  1. FWIW I don't think we've worked particularly hard so far tonight. They might tire and if they do, we could well finish over the top of them.
  2. There is some reason to fear for North's long term future but it's drawing a long bow to suggest that they are in for a poor season on the strength or otherwise of their performance in a group that contained two preliminary finalists from last year. In fact, Geelong looked more like the Geelong of 2 - 3 years ago minus G. Ablett who they will miss greatly but they seem to have a renewed vitality and sense of purpose which should see them in the top four again. The Bulldogs also showed they're not going backwards and seem to have covered their losses from last year with the return to fitness of some of their injured brigade, improvement of their youngsters (eg Easton Wood), and the inclusion of some handy new players. On top of that nobody should take the results from round 1 of the NAB seriously anyway.
  3. Surely not? VFL club Casey Scorpions keen to sign Brendan Fevola Fevola comes from the Casey area.
  4. Apparently, Hinch reckons Nixon might fulfill a role in the Aussie World Cup team in India - SPIN RICKY SPIN. Pretty hard-hitting but I suppose both Nixon and Hinch would say they're both doing their jobs. Nobody comes out of this smelling of roses. It's time for government and the law to step in and deal with the minor at the centre of this storm to protect her from herself and give her some chance in life.
  5. GWS standing for Greater Western Soreknee
  6. Demon Revival's guests were a highlight. Neville Jetta Senior demonstrated where Neville Junior gets his skills from. Not bad for a 52 year old - demonstrated natural ability to read the play, positioning and second efforts. We gave him the play of the day award. Rodney was cool too and we wish him all the best at the Zebras. I've heard Mrs. Jetta signing her own compositions at earlier club functions. I reckon she's the secret to the family's success - a very smart lady who is also helping nephew Kelvin Lawrence overcome his homesickness by hosting him at their home. Charlsey was well deserving of his Vin Cattogio award. I reckon he's in for a good season with the Ammos (I think that's where he plays). I'm sure all the blokes enjoyed the day - even DR who pinged a hammy. Enjoyment of the game is the main thing. Well done to the umpires. Not easy to umpire a game when both teams are wearing the same colours. At least they weren't wearing the red and blue. To top the day off we were able to catch Aussie Cricketer Andrew McDonald (who plays premier cricket with the Demons) jogging a few laps during a break in the Shield Game over the road. Well done again to Rollo for putting it all together so thoroughly as usual. Not a bad effort from new coach Pringle who now stands behind Dean Bailey and yours truly among the great Demon coaches in living memory.
  7. You're right. The Tom Scully business is becoming a bit of a yawn. Perhaps it really has been demystified or maybe there was nothing in it from the very start. See the comments in this thread - FUTURE FUND FUNCTION And on that note we bid this subject farewell unless there is good reason for it to be revived.
  8. Here's the link to a thread by mallee bull on the FUTURE FUND FUNCTION And on that note I hate to be a spoil sport but this thread has really run it's course. Time to resume normal transmission and close this subject down unless and until something new arises.
  9. Who knows for a fact that GWS has made any offer for Tom Scully, let alone one for a contract term of six years at $1m a year? We don't really know and it's plausible that the rumours emanated from others - perhaps his management wanting to ramp up his price or simply from mischievous rumourmongers. If that's the case then the whole Scully thing has nothing to do at all with Sheedy's strategy, nor is GWS playing hard ball over him. Sheedy's strategy is partly to spruik for GWS and football in that region and partly to coach a fledgling football team. He's very good in the former role and at play acting the fool because controversial left of centre comments and behaviour will always attract attention and keep him and his club in the media forefront (even in Sydney) and that's what he wants. So he'll play up the Scully and Bartel angles and hint about taking one of the Magpie trio because he knows it's going to make the news. This doesn't mean that Scully to GWS is a done deal or anything like it. Money might become a factor later on but in the interim, it's Sheedy's other role that might play a part in deciding his future. In that regard, I think Sheedy has had his day as a coach and he's a long way behind the modern young coaches of today. This is what Essendon people have been telling me for some time i.e that the club went backwards on the field in his last few years because he wasn't keeping up with the trends of modern day football. From what I've seen and what I've been told, the situation is no better in 2011 than it was in 2007. Back then I wanted the club to get Sheedy because I thought he would be great at performing both of the above functions as a coach at a moribund club. I soon learned otherwise and now believe he would have been a monumental flop at Melbourne. For that we can thank Paul Gardner and those at the club who recruited Dean Bailey. Sheedy's been great for football over the years. I have my doubts about how he's going to perform at GWS. I suspect it'll be a long time before that franchise succeeds
  10. The lowest mongrel act in football since some loser got drunk on Brownlow night a couple of years ago.
  11. Typical Demonology stunt. It's got T.G.R's fingerprints all over it. I bet they've had Terry Wallet secretly coach them.
  12. What's this? An Andrew Demetriou ruling?
  13. Thanks. I stand corrected. How could that not have taken mark of the year?
  14. So I still bring the Cup even though it's US v US & THEM?
  15. A certainty for inclusion on the GIANTOLOGY site in coming days.
  16. Gotcha!
  17. You mean they all eat felafel?
  18. Perfect time to sack Fevola.
  19. I've decided to wag school on Friday morning.
  20. It's only the NAB Cup and nobody really cares who we play. Be grateful that for the first time in four long years, we are privileged enough to be permitted by the AFL to play a NAB Cup game in Melbourne.
  21. Given Essendon has home ground advantage in the next game for the second time in a row, I assume that, for the sake of fairness, Melbourne will wear its traditional strip while Essendon will wear that "away" strip? BTW, where's the "white" on that "away" strip?
  22. I can report that ADC is now a correspondent for the newest AFL club supporter website GIANTOLOGY. See the site's first article - NO FELAFEL FOR TOM SCULLY
  23. Having nothing much better to do on a Thursday evening I decided to revisit last Friday night's games while the better half was watching the Biggest Loser upstairs. The thing I noticed the second time around was how good an acquisition Joel Macdonald has been during his short time at the club. Not much has been said of him in the past week while everybody has been raving about Liam Jurrah, Jack Watts, Jack Grimes, Colin Garland etc. but Joel Mac's contribution was equally important. I know that keeping you know who is a major objective of the club but, once again, a view of what many would regard as the opener of such an inconsequential pre season competition proves that there's a lot more to a football club than one talented youngster.
  24. Three years down the track and exactly half the side from that day have gone. The rebuild continues.
  25. The AFL will do what the AFL wants to do but in the end, the decision will rest with Tom Scully and I'm sure won't be guided by money alone. We've built up a good list, we're a good club now and we have a lot of advantages over GWS. I'd like to think we can make Tom happy and keep him. The article by Phelan is poor journalism but good writing on the AFL site hasn't been its forte since that fellow Matt Burgan left them. Could somebody please remind me who his wagon is hitched to these days? Now, let's move on.
