.
  14. I am ok with Suns getting priority pick and other draft concessions. AFL took their eye off the ball, and now we have to pay the price. We need to fix ourselves.

Clarkson may not be stupid but he does make mistakes. Frosty would make a great forward in rugger, with his build and speed. Pros He is tall, super quick and durable. Cons His marking, kicking and positioning are inconsistent. He has yet to show that he can play as a genuine key defender. How much of salary cap do we pay?
  16. In the NBA a team can trade a contracted player to a destination of the team's choice. If we pick up Tomlinson with intention of trading him next year he would have to agree to the trade.
  17. Are there any 'elite' outsiders available? We are desperate for elite running power on wing and flanks. Tomlinson does not have to be a superstar he just has to have the attributes to play his role. His status as an unrestricted free agent means we don't have to give up any assets. Salary cap wise there is no talk that current admin is overpaying players as rumoured in past. Langdon and Tomlinson fill a pretty obvious need. Baker is promising. Who knows we might not play inside mids on the wing in 2020. Imagine that!

Petracca will be boosted by actually playing running half back flankers and wingers who he can kick to in space when he wins the ball. His passing can be lethal.

Turns 31 in December so Hawthorn would project he is not in their next flag team. Isaac has played his best footy but still played to a reasonable standard this season. From a Dees perpsective he fits an obvious need but given likely to get only 1 or 2 good seasons Hawks will likely want more than he is worth.

Dees players gathered at Max's bar on the Sunday night according to my reliable Camberwell Market Dee's source.
  22. Break even figure is a different to figure budgeted for home game attendance. Unless we were very conservative with our home game attendance forecasts the drop off in attendances will see a shortfall in actual revenue to forecast revenue.
  23. I thought I'd got the starting time wrong and arrived way early to my reserved seat in the Tridents on L2 of Southern Stand for the Tiges game. I'd arrived 30 minutes before the first bounce. I suspect that attendances at home games were significantly under budget forecasts, particularly for the run of home games against the Tigers, Pies and Swans, and we're going to make a reasonably significant loss. I could be wrong.
  24. Lewis will seemingly head to media. Probably more lucrative and less time consuming than starting out as an assistant coach. Quite like his media work, more incisive than most retired players turned commentators. The rug is a tad distracting.
  25. The Ooze chastising a player for a lack of defensive pressure may even satisfy Alannis' pedantry! Clarkson is the best coach of the modern era so he has been learning from the best at tactical innovation and getting players to understand and implement that tactical innovation.
